About Victor Cassius

Appearance:
Victor is a tall and thin man, standing at just under 6ft in height but with a wiry frame. He appears to be of mixed descent, with mostly Varisian traits but a few characteristics of Tian appearance. His eyes are a deep inviting emerald green and a mop of tousled chocolate brown hair sits on top of his head kept in check by a leather hat.

His clothes show the splendor and opulence of his station, an intricate red vest worn over a fluffy white undergarment with long brown pants and red boots, all made of fine silks, cotton, and oiled leather dyed rich shades of red and gold and white, they appear to be completely untouched by the ravages of the current situation.

On his back he carries a backpack made of leather oiled to a deep rich brown to match his outfit. And around his waist is a particularly fine sash of red silk embroidered with intricate golden vine patterns.

Special Abilities
------------------------------
Skilled (Ex): Some kitsune focus on diversifying their skill set in order to better blend in with their human peers. They gain an additional skill rank at 1st level and one additional skill rank whenever they gain a level.

Change Shape (Su): A kitsune can assume the appearance of a specific single human form of the same sex. The kitsune always takes this specific form when she uses this ability. A kitsune in human form cannot use her bite attack, but gains a +10 racial bonus on Disguise checks made to appear human. Changing shape is a standard action. This ability otherwise functions as alter self, except that the kitsune does not adjust her ability scores and can remain in this form indefinitely.

Natural Weapons (Ex): In her natural form, a kitsune has a bite attack that deals 1d4 points of damage.

Low-Light Vision: Kitsune can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.

Blade Skill (Mind Blade Finesse): The benefits of the Weapon Finesse feat apply to the mind blade even when it is in forms that cannot normally be the subject of Weapon Finesse (including two-handed forms).

Blade Skill (Full Enhancement): When forming her mind blade into multiple items, the soulknife suffers no reduction in enhancement bonus.

Psychic Strike (Su): As a move action, a soulknife of 3rd level or higher can imbue her mind blade with destructive psychic energy. This effect deals an extra 1d8 points of damage on any attack she wishes to activate it on (as long as the attack is made with her mind blade). A soulknife may hold the charge as long as she likes without discharging. It does not go off on any attack unless she chooses to use it, and the charge is not wasted if an attack misses. Mindless creatures are immune to this damage, although non-mindless creatures immune to mind-affecting effects are affected by this damage as normal. (Unlike the rogue’s sneak attack, the psychic strike is not precision damage and can affect creatures otherwise immune to extra damage from critical hits or more than 30 feet away.) A mind blade deals this extra damage only once when this ability is called upon, but a soulknife can imbue her mind blade with psychic energy again by taking another move action. Additionally, she may recharge it as a swift action by expending her psionic focus.

Once a soulknife has prepared her blade for a psychic strike, it holds the extra energy until it is used (whether the attack is successful or not). Even if the soulknife drops the mind blade (or it otherwise dissipates, such as when it is thrown), it is still imbued with psychic energy when the soulknife next materializes it.

If the soulknife forms her mind blade into two weapons, she may imbue each mind blade with psychic strike as normal. If she reshapes her mind blade into a single weapon form, the additional psychic strike imbued into the additional weapon is lost. At every four levels thereafter (7th, 11th, etc), the extra damage from a soulknife’s psychic strike increases by 1d8.

Backstory:

Scattered across Varisia and beyond are enclaves. Hidden communities of Kitsune within human towns and cities that descended from refugees and caravan workers who had crossed the Crown of the World lifetimes ago.

It was in one such enclave in the city of Magnimar that Victor was born to a family that had ascended into the city’s nobility. Born with red eyes and white fur (an omen of destiny and divine blessing), he was coddled as a child and given every luxury fitting a noble of his station, as well as an education to be envied.

As he grew he showed a cunning mind and proved to be a natural leader despite his rather lackluster charisma. What he lacked talent, he made up for in cleverness and effort, quickly sharpening his tongue as much as his mind as he soaked in new skills at an incredible rate.

At the age of 14, he began to hone his skill in the ancient art of cooking, showing a talent for it even as his family pushed him towards more “proper” things. Meanwhile he was taught everything needed to get along in noble society, as well as everything to get along outside of it, for his parents always stressed the ever-present danger of discovery.

