Botting and background

Vildran Aistellmar does not quite look like most elves. Certainly his manner is deliberate, sharp, and precise. Though when he speaks he is somewhat more understated than most. He’s also suspicious of others’ “fun,” and has a hard time of that when it comes so easily to others. In fact he can be aloof at times and his focus is hard to break.
He is used to being anyone’s burden. The problem wasn’t just being an orphan. The problem was not quite looking like other elves. It wasn’t unusual for someone to ask for his ancestry, even being raised amongst elves in Kyonin. Thankfully he showed enough talent to be shipped off to the Arcanamirium.

He found two subjects of interest at the Arcanamirium: the ancient Thassilonian rune magic and the possible heritages of elves and the strange places that may have come from. He wondered… The more he tried to discuss his origin with professors, the more afraid they seemed about the possible answer.

After a time, they assigned him to take time away from the lecture halls and take up as Scholar in Residency abroad, to focus on the Runelords and rune magic in the lands they had most recently appeared.

Vildran has found Sandpoint to be a pleasant place to disappear this past year. He trades muddling in the back of classrooms with long hikes in the countryside around town, tentative approaches of the Old Light, and short interviews with locals who knew the great heroes to any degree. He doesn’t expect to simply stumble upon ancient magic ruins suddenly, but he also doesn’t expect to be let back to the proper school any time soon. Instead of troubling colleagues who are disturbed by his suggestions that he might be descended from (or partly?) lashunta, he resides in a town where some express concern that he’s going to disturb yet another long-resting curse or trouble beyond the Runelords. While he has that in common with the Runewatchers, they’ve yet to fully accept him.

PCs:
* San: Vildran feels a connection to San as both an elf and a runelord scholar. With the possibility that he’s not really an elf, Vildran looks to other trustworthy elves for validation. As a runelord scholar not yet accepted by the Runewatchers, Vildran commiserates with fellow enthusiast outsiders. In fact Vildran and San trade notes on artifact study and/or study arcana together often.
* Tao: He is aware of her but is suspicious of fortunes and fates. Perhaps that’s his intellectual side, or perhaps he’s afraid of a concrete influence imposing some measure of his purpose of existence.
* Autumn: ???
* Sidone, Bastiano: Initially Vildran does not have substantial interactions with these two troublemakers. He has heard of them offhand, and perhaps even been amused by an account of them by some disgruntled authority figure.

* Other PCs: Vildran is aware that his ancestry mystery might just be a novelty or entertaining curiosity.
