Background:

Tsukitaro was sold to a Ninja clan as a baby in an odd trade agreement between humans and Hobgoblins. The Hobs got a good chuckle out of the arrangement, whereas the humans considered it a worthwhile experiment to see whether a Goblin could be trained in such a fashion that its natural abilities with stealth could be made useful.
The experiment was a success - up to a point. With no other point of reference, Tsukitaro (as he was named by the Ninja clan's matriarch, a kindly-looking grandmother who could still kill a man at ten paces) was an obedient and alert student of everything his masters decided to teach him. Even at a young age, he was silent, perceptive and eager to please.
Then came the day of the little Goblin Ninja's first assignment; the assassination of a priest of Tsukiyo in Goka. If the Goblin failed, the elders reasoned, it would be easy for them to escape blame. If he succeeded, then they would congratulate themselves on the success of their training. Tsukitaro duly travelled to Goka, hiding in the shadows the whole way, and crept into the little shrine where the priest sat in prayer. He crept up behind the holy man... and heard the words he spoke to his gods. Mesmerized, Tsukitaro lowered his blade and continued to listen. When the priest finished his prayers and turned around, the Goblin was still standing there, half-asleep on the smell of incense and the words of good.
Tsukitaro had no frame of reference other than the life he had led up to this point, and the words of Good came as a profound shock to him - but not an unwelcome one. For three years, the Goblin hid in the shrine of Tsukiyo, a student to the man he had been sent to kill. Then came the night that a different assassin crept into the shrine, poised to kill Tsukitaro's new teacher -- and they clashed in battle. Blood was spilled, but the assassin fled rather than face both the furious Goblin and the target priest in battle. In the aftermath, the priest insisted that Tsukitaro leave in order to preserve his own life; this latest assassin had come from the same clan that had raised the Goblin, and their revenge for treachery would be swift and terrible...
Tsukitaro did as he was ordered by his priestly mentor. He fled far. He fled very far, all the way to Avistan in fact. In grand Absalom, he disembarked. And it was in Absalom that he rescued a man from muggers. This man, a Venture Captain of the Pathfinders, appreciated the novelty of the experience and offered the anomalous Goblin a challenge he found quite attractive...

Appearance and Personality:

Tsukitaro looks like a fairly typical Goblin, save that he is fastidious about his appearance and gear and favours Tien fashions.

The little Goblin is quiet and self-effacing. Aware of his species' foul reputation and sorrowful for its accuracy, he strives to show that he is polite and civilized at all times -- except when he perceives Evil to be taking place, at which time he becomes a silent and furious tempest! Content to give his own life so the innocent might live, Tsukitaro is determined to be better than the accident of birth and the rigors of his first education dictated that he should become. Much better.
