About Taton

Taton was born in Riddleport, many years ago. Nevermind about how many. He is the eldest of his mother's five children, his father having long since died and two more suitors to his mother's affections having left him with bastard siblings of elven and orcish descent. Along with his twin Greskan, he spent his youth misbehaving in the streets of Riddleport before being caught up in a religious fervor upon hitting adolescence. One of his friends was a girl named Lil, a rather terrifying creature for a child to behold, but Taton being fearless and amicable he tried to make all sorts of friends. She was a Tiefling and her story is a rather good one to hear, but not the focus here. She knew things and could read people like a book, something that Taton didn't quite understand. The two were taken under the wing of the same... "entrepreneur" in their youth, and given to individuals looking for an improper time with those too young to know better.

Taton wasn't concerned. He was a young man, being lavished with gifts and affection from his elders. Occasioinally Greskan would tag along and while that sort of thing was rare, it was certainly lucrative. Sometimes they would have one stay with the client while another slipped off to acquire additional pay (in the form of theft, blackmail, or what have you). It was a good life while it lasted, but as tends to happen in Riddleport, eventually you cross the wrong person. While fleecing a mark, Greskan got a little too greedy and got caught. Greskan was jailed and wouldn't see the light for some time, but Taton's fate was perhaps arguably worse. The master of the house turned Taton over to the master of the crime ring, and Taton was sent to Zincher's Arena. He had started a pretty young boy, and wound up being fed to the grinder. His face was scarred, in time he lost an eye, before he was mercifully cast aside.

Still being young, but having only training in a few tasks that are not usable when you no longer have a pretty face, he had to find work where he could. He wound up at the temple of Calistria, the House of the Silken Veil, where he found a place that he could indulge himself. It wasn't just about the aspect of lust the goddess possessed, though that certainly piqued the interest of many a wide eyed young man, but it was more her aspects of trickery and revenge. He took revenge at the end of a blade from those who had wronged him, stole from the man who had caused the entire ordeal and then from his old master. His lust for blood and vengeance sated, he found himself rather at a loss for where to go next. Turning again to the church for help, he lost himself in a bevy of bodies and drugs before finally hitting literal rock bottom. He wound up under the devil's fork, serving time for trafficking, and it was there that he had a revelation.

Taton hadn't seen his brother in some time, had indeed forgotten his family in the haze of violence, pain, drugs, and relief, the vengeance and the all-consuming hatred he had once known. In jail though, he learned that his brother had perished, stabbed over a minor altercation. The man who had done it was also dead, this time by the state's justice, robbing Taton of the blood that was his right by vengeance and by Calistria. Anger surged through him once more, this time without any recourse to see it released. He worked hard, built himself up, and once out went once more to where he knew he belonged, the House of the Silken Veil. This time he didn't go there to press the flesh (pun completely intended) but rather to save others from a similar fate. It wasn't that he was trying to reform them, perish the thought. He just wanted to ensure business was transacted safely and responsibly. When everything goes well, he simply watches the gates and keeps out the rowdies, but when things go too far, you don't want to find Taton at your door.

These days he has only a few people he socializes with, a group that can handle a man of his visage is a precious gift. The trouble he personally has is that while they all mean well, they're idiots. Most of them follow different deities, which is ignorant enough, but they also seem to think that gambling isn't rigged and moreover that they might win this contest that Saul Vancaskerskin has rigged up. His childhood friend Lil has recently taken up residence at the House for protection, and while he'd rather be there ensuring her safety and that of the other lads and lasses, what could one night on the town hurt?
