Liberty's Edge

Male Aasimar Magus 2

Approaching the warehouse with the group, Velasar has already begun searching for magic auras on the building itself now that he is closer to it. On it already Keelix...

Detect Magic to check for auras, if so and there is time/opportunity, will concentrate as long as I can to get further information
K(Arcana) check:
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

OK, I think I misunderstood - I guess you were looking for me to make a DC17 roll? I was thinking since you put what kind of school it was that you had rolled for me and I made the roll, especially since I mistakenly used Spellcraft instead of Arcana.

So if you put a skill with a DC with a spoiler, you want us to publicly roll to see if we can view the spoiler or not, is that what I'm getting from this?

"We might be able to daze him or distract him with a spell...I could even make us almost completely obscured from view for a minute or so. Either way, I am agreeing with both Hal's and Keelix's thoughts - now we must combine them and get this done, quickly and efficiently!"

"Good scouting my friend. I would also like to report that there is a bit of minor abjuration magic on the portals on the warehouses around us...unfortunately, without getting closer, I can't tell more about our warehouse other than that corner nearest to us is free of magical auras. What now chaps and chappette? Perhaps a couple of us don a worker's disguise and simply blend in, the others keeping an eye on us and the surrounding area?" Velasar isn't all that happy about splitting up, but the five companions getting in all at one time without anyone noticing seems fairly unlikely.

With a smirk, Velasar replies dramatically to the lovely Suli, "Oh ha-freakin-ha, dear Eli." A genuine smile lights his face at the end of the comment however, attempting to communicate his sincerity in that all (whether true or not) has all been in friendly jest and banter.

Seeing Pruner arrive, Vel gives a subtle nod towards him "Boss." Velasar takes the small chiding Pruner gives about timeliness (though such a minor vice compared to the many others....

He listens to the missions, peeking over Elianna as she looks at the drawing of Parrin. "Egads, he is not at all...he may not recognize us in the end, but gods, that face will haunt me forever!"

To Albrecht he chuckles slightly, walking past Eli towards him and adds, "Good Half-Elf, in the end, all the world are thieves and pickpockets...we simply choose different targets...and some," he pauses, holding up a small coin purse branded with the letters 'ES', "just do it easier then others." Velasar smiles at Eli, tossing the purse back her way with a wink. Note: I didn't roll or anything like that to grab the purse - just RPing my overconfident arrogance with a small prank. =)

Hearing the details from Halbrin about the local area and combining them with his own minor knowledge, he shakes his head at Al's statement, adding, "Agreed, but we might want to disguise ourselves a bit since the ugly man isn't supposed to see our faces."

Near the warehouse now, Keelix takes off towards the roof, leaving the others to wonder if that's the best idea or not, Vel especially concerned they didn't discuss what to do before the Strix flew off. "Well, that's an option...but I agree with you guys that we need to try to not be seen at all, and most definitely not be noticed. So, shall we create some disguises before our winged counterpart comes back? And if we need a distraction, I can throw a little magic towards the guards to help us out there." He pauses a moment before continuing, "And Hal, I don't recall Pruner saying anything about witnesses, other than needing to leave Parrin alive...but he doesn't need to witness anything."

I'd like to detect magic with a spellcraft roll of 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14, looking for any magical wards or such specifically, but any type of aura in general as well on or around the warehouse.

Just an FYI - I may be a little spotty this week as well...running a training class at work takes a lot of time during the day and I'm fairly drained at night...but I will be posting, don't worry!

Yep, had to go brewer - I mean Velasar is rich, arrogant, pretentious and smart - how could he not be into microbrews??? ;)

Heh, it's been fun so far - I like how Eli just called Vel out for the pretentious playboy arse he was acting like. :) Very nice, very nice.

And let's be honest, this group is either a really good or really bad joke just waiting to happen - even without story I think we'd go on for awhile on our own! "So a Suli, an Aasimar, a Hobgoblin, a Half-Elf and a Strix walk into a tavern...." hehehe.

Opening his arms wide, gesturing to himself, Velasar laughs at Keelix's angelic comment. My friend, you put angels on a bit too high of a pedestal. Take it from one with their blood in his veins...most of their breed are overrated...if you are the black sheep, it is only because the majority are too scared to change their color.

The group is already aware of Vel's jaded view on his angelic nature - though they may not understand why just yet - but he still takes joy at any chance he can take to poke fun at his winged sires.

Ready to comment about working soft curves, Velasar gives a slight chuckle at Halbrin's comments, but becomes much more acquiescent once Elianna speaks. Dear Elianna, he says in a soft, serious tone, his golden eyes staring directly at his lovely companion, I would hope you know me enough by now that I would do no such thing. It was not advantage I took, nor was this woman truly frightened.

Sighing, the aasimar continues, To be honest, if I hadn't shown up when I did, I firmly believe the lady would have skewered the man where he stood - this was no mere commoner, it was the Lady Skye, proprietor of the "establishment of fun" uptown. Truth be told, once I saw it was her, I almost kept walking so she wouldn't think I was playing the chivalrous pig, but I caught a wink that told me to feel free to assist, so I greased the fool's feet out from underneath him so Skye could give a nice kick in the jewels.

A bit more sheepishly but still well composed, he finishes, And yes, she did wish to - thank me - but trust me, if anyone was frightened at the time, it would only have been I to be lying with that woman. Gods she is strong!

Velasar walks over to the suli and leans to kiss her hand, And now that my exaggerations have been called out, perhaps we can move on? Peace, Eli?

