Wei was brought to a secluded monastery in the Wall of Heaven by his brother as a child, where they trained in martial arts. As a youth, Wei had trouble mastering the use of Ki, for he mistook his burgeoning sorcerous powers for Ki energy, rendering all instruction in the harnessing of Ki energy useless to him. Unfortunately, that did not stop the masters from pressing him, and frustration led to a mild delinquency that often landed him locked up in the monastery's library so that he might meditate amongst the manuals under the watchful eye of the Shikigami librarians.
During his time in the library, Wei discovered several books on distant lands and foreign cultures that fascinated him, and as he continued to pore over them over the years, wanderlust crept into his heart. He would sometimes even misbehave on purpose so he could spend more time alone in the library to read. Wei's brother would sometimes also grumble about their relatives, the Kaijitsus, and how they betrayed their roots for profit in a foreign land. Unbeknown to Wei's brother, however, the tales did little more than fuel Wei's desire to see this 'Golarion', and the 'Varisia' that his relatives had gone to.
Not long after his 15th birthday, Wei's desire to see new lands and his frustrations with the monastery led him to leave the monastery for the nearby city of Goka, taking with him but a few coppers, his martial arts manual and some meagre provisions for the road. Whilst in Goka, Wei chanced upon a roving Varisian caravan that was returning to Varisia. An off-hand mention of the Kaijitsus during a casual conversation led to Wei discover where he could find his relatives, and, with his few coppers running scarce, Wei decided to join the Varisians on their voyage home.
Wei eventually found his way to Sandpoint, where he tracked down his cousin Ameiko Kaijitsu and sought to travel Golarion with her. To his surprise, Ameiko took to him almost immediately, treating him as if he were kin, although he sometimes felt as if she was treating him as a replacement for someone else, for she would sometimes accidentally call him by the name of 'Tsu' before quickly correcting herself. Wei was also advised to stay away from Ameiko's father, Lonjiku Kaijitsu, who "doesn't like half-elves", and the perceptive half-elf soon surmised that this too had something to do with the mysterious 'Tsu'. However, after his first attempt to ask Ameiko about 'Tsu' sent Ameiko into a bout of depression for almost 3 months, Wei decided it was best to just let the past be.
Wei also found disappointment in the fact that whilst Ameiko had once been an adventurer, she had ceased travelling a short while ago. Instead, Ameiko set Wei to work about her inn and started teaching him the ways of commerce. Wei soon found that he had a talent for reading people and perceiving their true intentions, making him invaluable to Ameiko as she negotiated deals with some of her more difficult business contacts.
Although Wei was able to see much of Varisia as Ameiko's business assistant, his conversations with Ameiko's more exotic contacts about foreign cultures and distant lands has kept his wanderlust alive, and he still dreams of someday embarking on some grand adventure that will take him to some of the more exotic locations in Varisia. To that end, he still regularly practices his martial techniques, hoping that they will one day prove useful.
