Core Rulebook, pg 178: How Combat Works wrote:

Combat is cyclical; everybody acts in turn in a regular cycle of rounds. Combat follows this sequence:

1. When combat begins, all combatants roll initiative.
2. Determine which characters are aware of their opponents. These characters can act during a surprise round. If all the characters are aware of their opponents, proceed with normal rounds. See the surprise section
for more information.
3. After the surprise round (if any), all combatants are ready to begin the first normal round of combat.
4. Combatants act in initiative order (highest to lowest).
5. When everyone has had a turn, the next round begins with the combatant with the highest initiative, and steps 4 and 5 repeat until combat ends.

You roll initiative, then the surprise round takes place. If you're houseruling that initiative is rolled after a surprise round, a class feature of mine is rendered useless - a class feature which, as the only full BAB member of the party and by default the frontliner, I'd like to be able to use.

GM, I've stated outright before that Veccio is a glory hound. That might change, but for now, he's absolutely the type to rush recklessly into danger. Maybe he needs a few good whacks to bring him down a peg.

GM, I'd like to remind you again that due to his Foolhardy Rush ability from his order, Veccio can move as an immediate action when he rolls a natural 11 or higher during an initiative check. Going forward, can you please move him closer to the enemy when you roll initiative for us? He'll take that option every time he's within 30 feet of an enemy, prioritising obvious leaders / commanders / general big nasties. I'd also appreciate it if you could be more clear about when we get a surprise round.

As the others head towards the witness' house, Veccio looks at Meliandri and shrugs. "I suppose we'd better be following," he grins. "If anyone's suited to the talking, it's you."

VBeccio laughs out loud at Mels' rendition of the Slasher's legend, applauding and shaking his head when she finishes, grinning broadly. "You do have a way with speeches and stories," he grins, finishing his coffee and standing, brushing the imaginary dust off his palms. "Sounds like just the thing for us to handle. Let's get going!"

In the Devil's Nursery, the young Chelaxian seems visibly out of place, keeping one hand on his rapier and looking suspiciously at shadows, as if expecting to see the Slasher at any moment. "That could be worth trying," he mutters to Valrani, before nudging Mels in the ribs. "Reckon you can get some information for us?"

There appears to be a bit of a misunderstanding of where we actually are. The Wasp's Nest is the 'secret base' located underneath the Long Roads Coffeehouse.

After the salt works, Veccio spends a lot of his own time practising. He works with blade and boot, trying to perfect his footwork and form. He's in the middle of a particularly troublesome maneuver when Meliandri catches him, his feet tangle together, and he goes into a crouching lunge to try to regain his balance and (hopefully) salvage his reputation. It doesn't work.

"Out?" he manages, standing carefully and wincing at a pulled calf muscle. "Out out? Together out?" His eyebrows knit together as he thinks. "Alone out?" A faint red flush creeps across his cheeks and nose; he quickly coughs a little too conspicuously and takes great interest in the sole of his left boot. "I mean, I'm not saying no," he flounders, "I'm just saying, I-" He freezes mid-sentence and lets out his breath in a short, heavy sigh. "I'd like that," he finishes lamely, an idiot grin threatening to break across his face. Perhaps the only thing that saves him from making a complete fool of himself is the new arrival.

Placing a hand on Meliandri's shoulder and giving it a quick squeeze, he sheathes his rapier and heads upstairs to the coffeehouse, blinking with surprise at the newcomer. While his shoulders initially square instinctively, he relaxes slightly when he notices Rocco and Lirotha already talking to her. ”So we have a reputation as troublemakers already?” he mutters, glancing out the nearest window, before his lips split in a broad grin.”Ha! Those Thrunies will be forced to acknowledge the threat we are soon!” Standing by the window, he turns to face the group, one hand resting on his rapier hilt, the other planted firmly on his hip. ”This city will be ours, friends!”

Veccio springs into action, immediately charging through the enemy line before the dwarf's words are even finished. He vaults over one of the thugs, shoulders past another, and ends behind the dwarf, jabbing at him as a warning more than anything else. "Stop hiding behind your thugs and fight me like a man!" he jeers, head swelled with bravado.

Okay, GM. Here's how this is going to go down.
Foolhardy Rush (the 2nd-level ability for the Order of the Flame) allows Veccio to move up to his speed as an immediate action when he makes an initiative check and rolls 11 or higher on the dice (which he did).
The DC of an Acrobatics check to move through a square occupied by an enemy is equal to their CMD +5. Since our enemies have not yet acted in combat, they are flat-footed.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Rapier: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 Ouch. Somehow, I don't think that'll cut it.

After staring at Lirotha for a moment, Veccio grabs Meliandri's upper arm. "Come on! Let's move!" he exclaims, moving to follow the Varisian woman.

"Asmodeans? Bah!" Veccio makes to spit on the floor, but catches a glimpse of Mels and decides against it. "Let's get that door open and keep moving," he mutters, blushing and turning his gaze to the floor.

"Whatever he uses, we'll have to stop him from... using it any more," Veccio finishes lamely, eyeing the prisoner with only mild suspicion.

Panting heavily and somewhat amazed at his own luck, Veccio quickly cleans his rapier before moving to hide the body. At Rocco's signal, Kurglunn gets there first, and the young daredevil opts to stand back and allow the... thing to do its work alone.

Unable to reach the crowded doors, he instead tries to work a worrisome pebble out of his left boot.

I think I owe everyone an explanation, and an apology.

In my circle of gamer friends, I'm known as the one with terrible luck. When I play at a PFS table, my dice conspire against me, seldom rolling above a 9. When someone gets sick, I always pick it up. If technological eff-ups happen, they're always to me. I'm the bad luck magnet that soaks the bad stuff so everyone else can be awesome and have a good time.

So it dismayed, but didn't surprise me when, shortly after getting my replacement tablet, my charger stopped working, and I had to wait for a replacement to arrive (and it was only through goodwill that I was able to get one).

Then I came down with sinusitis.

Then I had to start involuntary volunteer work to keep my welfare payments (remember, I'm unemployed [not for lack of trying], and the Australian job market is tanking).

Then I developed laryngitis.

It sounds ridiculous, but it's all true - and my friends would back me up and say it wouldn't happen to anyone but me!

The sinusitis has passed, and the laryngitis is on its way out (finally!). I'm hoping to return to my (ir)regularly-scheduled posting soon. I'm sorry for my radio silence, and I wish I could promise more regular posts, but... the simple fact is, I don't know *how* life's going to kick me next.
