Volkar frowned. None of his spells was particularly useful with Thorek engaged in melee, and the slug was surprisingly agile for a creature of such size. Instead, he knelt and shook Tomas to try and wake him. "Tomas, wake up. We need you. Come on."

Volkar decided to try and give the thing a taste of its own medicine. He drew forth a ball of ectoplasm and hurled it at the slug, trying to hinder it's attacks on Thorek.

Using entangling ectoplasm. DC 15 Reflex save by the slug, or else its entangled, as per a tanglefoot bag.

Yes, let's stick to 1E. We started the campaign this way, and we should continue with it this way. While I am not averse to trying a 2E campaign, switching in the middle would be inconvenient - especially since my Sorcerer bloodline hasn't been published yet.

Volkar groaned as he was engulfed in sticky webbing. However, it was highly similar to his ectoplamic balls, so perhaps he could free himself easily.

Slinking out of the webbing, he moved himself clear of the slug's firing line to give Thorek the chance to move in and fight it.

With the positioning of the slug and the drow, Volkar decided to take a risk. He took a step forward, clearing Rau and Thorek from his line of fire, and then cast a spell, bringing his hands together to send a cone of flame forward, enveloping the slug and the drow.

Volkar easily sees through the illusion covering the hole in the floor. He responds to Thorek, "That or these upper chambers are just for an show, and the creature actually lives down there. The other one lived underground, as well."

Seeing Tomas looking around blankly, Volkar said, "Look in that corner there - carefully. There is an illusion covering it."

Tomas can attempt another Will save with a +4 bonus since I pointed out the illusion.

Bending down to study the circle, Volkar snorts and shakes his head. "Don't worry about whether or not you step into this circle. It's fake - complex enough to fool those who haven't studied magic, but easily recognizable as fake to those who have. The creature likely uses it to help fuel the mystery of its great power by "magically" appearing in it. The creature may be able to turn invisible. We should be cautious." Volkar stood, and motioned Thorek to take the lead in the tunnels.

Volkar turns from the window. "As long as we don't talk too loudly, the guard they left shouldn't be able to hear us. We know where the creature is now. Should we sneak out of here and attempt to take it out?"

Volkar itches to open the other door leading deeper into the building, but since the rather irate gentleman had said water would be brought to them, he didn't want to be in the middle of investigating when they came back. Instead, he looked out the window to see how close the one who was being left was, and if they could talk quietly among themselves without him listening.

Do the windows have glass or anything, or are they just holes with bars over them? How close is the brother standing to either the window or the door?

Turning to the villagers, Volkar smiles and says, "Hello, and well met. We were traveling in the direction of Fort Justice, but we seem to have gotten a little turned around. We saw the smoke from your fire, and thought you might be able to point us in the right direction."
