Anyone else having the feeling of:

"Oh, so paizo decided that a Goblin should be an alchemist. So, everybody and their grandmother who plays a Goblin will roll an alchemist. I don't want that." ?

(insert every other iconic character in there for reference..)

And as such you are looking for anything -but- creating your own character that is a copy of an iconic?

My personal ideas about this:

- Turn it around. What if they never implemented enviromental rules? Then your post would say: "Why doesn't Paizo include enviromental rules!? It's vital to the game! All different kind of planets and space occurences/gasses should be able to have hazard descriptions! Paizo is SO bad for leaving such a huge item in the universe out of their ruleset!"

- Also, not everybody and their grandmother wears armor all the time.
Example given, but not limited to: Slaves put to work in a camp, surrounded by hazardous gas. Easy for the enslavers to keep them in one spot.

As such in my eyes it's all good.
(please note, I am not in posession of the book, as such I am only able to talk about what you wrote.)

Bruno, thanks! That clarifies a lot.

A Ghost Touch Net (as per the weapon) puts the 'entangle' condition on the Ghost...and then you would be able to drag it/have it captured, right? Since ghosts/incorporeal creatures have no real STR score to burst the net or resist being dragged?

I don't see what staggered has to do with the nausiated condition. They are two unrelated conditions.

You gain the Nausiated condition.
Specific rule overrules the general rule.

As such, Nauseated creatures are unable to attack, cast spells, concentrate on spells, or do anything else requiring attention. The only action such a character can take is a single move actions per turn.

So thats it. That's what you can do, because you are Nausiated. No swifts, free, standard or full round actions, or anything that requires attention...it's in the description of the condition.

Hope to have helped.

I had a great time!
My only suggestion is to make PaizoConUK 365 days a year. I met great people and was honored to be a GM on sunday on such a great event! Love you all.

On topic:

Do not discourage or limit your players at anything...
Meaning: let them keep the option to be munchkins.
Forbidding/limiting is not the way.

Encourage them!
Encourage them to play an interesting character, story wise and personality wise.

The best player I ever had at my table was a girl who acted her character so incredibly cool that it didn't even matter what class it was. It didn't matter if she hit a target or not: whatever happened before, after to during combat, she just made the whole experience a story itself.

Encourage that. You do this first by teaching them how to do it, by graphicly describing what their actions look like when they do it....and send in NPC's who interfere with their characters, making the players think about they why and whats their character are doing things.

You will see that the players will enjoy the game more because of that and the rolling of the dice will become less and less the main focus, out of a natural way of playing the game.

What I find the most appealing of all these ideas is as follows: I can be or become anything I want to be in the game.
So the only thing the game has to do is give the players the tools to facilitate their 'being who they wanna be'.

So what would be a good list of what people would like to become in the game?

If you have an extensive list of that..or even devide them in catagories...then you can build the world around it to facilitate that.

So yeah, what are goals for people?

My ideas for my character are:

Becomming a trader. Not just a simple one, but a grand one! I would like to be the owner of a vast trading network, providing people what they need.
Why is this interesting? Because a character like that can make it fun for other characters in the game. I could be a quest-giver, so to speak.
I could hire people to get me ingredients, organise trading caravans, organise protection for them. Build/buy storagehouses and organise protection for it. Deal with the trading competition. Build a network of crafters and other traders, bringing people together. Hire assassins to take out that rogue who had the nerve to steal from me. Hire adventuring groups to get me that artifact my customer wants. Hire smugglers to get my goods to the people who need them while evading the customs/law in a city. Trade with criminal organisations in black market goods. Trade with empires to supply their armies with weapons and food, lumber exct.
If naval play comes to the game: organise transports over water and protecting them. Building ships and trading in them...in their construction and weapons...moving cargo over water, because it might be safer from regular robbers (and yet, piracy happens too!)

All this is a very social character design...and its awesomely diverse, while it also allows for other people to become what they want...

Will this be possible?

....no need to put anything in any build or stuff like that.

Buy the following item:

Cracked Vibrant Purple Ioun stone (or..check for spelling errors)

Get a wand of enlarge person.

Put a charge in the Ioun stone...or let it be put in there (having use magic device or not)

And then use the spell whenever you want.

I think the Ioun stone costs 2500 gp or something? It's basicly a 1st lvl spell storing item which activates the spell. Can even use it to store a shield spell in it or other personal spells like that.

Most simple way to do it.

Great thing is: you can keep putting spells in there. No downtime:)

It is mean to say that I would never allow such a lop-sided character to be played at my table? Well, I guess I am mean, then. But I have six regular players and three more who show up every now and then, and none of them would bring something like that to my table. And any new character that did, and insisted on playing it, would be shown the door.

MA

Since you incist in insulting me and being mean, i would like to wish you a peacefull life and hope you find a better place then my posts to read so you can still have a fun day. I will not reply to you or adress my further posts to you so you will not feel harmed by them any more.

Hey, get one thing straight here. I did not claim my monk was the best thing since the invention of alcohol! My claim is that monks are not underpowered and that at th8s one rond of attack in the game people thought "whoa, thats a lot" and had an idea that the monk i had was overpowered due to also having a high ac at the point.
Now i was asked to post my build and situation to show what happened and i did. You can have your own ideas about it and everything.
Also remember that in a real game you play with allies who help you and provide you with buffs, so this is a realistic situation in a game and a fun thing to have happened to a player who rolled nice for once.

As such i do object to any comments like the one stating that i should be thrown from the table. That is a plain mean and very unreasonable thing to say when i was just posting to show my character and that one time i got a nice result from my dice. You sir are mean if you mean what you type and i would like you to reconsider your remark.

Monks are not underpowered at all, great fun to play and can do some amazing things, just like any character class should be able to do and that is what i aimed to point out with my post.

And i think i have done just that. Thankyouverymuch.....

Monks are not underpowered in my opinion. My dear monk did 137 points of damage in 1 round while being lvl 8 while having an armor class of 37 and saves like +8, +10 and +11. This all in a lvl 7-9 adventure.

The rest of the party informed me that they think my character is too overpowered.

Allright, the time has come!

My dear chelish monk has come to a point she has the ability to buy an island (using the 30 prestiege/fame points).
From day 1 she wanted to start her own monastary/monk temple/herwayofbeingamonkincheliax.

Now I've spoken to some people in the past and they told me that if I'd think of a monk order to exist in Cheliax then that would be allright and it would just...exist.

Thing with Cheliax is that it isn't known for acually having any monks, since they are more about summoning stuff as a country.

So, my idea was to start one, using my freshly bought island as a base, placeing buildings like a temple, training grounds and guests quarters on it, including populating the island with crazy 'stormcourse/armystyle' jungle survival stuff in there to train other people in how to become a monk like she is. You know, like the island in 'Enter the Dragon' with Bruce Lee.

How do I go about this? Do you guys think it is all allowed? Am I restricted by anything?
Anyone already owning an island out there maybe able to inform me what the possabilities are? What did you do with your island?

Of course it would all be roleplaying fluff, but would it be allowed to fit it in the world?

Thanks for your input!