A sly grin reforming, Velasar replies to his friend, Ah, Halbrin, therein lies the answer to your own confusion! Who ever said it had anything to do with breeding?

Strolling through the front door as if he owned the place, a figure slightly over six feet tall flips open a pocketwatch as a slight frown forms on his golden colored face. Oh dear, he says, clearly being dramatic, and still looking at his watch, it appears that I have arrived last once again. My apologies if you have been waiting long, Velasar looks up at the party with silversheen eyes, the frown growing into a grin, but on my way I came across some brigands ready to rough up a young lass, and well, I would not be a gentleman if I let such activity go, yes? Once safe, the pretty girl demanded to repay me, and well... closing his pocketwatch and putting it back into his right breast pocket, he raises one eyebrow, I may be chivalrous, but I'm still a man.

He looks around the room at that comment, hailing each member with the appropriate nod or half-bow, Kerkovian; 'Brin; Elianna; Keelix my fine-feathered friend...and Pruner...well met, mates. Velaras sits down on a nearby crate, foot up against one side and pulls a gold coin from a belt pouch, beginning to work it around his golden knuckles. In an honestly polite tone, he asks their leader, Shall we begin my good man?

Yeah I will - I'll try to fix it tonight, but I'm packing and stuff for GenCon, so I may not get to it until after.

This is Ricky Bobby - give the profile linked to this alias a look, Mug (and anyone else).

Against everything I already listed...I decided on an Aasimar Magus (Kensai) with the Archon-Blooded Heritage, otherwise known as a Lawbringer. He's a noble with a successful on-the-side home-brewing business, and is multi-skilled/knowledgeable. He wields a katana as his Kensei weapon.

Basically, sort of a Batman-esque character, though I didn't mean to do that - kinda noticed it after the fact.

Background:
Velasar is a Tiefling Ranger that hails from Cheliax. His mother died when he was but a youngling, so he was raised by her husband - his human father - Crix from that time forward. Crix, a local hunter and legend due to the trophy creatures he killed and placed in the town hall, had no qualms at all about raising a tiefling child. He knew well that any living creature was merely a product of their environment - teach a tiefling child to fear or join with his demon heritage, they will be a monster - but so will any human dwarf or elf. Teach them instead to respect their heritage and embrace the qualities that make a person stronger while rejecting those that do not, and a well-structured young man comes of age instead of a monster.

It was this philosophy that Crix taught Velasar, and Velasar learned well. Over the years, Vel was taught how to track, hunt, and survive in the wilderness for days at a time on his own. He learned the arts of the bow as well as the sword.

And one day in the forests of the Barrowood, he learned how to love the life of an adventurer. His father and he went out for a typical track and hunt session, following some dire elks when a crash from behind them came and a shadowy blow sent his father sailing ten feet to his side. Vel turned, drawing his blade and found the red-yellow eyes of an owlbear staring at him, clawed arms raised for a potential killing blow. Vel reacted with instinctive speed, stabbing hard into the beast's chest and without pulling the sword free, tumbled backwards. As the owlbear screamed and pulled the sword from his chest, Vel pulled his bow, loaded two heavier arrows his father had made for him and let loose. The double-arrow shot lacked any semblance of aim, but he wasn't going for precision...just for pain. One arrow lodged in the creatures leg, the other the opposite hand. Screaming in agony and pain, the creature roared, turned, and barrelled back through the forest the way it came. That day, Vel had not panicked, instead saving both his and his father's life.

That was over six years ago; for the last few months he has been in the Worldwound, searching for information about his heritage and true father, respectfully curious about such matters, but finding little more than challenging hunts.

And then the magical sending came to him from Ustalav's Immortal Principality, summoning him to be present for the funeral and will-reading of Professor Lorrimor, a fellow explorer and good friend to him and his father....

Description:
The 21-year old hellspawn known to most as simply 'Velasar' stands at around 6'2" and weighs around 180 lbs. He keeps himself as toned/fit as possible, wanting to be in peak condition for any hunt, tracking, adventure or...miscellaneous mercenary work...that comes along. Velasar's skin is mainly the typical maroon-red of many 'pure' tieflings, but he has a slight gold hue that seems to almost iridescently shimmer from his body at times. This, coupled with rare gold-iris eyes, and he is both common and unique among his people.

Like most tieflings, he bears a mark of his heritage; in Velasar's case, he bears two such marks - the first of which are small but noticeable claws that he can mentally retract and slide out from over his normal finger nails (something that is actually fairly painful for him to do). The second mark are protruding spikes that point backwards (as if they were aerodynamic) from his forearms. Normally this would pose a problem for wearing armor and such, but his heritage has allowed him one benefit fairly uncommon among his race - his forearms are protected by a coat of thick scales, providing him with a bit of natural armor where his vesitigal spikes are.

Personality:
Some adventurers are storytellers or braggarts, some are charmers of women...some simply get the job done, say little and leave others alone.

And then there's Velasar. What one needs to know about Velasar is that he is concerned about two things in life: getting his job done through the best means possible, and the conviction....to not have conviction.

For some time now, Velasar has taken a zen-like view of the world, doing what he thinks is good, instinctive, natural. He looks at things like prejudice, compulsion, good and evil, law and chaos and scoffs at them. Not that he can't be passionate...but only if it is...natural.

From that worldview comes a man that tends to be less patient and more condescending since many others do not share his view - even other neutral parties tend to dislike him;Velasar is just not a very charming person. Strong, dextrous, smart...yes. A lady's man? A friend to all? The guy you want at a Taldorian ball? No...but he is a man you want fighting next to you, for what he lacks in general conviction, he makes up for in passion for adventure.
