Wade will catch up (and work a bit overtime to have some free time for this investigation) on his other cases, and the general precinct things - paperwork and helping the colleagues.

I'll Give Attention to my City Detective theme.

Status:

Does anyone have any idea what to do next?

Status:

"Sure, I'll ask around the precinct. Rumors spread fast, and there certainly will be rumors."

Status:

"I'd love that to be a coincidence." Sighs Wade, looking at a fried chicken leg he's been pecking with not much appetite. "But it just can't be it. It's all connected somehow."

He looks at the photos of the body they took at the crime scene. "This gets worse with every hour."

Investigate: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 4) + 1 = 10 +An eye for details
Anything obviously unusual with the body?

Status:

Wade quickly leaves the crime scene the way they came, making sure he isn't being followed. After some time and distance, he sheds the face he took for this meeting, and gets back to their base of operation.

Status:

All right. Let's say no.

"Actually it's out of our jurisdiction." Wade takes out his phone and quickly takes a few pictures of the crime scene. "So we better get out of here and fast, or there's going to be some tedious paperwork."

Status:

Default, Is it in my precinct's jurisdiction?

Status:

Wade rushes down the alley - yelling and crawling on the ground is rarely a good thing. "What happened?"

Status:

Wade will stay slightly behind Donovan with changed appearance - no need to spook the guy by the infamous Wade's face.

Status:

Wade makes a note to follow the lead on the Irish man and on this green spark.

"I'll join as well. After all, I have some experience with those kind of places and individuals."

"Donovan, you're just in time with this donation." Chuckles Wade. "I'm without my gun for some time, so those will come in handy. Of course, I'll have to run a few checks on them after all this."

Status:

Let's see what we have on DNA and witness reports.

Status:

"Sorry Sinclair." Wade whispers back, and tells some of the truth. "The last dead guy, Mark? I met him one time. He was worried about his father. Besides you don't want it, or am I wrong?"

Status:

Wade hesitates before taking his favorite gun out and unloading it.
"Tonight's your night to show off Chief." He grins "That's one hell of a gun."

Status:

"Shouldn't be too hard. I'll head out to the station."

All right, Wade wants to be assigned to this case, check if police has anything on Silas and Wizard, read reports on the drug trade in the Mark's neighborhood, and check with Sinclair on those other similar deaths.

Convince the chief to be assigned on the case: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 1) + 1 = 8 +Beguiling voice
I assume chief will want something in return.

Investigate Silas and Wizard and drug trade: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 2 = 6 +Criminal law, +An eye for details
That's a fail.

Not sure what to roll to check with Sinclair. Convince? Investigate? Both?

Status:

"Don't know that, I'm afraid. Worked for Silas, but that's most likely not his real name."

Status:

"According to our new... source, Mark was a dealer. I'm not sure if it's connected with this supernatural death, but it is a lead we should follow. And we know his supplier - someone called Wizard. I'll check with our databases if there's any info on the guy."

Status:

I won't be able to post in the next few day, most probably until the 29th (I have thesis defense soon). Feel free to bot me.

Status:

Wade rubs his temples. That's going to be a major headache.
"Have a list of his clients? Or competitors. An approximate one will do."

Status:

"A drug dealer? You have proof? Perhaps something you took from his locker?"

Status:

"Hmph. Homicide. Mark Sapataro was killed." Wade's eyes narrowed. "You were rummaging through his locker. You do know it doesn't look, do you? So tell me everything you know."

Status:

Wade thinks it over for a moment and grudgingly nods. "I'm willing to let it slide if you tell me everything."

That's a good question, hm. Let's say he's unbribable and won't stop until the criminal is behind bars he won't stop. He put a lot of people in prison. Especially since he discovered his Mythos.

Status:

Wade, who wanted to take out his pistol and shoot the guy, stops and glances at Zenna and back at Silas.

Status:

Wade growls and hits Silas in the stomach. "You are now under arrest." Wade keeps the man pinned down and searches him carefully.

"I can guess it's not your first crime, so I'm sure we'll find something to add to resisting arrest and breaking into other person's locker. So don't make it worse for yourself and answer who do you work for."

Convince: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 3 = 5 +Criminal law, +Interrogation techniques, +An eye for details

Ugh. I guess Silas has connections.

Status:

"Police! Stop now!"

Wade charges after the man, flinging the backdoor open with his shoulder. He quickly notices the running man and starts the pursuit, trying to knock down and immobilize him.

Go Toe to Toe: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11 So, I manage to achieve my goal, and I give him a status Pinned Down-1.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Status:

"Thanks." Wade catches the keys and heads out to the lockers and nods to Zenna. "Then while I see if there's anything useful in Mark's locker, you go talk with this Silas."

Status:

"I see. I assume there are locker rooms here? Can we look at Mark's locker?"

Status:

Wade shakes his head and opens his notepad. "Did Mark Sapataro had any enemies? Girlfriend? Friends we can talk with? Have you seen or heard anything unusual?"

Investigate: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 6) + 1 = 10 +Interrogation techniques

1 clue. Has there been any suspicious new faces near Mark?

Status:

"No, we're not. We'd like to speak to you about Mark Sapataro. Is there someplace we can speak privately?"

Status:

Just as Wade wants to say his name and flash a badge, he stops, as Zenna goes straight to the point.

Status:

Wade smile and looks around. "See, I'm in town for a few days, and I hear my old friend runs a restaurant and haven't told me. So I decided to see the place myself and reminisce about our good old university days."

