Edric: From what Edric can tell, the man means no harm and has no idea that anything is amiss whatsoever. In fact, he seems to think he is living a normal day in a normal life. "Valen Traneir, at your service." the bearded man says with a smile and an exaggerated bow that is more humorous than demeaning. "Come now. Inside with you before you get a chill. You look like you've had a long day." He motions again. Edric can smell bread now, wafting on a nonexistent breeze.

Arodus: The nobleman pulls the sheets off of a huddling, horned child. She is emaciated, bruised, and wearing little more than a tattered tunic. She sniffles piteously with sunken eyes and reacts to Arodus by backing away further on the bed, murmuring the word "no" over and over with increasing urgency. Her wrists are raw. This much is obvious when she places her arms out defensively against imagined blows.

"I have never heard of an ink defense on a demon." Jory says unhelpfully, gifting Sunny with a long-suffering smile. Marduzi clears his throat.
He calmly strokes his well-kept beard.
Jory looks furtively back into the area where the cots are held.
Marduzi gives a smile of agreement. "Well, at least those are some good news coming from today... As for the box..." He pulls it from the elder's grasp and immediately perspires, biting his lips down in agony.
Jory sighs.
"No. That... would.. be ridiculous... I... don't know.. Master Tane...?" The elder is no help, continuing to stare into space. Jory snatches the box, showing none of the same tendencies when he takes it. He looks at Marduzi in pity and confusion.

The moth flitters around Devana briefly before meandering over to the chapel door, where it alights and flutters its wings exactly three times. It then takes wing once again and lands just a little further down on the door, flapping its wings two times, and then spinning.

The elder laughs at Sunny despite Marduzi's pointed glance. Jory holds out his hands in a placating gesture. "Now, child, it isn't a literal mark." Elder Tane points out helpfully. "It is the wounds you need to worry about." Sorval looks like she might be physically ill this very instant, but makes a conscious effort to not let loose anything within her stomach's contents. "-but before you panic," Marduzi says with a sigh, "You're partially right about travelling to find one. Both the elder and I know of a place on the mountain. It is... hidden, of course. An old shrine." Elder Tane starts to say something and then becomes utterly listless, staring into space.

I do this from time to time. Sorry, guys. It's hard to get back on track after such a long church retreat. They had us give up phones, timekeeping devices, and the ability to go outside. I got back late Sunday, but the communal living with sick women got to my body, as did the sleep deprivation.

Devana finds the inscription from before gone, and a small moth flutters on the side of the statue in its place in clockwise circles. It has golden flecks that glint on its wings, and soon takes to the air, orbiting Devana's head momentarily before heading to the door, still barred. On the other side, there is the distinct sound of an animal braying. Edric: It comes from directly inside, but is not lumbering or dangerous. A man in an apron who is quite obviously out-of-place here with his bright brown eyes, tanned skin, and healthy aura opens the door. "Ho, friend. You're early!" he greets, smile lines visible through the thin beard he sports. "It's a bit early to be coming for a drink, but come in anyway. My wife and I are always so interested in the stories of the wandering. Come, it's warm inside and apt to rain this time of year." He gestures through the door to the darkened place, though there is a hint of candlelight.

Zeltor:
That would be Elder Brewer Tane. He is a bit on the venerable side and spends most of the day in bed and in prayer. He sometimes can be called on for higher-level spells, but some days he is just too ill to do so, which is why Marduzi has become the de-facto leader of this temple of Cayden. The lad, whom Manny and Zeltor both know to be named Jory, leads them inside after concentrating momentarily on the object in Sunny's hands. His eyes were wide, and he is clearly shaken. It smells of hops, and the building is still, primarily, a brewery. The group is left to wait by some lamps whilst Marduzi and an elderly man in a nightgown and cap come to greet them. "What is all this about an evil box...?" Marduzi asks, whilst the elder strokes his chin and stares at the object in question, muttering a little incantation.
"Evil, Son. Absolutely pure, unadulterated evil." the old man intones. He starts to work on another spell to diagnose the exact nature of the thing, but then he slows down, looking a little lost.
"I imagine you were identifying the box, sir." Marduzi offers helpfully, pity in his eyes. "Ah. I was, wasn't I?"
"Ah... I see." he murmurs. "What is it, Father Tane?" "The result of a reality-bending magic, I would wager... and something that will be hard to get rid of." Jory, who hadn't been far away, scratches his head and offers up-
"Yes...er...I suppose..." Elder Tane answers, confused when the teenager laughs. "Is it just me, or are those way too common in this world...? With all the evil artifacts in Taldor alone, you'd think people just wake up some mornings and think "hm, how can I make a reality-bending evil actualize itself today"?" Marduzi clears his throat, and the youth goes quiet. By way of explanation, the man offers, "Jory hasn't slept for more than three hours in a week. I am sorry, we don't mean to make light of this situation. It's..." "-bad, yes. Very bad." The elder finishes. "You're going to need the help of a powerful angel to get rid of this one, and perhaps other things, if it marked you..." Marduzi puts a palm to his forehead as he watches Sorval's reaction.
Elder Tane shakes his head.

