Hate to have to do this but, Unfortunately I am no longer able to participate in the game. I hate doing this. There really isn't a nice way to say it but my wife is jealous of the time I spend gaming. Sorry to just leave like this, but my marriage is more important to me than the game. I took a break several months ago for the same reason, but I guess taking a break wasn't enough. Sorry for the inconvenience my departure causes, and hope you all have a good game. Thanks.

Thane controled his fury at the young woman barging into his home uninvited with difficulty. He had been living in Wati for several years but some of the native peoples customs still confused him. She had brought a gift, and didn't not seem to mean anyone any harm, but Thane deliberately moved to place himself in between the stranger and his Wife and mother-in-law.

Rubani and Shalina wrote:

"My name is Shalina. My uncle sent me here on business." the young woman said when she finally introduced herself

"Business? What business would this be? And who is your sterling uncle?" Rubani asked
Shalina gave the half-elf a teasing pout, "I had thought the family resemblance was obvious but apparently not. I know my skin is a little lighter having a northerner for a mother but I have been told that I look most like my father who looks quite like my uncle... Shalina could see that realization was dawning on some faces while others started looking slightly irked. Why it is Uncle Namrut, of course!

I didn't even know the old bastard had a brother Thane growled as he realized that the girl was not a threat. Everyone please make yourselves comfortable. I think we have a lot to discuss tonight.

Shalina wrote:
Shalina became serious as she got down to business. "I am afraid that Akbar is unable to make it. My uncle had heard through his information network that a past dealing had caught up with Akbar which has...tied him up so-to-speak. Uncle obviously wants to protect his investment and knew that you would need extra help and so he has sent me to you.

That is unfortunate. Should we go help him, or is this a matter we would be wiser to stay clear of. Thane asked as he settled cross legged on to one of the cushions. I was fairly sure of what skills Akbar was bringing to the group. Why don't both of you tell us how you can improve our chances of success.

Tag Shalina and Azghaad. Sorry this took so long entire family got sick over Christmas and I haven't had time to write anything until now.

Thane was greatfull that Boram had not tried to help with the cooking like he had the evening before but was disturbed by the irrepressable halflings change in demeanor.

Don't worry friend Boram. Dog sized scorpions are scary enough when your my size. I imagine they are absolutely terrifying as small as you are. You had a close call today so I can't blame you for wanting to find a little safer work for a while. You might consider going and visiting Namrut again. The man has hundreds of contacts here in Wati he maybe able to put you in touch with someone that can use your talents. Turning to the others Thane said So we are down one member. What do you all think of sounding out that fancy dressed fellow we met in the Necropolis. He is in need of a group now, and the way he roasted those scorpions could be useful.

Tag Naomi, Ackbar, and Rubani

male Human Barbarian 2

honestly, I am not sure what to do now. Good aligned Characters can't go off treasure hunting and leave people buried alive. We would need to find out for sure that the buried party are dead before we could continue. Maybe you could have one of the Pharasmin in the party cast a spell to discover if they are still alive. (Pharasmins should have a spell like that. you don't want to go burying someone that isn't dead.)
I think we almost have to call it a day and come back in the morning. If we had gotten into out tomb I was thinking of just forting up and fighting undead all night, but now it is better that we head out. Boram will turn yellow and Azghaad take his place. That is the only way I can come up with to get us back on track.

male Human Barbarian 2

Sorry I have missed the update. My wife was in a minor car accident on friday. She is okay but the accident agravated a earlier neck injury, and she has been in a lot of pain. I have been busy helping her out.

Thane lagged after the group just long enough to ensure that the mule was securely tied so it couldn't wander away. Then sword in hand he ran after the others.

So, your group was attacked by spiders? There was an explosion, and then the building collapsed with your friends inside? The northern barbarian asked Azghaad. Unless they were very lucky, I fear your friends are already dead and we are not equiped to recover their bodies. The voices of the spire will need to be informed of what happened.

