BACKGROUND

A FLASH

POV of a fox, the most beautiful and radiant, hovering above looking down, eyes filled with motherly love. Her nine tails, a lustrous plume against starry night sky. Twelve other smaller foxes of different appearances prance about with envy.

A wolf’s maw growling and gaping wide…enveloping…then cold…and finally silent darkness.

of a “starseed” buried in the void of darkness sprouts. At first a spark...that grows brighter and brighter until...it is blinding...

Her eyes pop open. She slowly uncurls finding her cream-colored furred body cradling a mysterious silver star ball, cold to the touch. The Kanji “Tengoku No Zenko” (translated “He/She who hides the fire of the Heavens”) is scribbled on it in flawless calligraphy. She searches her mind for answers. Her only memories – those fragments of the visions she saw – and nothing beyond. Slowly, she rises to her feet, finding herself surrounded by trees.

She wanders aimlessly for hours until exhaustion bested her. While asleep, visions of the nine-tailed fox plague her. The fox would beckon her to follow her footsteps – the path, a foothold of stars spiraling upwards into the heavens.

Taking it literally, the next night, she scales a tree until she sees the night sky for the first time. Suddenly, revelation strikes her. The stars seem to speak to her. She knows exactly where she is and her survival instincts awakens.

Her sense of direction takes her north to a small town on the outskirts of the forest. She watches the furless ones from a distance. She finds herself understanding their language that came naturally. One day, she sees a beautiful Tien woman passing through. She admires her smooth porcelain skin. She looks at her own body and her soiled matted fur. Gross. She desires to be like the Tien woman. The furless people seem happy and it makes her sad to be alone.

The power of desire...

Then. A tingling sensation...

She blinks feeling a breeze against her skin. She looks down and sees a lithe furless body with porcelain smooth skin. Flustered, she uses her mystical ability to create a puddle of water as a mirror and gazes at her reflection. A face that resembles the Tien woman stares back at her. Excited, she begins to play with her new-found gift mimicking the appearance of people. But why can’t she get rid of that silver streak in her hair color? Until one day, she settles on an appearance of what she thought would reflect her soul. Satisfied, she inches forward, taking her first step towards becoming human.

Months go by...

...and she is accepted by the townfolk as a vagrant amnesiac who was traumatized by some unfortunate event. Good story she fabricated. She spends those times assimilating into human culture using the only name she knew – Zenko. Despite the kindness of the townfolk who became the closest thing to a family, something keeps reminding her she cannot stay forever. The more time passes, the more intense her spirit is wracked by cryptic visions of the nine-tailed fox. Her restless spirit has taken a toll on her body, and there is an unexplained longing to be among the stars, but how will she get there?

Only the stars can tell.

APPEARANCE

Zenko prefers to appear as petite human female of considerable beauty by Tien standards. Her features are reminiscent of a fox – narrow face, close set of almond shaped eyes and high cheekbones. She has fair porcelain skin, saucy gold eyes, and long straight raven colored hair with a silver streak on her widow’s peak.

As she grows in power, her number of tails will increase and her fur color and hair will ultimately change to snow white.

Zenko can almost always be found smiling and in good spirits, although there is a great deal of mischief behind her eyes.

PERSONALITY

Zenko enjoys being around humans as a result of imprinting on them. As a cunning creature, she has adapted herself to the ways of human society and uses her gift of eldritch beauty to her advantage. Her social skillset is a work in progress as she hasn’t developed much of an empathy with people because she doesn’t even know herself. For this reason, she remains guarded with a penchant for fast-talking herself out of questions about her past and trouble in general.

Zenko is an elitist feeling she is the highest bloodline of Kitsune, a celestial fox, closest to the Great Mother of the Kitsune race. She doesn’t get along well with other kitsune. Despite this, she is benelovent by nature and will rarely turn down aiding others in need. If she feels slighted by anyone, she doesn’t get upset, she gets even in a non violent way – catching the offender unaware through magical mind-pranks that has long lasting repercussions.

Zenko has an innate fear of canids (except foxes). This has something to do with the cause of death in her past life before her reincarnation as a starchild.

Zenko is an amnesiac who has no recollection of her past. The only macguffin to her pastlife is a dead star ball. For this reason, she is very emotionally attached to this object and terrified of losing this only key to her past.

Since learning of the Starstone, it is Zenko’s ultimate goal to one day take the Test of the Starstone.
