Hello, i've already searched on the messageboards about this topic but unfortunately i haven't found a clear answer (or i'm just dumb). I have several questions on Oracle's Brain Drain ability:

1) It says that if the target succeeds on the will save it immediately knows the source of the spell. Does that mean that if it fails it doesn't know the source? So i could go stealth, Drain someone's mind, and leave without being detected?

2) It says to threat the revelation as a Detect Thoughts spell. Does that mean that i can read surface thoughts without the knowledge check? For example, i could use Brain Drain just to know if the target has hostile intentions or if it is lying, something like this?

3) If i need to use the full round action to know even this basic information from 2), what check would it be? Knowldege Local? if so, what would be an appropriate DC? Maybe 5, or 10 since it is personal information?

4) Even if it is treated like Detect Thoughts, i don't need to use all the three turns to read the target's mind right? In the same way, if i probe someone with an INT score of 26 or higher, my Revelation would break?

5) Surface thoughts is somewhat abstract for me. Does it mean that, unless it is a really deep secret, i could use Brain Drain to know information like the target's hideout, where are its allies or their general plan about a subject (attack the city, search the treasure, etc)?

Very good, thanks Conall, you really helped a lot. That was exactly the idea i was in mind, snipping with a very strong shot. I'll make some more research, start taking notes of some feats i could use.


Yes i've talked with him before coming here. Our campaign will be war-like. In the region there will be plenty of vast fields, a couple of small cities and some forts and military buildings. There will be dungeon crawling but not much, and the caves aren't that big.

He liked the idea because it fits will with the group, which is basically a mercenary group, each one with a very good ability.

Yes, as far as possible while still shooting them. In group situations/combats i plan to stick with them, in the back of a room or entrance of a cave, while hitting enemies. In situations that i can use my great range for something useful i'll do it. Maybe i need to figure it out better later, but in general i don't plan to stay distant from my group.


Hello everyone!

New campaign starting soon with my friends so i would like to build a nice character. After thinking for some time i decided i want an archer/shooter like dude with a giant beard.

The main idea tough is to make him a good sniper, i wish to shoot from very far distances and put bad guys down before they even know what the heck is going on.

Since i'm just an average player, i would like some advice on making this build functional. I plan on playing a Human, and probably Ranger as class, but if you have any race/class/feats/skills/traits suggestions it will be very welcome.

Thanks for the tips guys. Half-elf sounds really interesting now that you mentioned, it doesn't get far from the character idea and it gives these awesome bonuses. That crit build sounds cool to me, i think i'll walk this way.


Hello everyone, this is my first post so i'm sorry if it is on the wrong subforum. Also, i beg pardon for any language mistakes i made, not my native language.

As the title says, i would like advice on building a Summoner that can rely on melee abilities. My group will be starting a new campaign in some weeks and we are already thinking on our characters.

The idea is is simple. I would like to have my eidolon do the most part of combats, but if something bad happens i would surprise enemies by hitting them in the face, so what advice could you guys give me about how to build this guy?

We will be using the Ability Scores purchase system with 15 points.
What can you tell me about a good configuration of Ability Scores, Feats, Skills, Weapons, Magic Items.

I plan to play as human, but you can give me other race ideas if you wish. Eidolon building and modifications is up to you too, although i have in mind to play with an biped elemental.

Any advice will be welcome. We will also be using the Pathfinder Unchained Summoner's version. Thank you.