Someone will have to go and bring the Pharasmins here. Thane said looking towards the dropping sun. There isn't much time left before the sun goes down. . . .It looks like we aren't going to get into our site today. He said sheathing his bastard sword and taking the shovel from Azghaad. Thane started to dig in the place Azghaad was digging before though at a slower pace.

male Human Barbarian 2

Round 1

Get Back! Thane yelled at the diminutive Alchemist and hurled his shovel overhand at the attacking scorpion.

attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18 (+3 ranged attack,-4 improvised weapon)
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6

the shovel struck the scorpions carapace with a load crack.

All of you get back! Thane called to the others drawing his bastard sword.

Round 2
Thane charges the second scorpion. Chopping at the dog sized arachnid with both hands.

attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Thanes attacks would leave the first scorpion with around 7 hp, and the second with 1 hp

When Naomi joined them at the gates of the necropolis Thane was shocked to see the massive weapons she carried. Are you able to wield those monsters? He asked the priestess indicating the scythe and hammer. I am surprised some as small as you is even able to lift one of those, let alone swing it.

Have you run into many undead in the necropolis? Thane asked the Pharasmin while they waited for the funeral procession to pass. Are the undead very active in the northwest corner of the necropolis? We were assigned the tomb of Akhentepi in the lottery. It is up in that area. You wouldn't know anything about the tomb would you?

diplomacy to gather information: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5 apparently the priest is one of those militants that don't like the lottery

Thane looked up at the massive tomb of Akhentepi. As big as it was there was a good chance it held something of value. If we can even get inside he thought. as he eyed the massive stone doors.
Well we will never get in standing around like this. Lets clear the sand from the doors That said Thane stripped off his outer robe, took one of the shovels and began digging the sand from in front of the tomb doors.

male Human Barbarian 2

Thank you Master Namrut.Thane said as he stood to bid the older man goodbye. It is good to know that we have at least a chance of recovering something valuable, and I think we are all agreed, you will get a chance to buy any antiquities we recover before we show them to anyone else. It is too soon to promise anything beyond that. We may not find anything worthwhile, so let's discuss it when we get back. Thane clasped Namrut's hands then lead his companions back towards the market and his home.
I am for getting our equipment and starting our exploration. What do you all think?

When the five arrived back at Thanes home they found Sarenei waiting for them with a sturdy mule loaded with tools and supplies. Whats all this? Thane asked and waved at the loaded mule.
My Love. Sarenei said taking the northmans hands You are a brave man, but you can be rather foolish at times. You were probably thinking of grabbing your sword and rushing off to explore whatever dark hole you were awarded in the lottery. . . . But luckily you married me, and I went out this morning and bought you some equipment to take along. there is water, food, rope, shovels, a prybar, a block and tackle,a folding ladder, a lantern, and oil enough for an entire day. Did you get a good site in the lottery?

Thane grinned at his wife, remembering all the scrapes her level head had gotten them out of when they were travelling back to Wati from Absalom. I really am a lucky man. He thought to himself. We were assigned the Tomb of Akhentepi. Thane answered her We spoke to Namrut and he said Akhentepi was a general or something back before the plague so there is a good chance we will find something worthwhile. . . How is mother today?
Mother is having a good morning, she is at her loom. She said she thinks she will be able to finish that rug today. Sarenei replied Lets get out of the sun. Put the Mule in the shed while I get your friends some refreshment. Then I will help you put on your armor.
Thane did as he was bid, putting the mule in the small shed behind the house then entering through the back door. Sarenei helped his strap on his studded leather armor and arrange his weapons so they rode comfortably.
I am ready when ever you are. Thane said to the others when he came down the stairs girded with armor and weapons.

