I didn’t get the uncommon gnome warrior. And two of the leng spiders disconnected from their base. Easy enough to fix.

The Jabberwock rocks! The show goth and other aberrations, even the giant amoeba are great.

Does any have a correct key for the SDF Rampart, which is on the inside back cover? The printed map key doesn’t match the printed map.

Hi,

Was the duration of Lesser Simulacrum amended?

Simulacrum has instantaneous duration, while Lesser Simulacrum as a duration of 1 hour / level.

I'm assuming that I just failed to note the different duration when I looked at the spells earlier. But thought I would check.

Also ... with a casting time of 1 hour, the Lesser version is hard to use; harder still for Alchemists, which also takes an hour to cast, but then 24 hours to grow.

See:

And:

Thx!

Tried again this morning and was able to complete the download. There was a delay of about 30s but the download did eventually proceed and complete.

If there is a queue for downloads, an indication of the queue position and expected wait time would be very useful.

Thx!

Hi,
Have been unable to download tonight. I go to the download page, the select a download (Villian Codex, which I just purchased), then click again after 10s, reaching the "your download should begin shortly" page, the click on the link since the download does not start in 5 sec. That produced a little activity, then stops, and then nothing for at least a couple of minutes.

Any problems on your end? Should I let the page sit for longer?

Thx!
Tom

Hi,

Can the relationship of the Stolen Lands to the map of Brevoy be clarified? I'm thinking this is a rectangle somewhere between Pitax, Restov, and New Statven, but lining up the maps has been difficult. Or is the area more to the south of Restov? What I'm looking for is a way to handle travel, say, from Restov or New Stetven to the starting area.

A fine product, so the following are only small issues, but, what way do the rivers flow? And how do some cross mountains?

Thx!

Hi,

Hrm, what about the problem of enemies that just don't understand what the Bard is saying, or don't care? Can the power be used against a construct or mindless undead?

Is there a [Mind-Affecting] keyword?

I though that the idea of the power affecting what the target did was a nice idea.

For minded opponents, there is a nice symmetry between Warlords "encouraging" their allies and Bards "discouraging" them. But, that idea lends itself to there being an overlap between Warlord and Bard powers. Seems that both classes should be able to do both. A matter of Style, I suppose, with the Warlord being hard and direct, and the Bard being soft and indirect.

Probably not. Those older products are competition.

Let's explore an idea without conspiracy theory.

If the PHB2 sales were hurt by online torrenting, I can see a case for not selling 4E PDFs any more. At least the new ones that haven't been released yet, like Arcane Power.

But why get rid of the older PDFs? The ones that aren't being printed any longer? The ones that are likely to have been on the pirate sites for years now, already. Because selling those PDFs only generates revenue. They're not in print, and they're likely to already on the torrent sites. If you sell *any* of them, that's just extra pocket change. Bonus money. So why not?

Unless if you see them as competition with your new products.

Nod/agree/yup.

I'll venture a prediction.

Sometime in the near future, WOTC will announce the availability of 4e books (and possibly, but with lesser probablity 3.5) available through them exclusively.

The material will be through a subscription-only mechanism, assuring that while previously one could make a one-time purchase, the new system will ensure ongoing money flowing to WOTC. The predicted form of the material will be either on-line only, or heavily DRM'd.

If I had to guess at the form, I'd guess that the Compendium will be enlarged to have more complete material. (such that everything that could be learned from a book could be learned from the compendium).

This fits in with how WOTC previously screwed over Paizo on Dungeon and Dragon magazine.

I'd bet that if they do so, they will sell less copies then they would through a wide distribution system, but they will reap all of the income, instead of a royalty-sized slice. Metaphorically giving up a single slice of a large pie for the entirety of a smaller pie.

Hi,

This is my read, as well. From what I can tell, WotC is shifting its products into higher profitability channels.

Pre 4E products, in all forms: Drop completely: Low profit margin and competes with higher margin products (4E).

4E products: Focus on high volume books (Players guides, DMG's, etc), which, by high volumes, allow for a lower unit cost and a greater spread of development costs. Focus on high profitability items (Power card decks and miniatures). Focus on low unit cost online subscription model (DDI).

(I imagine that anything that does not support the same margins as the 4E products is being stripped away.)

As business decisions, I imagine that those are looked on as correct decisions. First off, they are firm decisions. Second, they show a clear focus on what is profitable. (On the other hand, alienating the customer base seems to be a bad idea -- unless you don't care to keep the particular customers you are alienating.)

The decisions do seem to eviscerate the rich legacy of the game.

Hard to say if the strategy is correct: If the goal is to amortize the current investment in the brand (with a focus on profitability and maintaining that as long as possible), alright, I can see that. If the goal is to mold the game into a specific niche and optimize it for that niche, I can see that, too.

But beware any customer who falls outside of that niche.

(Problems, too, for WotC, if the niche is missed, or turns out to be too small, or too dynamic.)
