Amelia Dubose was born in Ithaca, New York. Her father Maximilian was a wealthy French businessman who worked in the city. He commuted weekly to the city and spent weekends in Ithaca. Her mother Genevieve was an actress of some minor fame. After Amelia was born she transitioned to become a stay-at-home mother, a choice that would prove to affect Genevieve’s mental well-being quite negatively. This manifested in her constantly helicoptering over Amelia. This had some benefits, Amelia was able to enroll in the best schools from pre-school though post graduate, however Amelia grew to resent the lack of independence quickly.

By the time Amelia was 4 she already yearned for more time to herself then she was being given. She found that the only time that she could get away from her mother was when she was in classes and since her father felt guilty from his largely absent role in her life he would pay for nearly anything she wanted. So, she began to enroll in as many classes as she could, initially the range of classes she took was huge, everything from martial arts to painting to history and math, but she found fairly that she was drawn to music.

She enrolled in classes 3 times a week in both voice and flute, her flute quickly stagnated and fell down to a once a week specialty class as her voice climbed to 5 times a week by the time she was 8. When she entered junior high at 10 she transferred to specialty performance school in Gotham, so she began commuting along with her father every week and Genevieve was left alone at home except for weekend. This caused an even more precipitous fall in her mental health. When Amelia was 12 she was invited to perform at Madison Square Garden with the MET Orchestra. On the day she was set to preform her mother attempted suicide. Amelia went on less than an hour after receiving the news. Her father rushed home to Ithaca. Though Genevieve was unsuccessful she left herself in a near vegetative state from which she still hasn’t recovered.

This tragedy weighed heavily on Amelia but also helped to bolster her fame, the incident became a talking point on new stations who then showed Amelia’s performance. She was interviewed nationally and preformed for the president, prime minster of England, and prominent technocrats among others. By 16 she was the principal Coloratura soprano for the Gotham Opera. At 18 she moved to Starling City for college studying art history, she was offered and accepted the same principal role at the Starling Opera. Well in college Her father regularly attended her performances, but she still returned to Ithaca whenever she can to be with her ailing mother who is nearly unresponsive kept alive by state of the art medical technology.

During her time at college, she got Intimately familiar with the members of Starling City’s upper class whenever she wasn’t in class or at the Opera. She spent the most time with Oliver Queen whom she shared a fair few days with and even more nights. Though she planned to return to Gotham after graduation she got a contract to do one final production with Starling Opera, The Nightingale.

About 3 months ago During her premier performance in the title role of Stravinsky’s The Nightingale her spotlight started acting strangely, changing its size and color seemingly without anyone manning it. the changes did, however, seem to follow changes in her voice, as it rose in pitch the light became brighter and tighter around her as it lowered they dimmed and stretched to wash out the entire stage. By the end of the first song, she sang she almost seemed to be creating her own light. A fact which proved true when she walked off stage. After seeing this the rest of the show was cancelled and Amelia’s management team came into the theatre to examine the spotlight, they found that the lens on it was imbued with radioactive particles of color filter.

Amelia herself found that she now produced light whenever she sang, by altering the sound she could change the intensity, color, and placement of that light. She vowed to try to keep this as secret as she could but wanted to start testing what she could do and keep preforming. She began attempting to incorporate this newfound ability into her performances and formed a partnership with a lighting designer who took credit for the new “technology” as they called it. Well she trained herself in her shows she also began doing what she could in secret to help Starling City initially working as a hidden aid to the police who billed her the Dazzling Canary.

Amelia is a stunningly beautiful woman with a regal face. She has long, flowing brown hair that falls in loose waves down her back, framing her face and accentuating her piercing green eyes which seem to glow with an inner light.

Her costume is an elegant black opera gown that flows gracefully around her. The gown is made of a high-tech, lightweight material that allows for maximum movement and flexibility in battle. Its intricate design is accented with shimmering gold threads weaving up her back, adding a touch of glamour and sophistication to her appearance. When she uses her powers, her eyes become even more luminous, and her entire body seems to radiate with a warm, otherworldly glow particularly though these ribbons of gold.