Tag everyone! If you all want to talk to the soothsayer we could easily run into her on the way back to Thanes home.

male Human Barbarian 2

Thane looked at the other members of the group and saw that they knew no more about the tomb of Akhentepi than he did. He stood frowning with his head bowed in thought for a moment. Namrut! He may know something about Akhentepi. He is a collector. I have worked for him before as a courier and he has done business with my father in law. He has a big house over by the gate into Morning Sun. Let's go pay him a visit. As Thane led the group through the streets of Midwife to Namrut's home he admitted there might be someone else that could tell them something about Akhentepi.
She is a fortune teller or something, her name is Usur-kau, she can usually be found around the golden lake, but she is crazy.
When they arrived at Namrut's home Thane knocked loudly on the door. After waiting a few minute with no response Thane knocked again louder than the first. A few moments later a thin shrewish woman with a kerchief around her head answered the door. What do you want? She hissed.
Go tell your Master that Thane Blackwolf, son-in- law of Khair Qeshyahar would greatly appreciate a moment of his time. Thane replied in a calm voice. The woman disappeared back inside leaving Thane and the others on the doorstep. Ten minutes later the door opened again, this time there was a tall thin Osirioni man wearing richly embroidered robes on the other side.
Thane! he said as he clasped the northman's hand. It is good to see you. Come in all of you. Namrut stood aside and waved the party in through the door. He closed it behind the last and then led the group to a richly appointed sitting room where the shrewish woman was laying out honey cakes and cool fruit juices. Namrut sat on a cushioned Divan and waved for his guests to seat themselves. Thane took a seat to Namrut's right hand.
I was so sorry to hear of Khair's death. He said to Thane as the others were seating themselves. He was a good man.
Yes he was. Thane replied nodding. Thea was so glad you came to the memorial. It ment a lot to her considering how much respect Khair had for you.
Master Namrut, my friends and I were wondering if you could tell us something about Akhentepi, and his tomb? We drew that site in the lottery this morning and we know nothing about it besides its location in the Necropolis. I can offer you first chance at any antiquities we recover in exchange for any information you can give us? What do you say?
diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
gonna need lots of aid another rolls on this one lol.

male Human Barbarian 2

Okay some folks are being really quiet. So I am just going to go and they can catch up. first stop, who the heck is Akhentepi?

local knowledge: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 to identify someone who would know more about the sites in the Necropolis who would be willing to talk to us, and remember any rumors I have heard about Ahkentepi and his tomb.

It is late I will write a better post tomorrow

male Human Barbarian 2

The Grave Guard isn't bad.

male Human Barbarian 2

yeah, I got nothing for a group name. sorry.

male Human Barbarian 2

Thane was pleased that Sarenei took his showing up with four guest with such good grace. to make up for it he helped her with the cooking. Something he normally did anyway. He cut up the ingredients according to her instructions. Thane's home was a modest two story stone house a few streets away from the market. Thane and his family's bedrooms were on the upper floor. The lower floor was one large room that was kitchen, living room, and dining room all in one, so Thane was able to continue discussing the lottery with the group while helping Sarenei with the food. The house's funishings are simple but well built. The dishes and cutlery are wooden and fired clay. They are good quality but inexpensive.
Thane's mother-in-law Thea had fallen ill shortly after the death of her husband a year before. The disease left her weak and she often tired quickly. That evening though was a good evening and she sat at her loom working on a rug while the meal was being prepares. Thea was gratified to have two priests of Pharasma in her home and greeted her son-in-laws new companions warmly. Thane makes it clear that the others should consider his home as their home, and that any who are in need of a place to stay that night are welcome to sleep in the main room if they wish.

several things are established during the discussions that evening.
1: Anything of value they find will be split six ways. Every member of the group will get an equal portion of the find. The sixth portion will be used to pay for any expenses the group has to pay during the search. Anything left from this portion will then be divided evenly among the group members.
2: Any undead encountered by the group will be destroyed if possible.
3: The group will do it's best not to damage any of the monuments in the necropolis, and if they need to disturb any remains during the search the remains will be handled by Naomi and Rubani to ensure that they are treated with the proper respect.
Anything else?

The next morning Thane left most of his weapons and armor at home. He reasoned there was no need to immediately rush off into the Necropolis once they received their site. They would have time to collect their gear and purchase any other equipment they would need before going into the Necropolis, so there was no need to lug around all that weight in the hot sun. He had only worn the weapons the day before to make himself appear mor formidable to potential employers.

