Sorry for the wait, normally I have a huge excess of time over holidays, but this time I barely had any!

I'd rather blow PP than gold, so with this chronicle's rewards Vosk can throw the 8pp in for the Raise Dead and has 1PP leftover. Obviously he makes a big show of how generous he is and may or may not throws some sort of soiree to commemorate the occasion.

Vosk flies up to the control platform. The wizard sees many dials and switches, and immediately recognises that firing the weapon will require two dials to be turned simultaneously - and one is at each end of the control platform. It will take two people to fire, or one person with very long arms. Reach 10 would do it. With finesse, it should be possible to compensate for some of the damage that has been caused to the device. An INT check or a UMD check can be made by a PC operating the console when it is fired. But it won't fire without four prisms being loaded first.

I'll repeat some of this in Discussion for ease of reference.

My bad, I just posted actions based upon what was said earlier (shown above) about activating the device. However I apparently did not reference the OOC post mentioned that gave the extra details. This now creates an action economy quandary though. If Dexter attempts to Arm the weapon (splitting a Standard this round and next) we can have two PC’s fire it right after he acts next turn. But if we wait for Vosk to do it next turn, we won’t be able to fire it until the round After, but will have the slightly higher Modifier from him to negate the damage to the weapon. Thoughts?

With the VC essentially one round from getting killed by that Demon, I think we have no choice but to attempt to arm the weapon this round!

Vosk gulps hard, turns his back on the Demon and pulls out a scroll. Charging it with arcane energy, it instantly vaporizes and rapidly fills the room with a thick fog.

"Trajan is right, that Shemhazian Demon's gaze will freeze you to the soul, avert your eyes!" Vosk adds as he flies across the room to his allies on the stairs. He prepares to cast a spell once one of his allies have collected Doran's prisms.

Once Dexter retrieves Doran's prisms, he'll Dimension Door Hskoro, Dexter and himself back to the control deck. Figure they'll then have the highest charge prisms, so we should use those first.

Relevant Knowledge Results:

The gigantic fiend is indeed a Shemhazian demon. More physically powerful than almost any other demon, Shemhazians take great delight in mutilating and devouring their victims.

The Shemhazian is a terrifyingly powerful melee combatant, attacking with claws, pincers, bite and tail. But as if that weren't enough its bite drains Strength, and its gaze causes temporary paralysis (and demons and other evil creatures are immune).

Like all greater demons, the Shemhazian resists attacks from weapons save for those that are both Cold Iron forged and holy.

With nothing blocking the stairs (just AoO's), he could pop an Obscuring Mist too. There isn't a lot that can see through those! Also, GM, I just realized I never rolled knowledge on the big Demon. Is it ok if I make it my first roll it in gameplay on my next turn? I ask because I normally order rolls in order of appearance in the GM's post.

I know you shouldn't say anything GM, but MAN do I hope the INT and UMD checks have different DC's!

EDIT: As far as getting the remaining Prisms to the controls, next turn Vosk can fly over to the others and Dimension Door two others and himself back to the control panel. Ideally, the two people brought over have the highest charged prisms, not counting Trajan's.

Vosk gives himself the power of flight and heads off after his finest companion, even as his body tears from the Demon's magic. "That's an innate form of magic, there's likely more where that came from! Keep it busier Crusaders before we're all ground meat!"

"Cut them down and we have a chance to get that weapon to work!" he cries, just as the Demon lays waste to Doran. Gritting his teeth, he calls out to his allies across the room. "The Prisms! Gather his prisms!" Damn it! We'll all be like him if we don't focus, we can mourn his loss later!

Ready to cast Fly on Salazar since the rest of the frontline seems to be taking the stairs. Dexter, if you'd rather him stick with you, Vosk will cast it on himself and start flying upwards instead.

With his vast array of skills, I would like Vosk to be one of the fliers so there might be a PC with the requisite skills/knowledges to get the weapon operational.

That makes sense to me! Anyone dying to join the fray up top vs going around/taking shots at the big guy?

Moving in what must be a remarkably slow walk to the rest of the party, he heads across the main level towards the control platform. "An acutely violent pair of Abrikandilu demons! Take care for their bites and show them a mirror if you can!"

Since Vosk won initiative, GM, are you cool with the inclusion of Doran? Vosk only has 7 possible targets for Haste, so he will omit himself in favor of the rest of the party. He wants to cast Fly next turn anyways :) GM, for the whole mirror thing, how would it work if Vosk used Silent Image to replicate one of them? Or Instant Portrait? Don't have a mirror, so trying to get creative.

Being locked into the first three rounds due to Lesser Restoration, I think it makes sense for Vosk to identify the robe (3 rounds also) and then hustle to the next room.

I think we have a bad situation on our hands, but I personally think the Lesser Restoration is worth the time to continue casting. If that's the course of action we choose, Vosk will spend those rounds getting after that robe. If not, he will follow everyone into the other room. GM, do those leather suits have any spell failure chance?

You can do this, but bear in mind that Vanish has range=touch so your action will only go off if the shade attacks someone adjacent to you. Let me know if you want to do that or just vanish Doran.

Move, swift to draw wand, ready spell. Can I ready an action to cast Vanish from the wand vs the target of the shade's attack? If not, Vosk will just cast the spell on Doran to keep him safe from further brain drain.

Since Dexter and Salazar already declared they were staying, party was split anyways so Vosk investigated the corpse. He will dip out next round. With nothing great to do, he is going to try talking to it and see what happens.

Vosk takes the greatsword in his hands. His bulky frame would likely take the weight well, but alas, he has spent many years emptying taverns of their stocks, not bucking bales of hay. He does his best to raise the weapon above his head. "Have at thee! Haha! Is that all it takes to be one of you? Now I can do it all!"

Between chuckles to himself, he points out the enchanted munitions. "If anyone has a crossbow or pistol, these will certainly serve them well!" Unless relieved of his new sword, he lets the blade rest on his shoulder and keeps a hand on the grip.

Feeling Salazar's snout firmly boop his shin, he takes one final bite of the half in his right hand and offers it down. Crumbs fly.

"Dexter, you really should feed this fellow more. Look at his hips! I can see his pelvis poke out a bit. As a beast of war, he needs more protection!" Heavens know such protection has saved me a few times over!

Fair enough, I appreciate your honesty! I won't pretend to be an expert, but defense is usually better earlier than later. The "deal" with Magic Circles is that they move with the target, which is great for the target, but less great for anybody else who wants to benefit from the spell. Looking at the bonuses to defensive stats the melee characters already have, Trajan benefits the least from the spell (only +1 to his already great saves vs Evil stuff), and Hskoro/Doran basically tie for most benefit (AC and Saves go up vs Evil stuff). Vosk will use one of his scrolls on Hskoro (making assumptions based on the build, he will likely be moving least, therefore easiest for people to pile into the effect if desired) for now and if we think another would be beneficial, we can use another then.

Extended Heroism (140min) on Trajan (I've got invisibility stuff for Doran) and then Mage Armor (7hrs), Extended Heightened Awareness, Mirror Image (14min), Heightened Awareness (70min), and Extended See Invisibility (140min) for Vosk. Statline should reflect this now. Vosk can stand wherever, but will default to the back of the line.