Cyrielle:
Sleeping brings about vivid dreams tonight, and they are quite lucid. Most of them involve visions of the night sky. ?-?-?-? The next morning dawns yet again, though today Vincent knows that there will be a grocery delivery cart coming in.

Cyrielle Rousseau wrote: Haha! These things happen. I'd make a straight roll and apply either it or her's as an aid, whichever's lower. As far as the time goes, it's really quite fluid, but I think the nights end when none of the characters have any more input. ^This. Definitively.

Ceiro:
Ceiro hears something feebly crying beyond some of the trees. It sounds like a baby. Arodus: Arodus enters a hallway with three doors. Again, only one is open, and it looks like it was done by some sort of powerful creature with claws. Compared to the rest of the mansion, this area is sparcely decorated, with firm wood and some kind of concrete mixture forming the walls and floor.
The open room at the end of the hall contains a single wire-framed bed that looks like it is almost ready to fall apart (and has only one threadbare blanket upon it), a set of manacles on the floor, a chamber pot, a dish like one would provide for a dog, and marks on the walls made by a thrashing prisoner. However, there is something..moving... under the blanket on the bed.

The night streets are as safe as they typically are in this settlement. There are a couple of night watchman who greet you as they pass. It takes barely any time at all, then, to reach the brewery in which Marduzi and his brethren live and work.
Ruul and possibly Sorval, if that player is still here.:
The wounds tingle. Marduzi's younger associate opens the door when it is rapped upon with groggy eyes and a lantern.

Arodus: Arodus is not assailed by anything, and he can see a dusty reception foyer through the doors in question. A green carpet rolls until it reaches a marble staircase, and a large glass window lets natural light stream down through the dust. Suits of rusted armor in an unfamiliar style flank both sides of the door, and entrances to other chambers dot the main floor, though all of the doors on this story are shut with on exception to the right. However, there is a singular figure standing hunched on the bottom stair in dilapidated finery. His eyes are open, but there is no sign of animation. He is weighted down by long streams of jewelry and strongboxes in stiff arms. Upon closer inspection, it is clear that there is a massive dagger pinning a sheet of bloodied paper to his back that reads:

Manny stabs him, Zeltor peppers him with arrows, and the creature starts to gasp for breath, but still moves freely until Sunny slams into him with the small, painted box that he apparently entered in. He is sucked into it instantly, leaving behind all of Zeltor's arrows behind intact, and the thing buzzes with malign energy in Sunny's hand for a moment before the entire shop grows still. End combat.

Meaning that the head was able to move. Only Devana is still in the chapel, and even she was blinded for a moment. Devana finds herself alone with Arodus's pot and a chapel as peaceful as it had been at the start. However, beams of sunlight filter in through the mist, and somehow she feels... safe. Well, as safe as she could ever be in this place.
In place of the pit in the floor, there is once more a water fountain, running clean rivulets into itself. The statue's head remains locked in its second position, facing the east. Perception. Edric:
Edric finds himself knocked against a chair in front of a tavern shrouded in mist. He is on the porch, and can hear the sign above him squeaking in a non-existent breeze. Visibility is limited beyond ten feet in the distance, but he swears he hears footsteps. Perception. Ceiro:
Ceiro thought he had landed against a wall, but instead feels the damp of mossy stone. The air smells cleaner here, and Ceiro feels something like sun on his face. His vision starts to clear and he finds himself in a place not unlike the wilds of Varisia. There is fog, but beams of sunlight come through slats between withered trees. He is sitting against a large rock, and can't help but notice that there is a number one glowing on his wrist. You have a +1 bonus on will saves as a result of using the key. It is an untyped, permanent bonus. There is a fresh grave directly next to him, marked only by a piece of timber and dead flowers. Arodus: Arodus is startled to find that he is in some sort of manor courtyard, rather than the chapel, when his vision clears. His pot is nowhere to be seen, but his crossbow is resting in sod. The manor itself seems to be three stories high, and made of flaking gray plaster and stone. It was brightly painted with blues and yellows, but now, in the muted sunlight and fog, it seems sick and rotted. Still, it feels.. safe, somehow. The front door hangs open, and visibility is limited beyond the nearby grounds due to mist... but it appears that to the east, the ground simply stops, as if there is a deep ravine.

The monster lopes after Edric, matching him step-for-step and shaking the ground beneath him. The man in question hears monstrous shrieking coming from another temple nearby. However, before the actions can go through, Ceiro inserts his key, which in turn unlocks the statue head. Arodus succeeds in pushing it further.
Fort save DC 15 OR experience being tossed through the air, seemingly without respect for previous physical boundaries. :) In which case, make a DC 15 acrobatics check or take 1d6 ⇒ 2 nonlethal damage as you land on moist dirt, still temporarily blinded.

Ruul's attacks do yet more damage, and Bryndarys laughs masochistically as what is probably his blood starts to seep everywhere. Sunny feels a pull from the box as she tries to shove the creature into it, and the boundaries of his claws flicker, but she misses and falls forward with the box. Sorval moves forward and attempts to stab the monster with a rapier and a spell, but it fizzles and she misses. Bryndarys turns from Zeltor to the newcomer as she whimpers. His attack snakes right past Sunny's shoulder and into Sorval's gut. Manny, Zeltor, Ruul, Sunny, Sorval