When the group name was called Thane mounted the dais and waited while the acolytes drew the token identifying the groups site. Once he received the token he bowed his head respectfully to the high priestess and returned to the group.
We have been assigned the Tomb of Akhentepi. he said when he reached the group. It looks to be on the north east side of the Necropolis. Anyone know anything about it?
Tag all. I am going to get a donkey to take with us to carry our stuff and to carry any loot back out. What else do you think we need?

male Human Barbarian 2

Glad you are feeling better Naomi

It seems we all intend to be in the lottery tomorrow and are all in need of a group. We could stand here in front of the Mausoleum and discuss forming a group or we could go to my home. I don't live far, just a little north of the Sunburst Market. I am sure my wife will invite you all to share our evening meal. We can work out the details of our group in comfort. Thane waited for the others to agree, then led the group around the Golden lake and through the market. He stopped at several stalls in the market to purchase food items. Fruits and vegetables from one, loaves of flat bread from another, a small round of cheese, and a bottle of wine.

Sarenei will kill me if I show up with guests but nothing to feed them. he explained.

male Human Barbarian 2

waiting on Naomi. . . . .

male Human Barbarian 2

It really wouldn't be a good idea taking this one along. Thane said as he turned back to Naomi He has a lot of bad friends. Just the type that would let others go into the necropolis, run the risks, and do the work. Then rob them when they come out. And as drunk as he is he is more likely to hurt himself with that sword than anything else.

OOC: Tag Naomi. should we take the drunk along? He seems a little shady to me. Do you want us to mark things OOC like you are doing in your posts Fabian or is the blue lettering enough?

male Human Barbarian 2

knowledge local: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

No we don't want to sign you up for the tomb treasures. Thane says to the man in a cold voice. Not drunk as you are, and definately not knowing the company you keep. Why don't you turn around and stagger back the way you came.

male Human Barbarian 2

I am going to assume that Thane has at least seen the other local group members like Akbar, and Naomi.
Thane is dressed in loose robes like most of the local men wear. His studded leather armor is strapped on over the white inner robe, with the black outer robe worn over that. His head scarf is worn wrapped loosed around his neck and it is easy to see from his features that he is a northerner. He has another scarf wrapped around his waist as padding for his broad leather belt. A battleaxe hangs from the left side of his belt, balanced by a war hammer on the right. One of the curved daggers carried by the locals is thrust under the scarf in front. He carries a large northern style sword slung across his back.
Thane watches as the crowd slowly disperses as the groups register for the lottery in the morning. He had been hoping to find a group in need of an extra sword but hadn't found one this morning. Eventually there are just four others in the square before the Mausoleum besides himself. He recognizes one of the Halflings and the priestess of Pharasma but the others are strangers to him.

Naomi wrote:
"Hello, I was a little late to register, but they told me there would be more of us. I guess the Lady has fated us to be the last team. I am Naomi Zeitoun."

Hello priestess. Thane says in response to Naomi's greeting. My name is Thane. I have seen you in the Market place a few times. I came this morning looking to join one of the groups entering the lottery, but wasn't able to find a place. Since there are five of us left, maybe your lady has decided we should be a group. Thane says with a shrug. Isn't it a little strange for a priestess of Pharasma to be looking to plunder tombs?

Naomi wrote:
She nods toward Nakht Shepses, a holy symbol of Pharasma swinging with the motion. "Til yesterday I was a holy warrior under his command. He’s not very happy with me right now, but with the Necropolis opening I had to come. There are souls there who need shepherding to the Spire."

In that case you won't mind if I keep your share of any treasure we recover. Thane says with a grin at Naomi.

Tag All. So we need to form a group and pick a name and a leader. Also get any supplies we will need to plunder our assigned tomb. So tools and the like. I have a lantern, enough oil for 24 hours, and a crowbar. we may need a shovel or two, more rope, a block and tackle, and maybe some pack animals and mounts. what do you all think?
