Favored Deities: Irori Tegid Darnin is the third son of a Chelaxian noble of some importance. Growing up in a noble's household afforded him many luxuries, from books to slaves, which, during his youth, he greatly enjoyed. Though his family treated their slaves well (for his parents were relatively good people who were trying to figure out how to live and get ahead while dealing with the current leadership), Tegid always enjoyed the close friendship of the slaves his age and the smiles of older ones. His parents, upon seeing his love of books, constantly purchased books to sate his love of reading. As he grew up Tegid always knew what would eventually be expected of him. While his oldest brother would inherit everything from his father and was being groomed to handle the family fortune, his second older brother had joined the military and he was expected to join the church of Asmodeus. Though Tegid did not want to disappoint his parents or humiliate or his family he did not want to serve Asmodeus, the god that he felt was responsible for so many terrible things. When his twelfth birthday approached Tegid was busy trying to figure out how to resolve his dilemma when he happened to meet an itinerant priest of Irori while haggling with a book seller over the authenticity of a particular volume of Pathfinder. Tegid returned daily to meet and learn from the priest, fascinated by the many tales and stories the priest had along with his incredible breadth of knowledge. Three months before his twelfth birthday, Tegid made his decision to become a follower of Irori and study his teachings. Knowing that the church of Asmodeus would accept acolytes from noble houses early he approached his parents and announced to them that he knew his duty and calling and so he would join the church and would be leaving the next day for a remote monastery to study at. Not having specified which church he intended to join, his parents assumed he meant the church of Asmodeus and gave him their blessing. When his father asked him what he would like to take with him as an early inheritance, Tegid asked for Galu, an old pack mule that had been with the family since his grandfather's time, and Darguk, a half-orc slave who could act as his bodyguard. Early the next morning Tegid left with Galu carrying his belongings and Darguk in tow. Not wanting to humiliate his family Tegid adopted his current name, Tegid Darnin, and went to study at a church of Irori in Taldor. While many priests of Irori would spend their time training, fighting, or practicing Tegid spent his time either in study or in the bazaars and local taverns, expanding his knowledge and listening to the many stories told by travelers and adventurers. By the time Tegid completed his studies and was officially ordained as a priest of Irori he had come to be quite respected by many at the temple and was offered his choice of churches or temples to server at. To the surprise of few Tegid chose to become an itinerant priest, in honor of the priest he had met years before in the book shop in Khorvosa. Tegid's travels have taken him to many locations, both wild and urban, and his knowledge has expanded greatly. His most recent trip took him to Bloodcove and the Mwangi Jungle where he hoped to start serious research on the jungle. Things were going well until he reached Whitebridge Station. For on his sixth day at the station, Galu and Darguk were killed and eaten by a band of jungle elves while he was investigating some ruins that he had found. Upon finding the remains of his companions Tegid drew his crossbow and made his way back to Whitebridge Station sensing that trouble was at hand... |