He was 16 when he discovered his ability. During a heated argument with an unrepentant bully of a noble’s son the cad’s reply came in the form of a dagger slash to the cheek. In a moment of instinct a long ethereal bastard sword formed in his hand as he swung back, leaving a large gash across the bully’s chest. As the injured teen ran he stared in bewilderment at the quickly dissipating weapon.

With time and well placed words Victor’s parents were able to quell the nobleman’s rage, and then looked towards finding a way to control this newly discovered ability. After a year and a half of searching they found a teacher, a vudran man known as Dsahn. Dsahn taught Victor of his newly unveiled power, psionic potential, and how to harness the blade within his soul.

When he turned 19 Victor was brought into the colonization plans of the nobles of Magnimar by his father. Officially he would represent the Cassius family, one of the more major Noble Families from Magnimar helping fund the expedition, but in secret he was tasked with gathering a large group of Kitsune from Magnimar, Sandpoint, and the surrounding settlements to join in the voyage, which he did through a combination of his sharp tongue, and natural leadership ability.

When they were to arrive and found a new settlement, he was intended to become a high ranking official and secure the establishment of a new place for his people in this bold new land.

Plans quickly went awry during the shipwreck and while he managed to make his way to land with some of his group, much went away from the plan. Helping a few other leaders who survived the wreck they quickly formed a small village from the groups coming ashore.

Since then he has been assisting with organizing the provisions and extending them, using recipes like stews to extend their meager supplies while also making sure the survivors had good hot meals.

Fluff Questions:

1. First, I'd like some kind of narrative backstory. Doesn't have to be very long or involved, or really special or dramatic (although it completely can be if you like). I would, however, like it to touch on a few key points: What was your character's upbringing like? What was their social status? Do they have any sort of profession, and how did they get into it? How old are they?

See the Backstory tab.

2. Second, everyone (well, most people) have people in their lives. It's okay if your answers to this are "no people", but that has to be a conscious choice. I'd like you to include in your submission two characters: One NPC that your character is leaving behind in their previous life, and one NPC or PC that your character meets on their months at sea. What do these people mean to you? What do you think of them?

I'm actually gonna give a small roster of each. Just because i like Fluff.

Those who came:

  • Jin: Victor's childhood best friend and the mischief maker of the two, though he was lower class the two still remained very close growing up. He was easily convinced to join the trip.

  • Amon Foxglove: A bully from Victor's past. Several years back in their first and only physical confrontation the two gave each other matching scars and though he has since lost his taste for direct aggression, he still stands staunchly opposed to Victor as a matter of pride.

    Those who stayed behind:

  • Martha Cassius: Victor's mother, the two were close and it was from her that he learned much of his heritage.

  • Dsahn: Victor's teacher who trained him in how to harness his Soul Blade. Victor remembers him as kind but stern, and will carry on his teachings in Arcadia.

    3. I want to know why your PCs are leaving behind everything they've ever known. Could be lots of reasons, but nobody does that sort of thing for s#&%s and giggles. Unless they do! Feel free to write a character like that, but it should be explicit.

As one (supposedly) blessed by Lady Daikitsu, the patron of all Kitsune, he is expected to do great things for his people. While he has talent, he does not enjoy the burden of leadership, but can't just ignore his duty to the people he brought to this strange and dangerous new land.

    4. They have a class. Presumably, those abilities didn't manifest out of nowhere. Why are they whatever class they are? Did they get training? Did their grandmother f*%& a demon?

He is unsure of the origins of his psionic ability, many like his parents assert it to be a gift of Lady Daikitsu herself. It was over several months of training with Dsahn that he mastered his ability to form his Mind Blade and then honed it into a deadly and discrete weapon.

    5. What does your character look and act like? How do they come off? How do they dress? What equipment do they use?

He enjoys dressing in fine clothing, usually shirts and pants made of brightly colored silks with many pockets and belts on the inside. He prefers to wear a mix of Red and White with Gold and Brown accents. He isn't a fool however, and between layers of silken lay protective chain armor padded to prevent noise.

    6. If your character has any self-awareness of their own alignment, what do they think of themselves? Why are they whatever alignment they are?

He doesn't think of his alignment much. On some level he knows he is supposed to be Good and Righteous because of his divine blessing. But mostly, his good comes through in acts of kindness and caring for others.