It's a long-shot, but let's hope the owner is about my age.

Convince?: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 6) + 1 = 9 +Beguiling voice

Status:

When everyone gathers at their base of operations, Wade retells them about his findings.

"So, what we have on our hands, is an unsub capable of ripping the hearts out without breaking the ribcage. This is a highly disturbing turn of event. That was about the murder."

"Zenna also found out that the victim worked at Red John's Kitchen, and that his father didn't want him there." Wade nods to Zenna. "We were late yesterday and the place was closed, so I'd like to visit it today."

"That is all from me."

Status:

I'm okay with you providing an answer. That's the point of the mystery, no?

Status:

"Great. That's exactly what we need - someone who can rip people's heart out without anybody's noticing." Wade shakes his head and lets out a heavy and sigh. "I bet they'll drop this case on my desk. If that's the case, there's going to be a lot of maneuvering."

He nods to Zenna, gestures towards Red John's Kitchen and stars walking.
"Thanks for the call, Steinman. I have to go now, but I'll keep in touch in case I find anything interesting."

Status:

It takes Wade a couple of seconds to process what he just heard.
"Steinman, what do you mean ripped out? Not cut out? What the hell can even do that?"

He tries not to let Zenna out of sight while talking on the phone, which might de difficult, given her abilities.

Status:

"Sure, I don't mind. You can be a cadet," agrees Wade. "And keep close just in case."

Status:

All right.

"It could've been poison, although I doubt it. The coroner will give me a call as soon as she's done with the autopsy - we'll know more then."

Wade nods when Donovan finishes. "Good idea. I'll take a walk around the neighborhood, see if anyone saw anything useful."

Status:

Wade examines the crime scene for anything suspicious and out of place.

Investigation: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 5) + 2 = 11 +An eye for details. +Psychometry

Is there any evidence that could help us identify the suspect?
Is there any evidence that suggest supernatural involvement?

Status:

Wade receives the message as he gets close to the bookstore. Well, that's not good.

He flashes his badge in the crowd, plowing his way through to the storefront. And sees Mark. Shit.

"Detective Walton," he shows the badge to the police officer keeping the crowd away. "What happened here?" He asks already inside the police tape.

Status:

"I'll head to the station then." Wade grabs his coat and sighs as it is still still damp from the rain. "Leighton, you coming?"

Status:

"Let's try the abandoned building first," nods Wade. "And I'll see if there's anything in the police files, might be something useful there."

Status:

Wade pulls out his notebook and starts taking notes. "Who are your neighbors?"

Status:

A rusty door squeaks open and a tall man in a drenched coat enters inside. He has short black hair desperately in need of a haircut, blue eyes and goatee. He is dressed in a suit and an observant person might notice a bit of a lump on his left side, where he carries his weapon.

Wade quickly hangs it onto the shabby rack and shakes down his head, spattering everything near him with drops of water.

"Luke, Zenna, I see you're already here. And with some new furniture, great. This place is long overdue for some decoration."

Status:

In the first seasons too, if I remember correctly.

Status:

All right, voting.

WHERE DO YOU MEET, WORK, REST, OR PREPARE FOR ACTION?
1. An abandoned subway platform that has exits up to a bar
2. Basement of the police station
3. A warehouse by the docks

HOW DO YOU HELP, ASSIST, OR SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER?
1. Watch each other's back
2. favor for a favor
3. teamwork makes the dream work

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED TO DO WELL TOGETHER?
1. blow off steam
2. tailing and eavesdropping
3. putting together clues

WHAT PLACES OR SITUATIONS DO YOU FIND TOUGH TO HANDLE?
1. No in with criminals
2. have to skirt around police
3. broad daylight

Status:

I like the idea of Special Investigations like in Dresden Files - Wade might have ended up there because he busted the "wrong" person so the higher-ups sent him there as a "promotion".

Another idea for a place to meet:
Has anyone seen Sleepy Hollow? The TV series, not the movie. They use half-abandoned part of the police building, where the police keeps archived documents and historical records. It also has all sorts of secret tunnels and compartments. Our department might have such part.

Tough to handle situations - definitely the criminals (we have to cops and Wade specifically is infamous in those circles) and the police (we'll have to evade questions, forge reports, and other fun stuff).

Assisting each other - favor for a favor sounds interesting. After all, we're not exactly altruists. While we do pursue mostly the same goals (fighting crime police can't handle, keeping our identities secret, etc.), we do have our own stuff to worry about.

Status:

Huh. I did misunderstood. Masked Vigilantes it is! Let's bring some justice to this City.

As for Luke's connections to Zenna: how about going from mundane angle? Luke is a brain surgeon/neuroscientist and Zenna is a novelist. Maybe she needed a consultation about some brain things? And something went wrong/good/weird, and Luke figured her out?

Status:

It was mentioned in the recruitment that the City is more of a modern kind, than anything else.

The masked vigilante sounds intriguing, considering we have two policemen in our ranks. And The Event could be some kind of crime that touched everyone - Wade and Leighton were the detectives on the case, Zenna snooped around for an inspiration, Luke was stealing something, Fredrick - I'm not sure here and Vrog's character (Donovan, right?) was the main suspect. That's when everyone clicked.

Status:

I'm fine with discord.

Status:

Updated the alias with themes and tags.

As for the crew, personally, I'm leaning towards some king of strange detective agency. Or the group of vigilantes. How does that sound?

Status:

I have the book. Will do the tags when come home.
