Background:
Tanner punches things with his fists because it's fun! Just kidding. Tanner was born to an Orc father and a Human mother. He has trained since a young age as a "Warrior Priest" of Ragathiel to combat the Demon Horde. Dedicating his life to seeing the threat ended. His father was a mercenary who came to fight in the crusades because of good pay, a just cause, and the spoils of war (people are much more open for "bedtime" when death is always just another day away). His mother was a Paladin of Ragathiel, who had dedicated her life to fighting in the crusades. The two apparently hit it off, when his father, not realizing the lady to be a Paladin tried courting her. Luckily, she found him humorous and the two soon married (as much as "bedtime" is easy to get, marriage is just as easy when you may die on the morrow). Unfortunately, neither are currently still alive, both have since died in various skirmishes during the 4th Crusade, when Khorramzadeh's forces broke through the Wardstones momentarily. Tanner himself had been away, learning to fight at a temple of Ragathiel not so close to the Worldwound. Unfortunately, news of their deaths did not reach Tanner until the very end of the 4th Crusade. Leaving him unable to help fight at that time. The loss of his parents left Tanner devastated, upon hearing the news he left his training early to seek out demons for vengeance. Unfortunately, he ended up being captured by Demon Worshiping Cultists who tricked him into thinking he was tracking real Demons. Given his limited fighting experience and being alone, it was easy to acquire him. Once captured he was subjected to various experiments as the Cultists attempted to do unknown things for clearly nefarious purposes. During his time there, they set him (and possibly others) up for a particularly powerful ritual something weird happened and instead of what was supposed to happen, the energies involved became absorbed into Tanner. The cultists themselves freaked out at the unexpected results and a small internal uprising happened among-st them, during which Tanner and his fellow captives used the chaos to escape. Once they made it back to safety they hid what had happened to them from the locals but did their best to reveal the location of the cultist hideout. Unfortunately by the time anyone who was willing to listen went to investigate, whatever cultists were there had left. Following his escape, Tanner began to feel weird feelings that came about when angered, as if a strange magic pulsed in him. The energies only filled his rage at the loss of his parents and at the nefarious schemes the cultists had tried to subject him to. Unable to focus enough to continue his priest training for the moment, and worried about what the energies were doing to him Tanner struck off and left Kenabris following the end of the 4th Crusade. Unfortunately he was unable to find anyone who could explain what might have happened to him, and the erratic energies in his body made him prone to bursts of violence. Not wanting to hurt anyone, and angry at his own weakness, he sought a place where he might find peace. Eventually he found himself in the Mwangi Expanse, a place seperated from civilization, one where he could live and train without fear of the energies within him. During his stay there he came to understand and respect the powerful creatures that resided in the area, some of nature's most powerful creatures, Dinosaurs and Giants. It was here that a certain form of peace came to him. The energies in his body were still erratic and left him to bouts of fury but in the expanse of wilderness it was less of a problem then it would be in civilization. For 7 years he resided in the Mwangi Expanse. During his stay there he began to seek to improve upon his priest training, but also came to be in tune with nature and with the great creatures which roamed the expanse. Specifically he focused on blending his natural unarmed based fighting style with the strength and ferocity of giants, which turned out to be a good way to release the anger in his heart. Many times did he come close to losing his life to creatures who were many times more capable than he, but luck, divine favor, and sheer force of will has seen him to be alive today. Recently he started to notice that for reasons unknown to him the energies in him have changed. The fury against demon-kind was still there, but the energies themselves seemed more controlled, less erratic, as well was his anger. Eventually, driven by his burning desire to make himself a part of the war against the Demons and desire to see old friends, he decided to return to Kanebres. Now back he hopes to join up with the Crusaders, hoping to honor his father and mother's death, and stand guard against the next incursion the Demon hordes will surely make. Tanner is a devoted servant of Ragathiel, having strong ties to him due to influence from his mother. While no Cleric, as he tends to focus more on war than many standard Clergy do, he is nonetheless somewhat well versed in the Empyreal Lord's tenants and of strong enough faith to be granted magic. Since the death of his parents, Tanner has focused more on the Rage in his heart and harnessed additional powers from Ragathiel that aid him on the field of combat, in particular against evil creatures.
Appearance and Personality:
Tanner is a mighty and fearsome looking fellow. He stands at 6'3 and weights in at 194 lbs. He has greenish skin, his Orcish ancestry showing strong from his father gives him a fearsome looking appearance. Along his body he has many tattoo's, several of which are dedicated to Ragathiel, others to his parents, some of giants and dinosaurs, and others representative of his own goals in seeing an end to the Demonic Horde. He has long brown hair, he use to keep it cut short but his time in the expanse caused him to stop carrying about it as much. The hair is matched by brownish/green eyes. He wears a red and silver monk robes with a hanging wooden symbol of a sword crossed with wings across his neck. The rest of his garb is simple attire, eschewing more restricting and gaudy clothing in favor of being light, mobile, and practical. Personality wise Tanner is dedicated through both blood, circumstance, and faith in seeing the Demon Horde pushed back to the pits of the Abyss itself. Though, despite this burning fervor in his heart, he is still a fairly friendly fella, if not the most well-spoken of people. Years of training in the temple of Ragathiel, followed by many more years surviving in the Mwangi Expanse has left him with not as much social exposure as one might usually have. This is not to say he is crude or anti-social, just that such situations put him in a place where he is not well adjusted for. When not training or fighting, he spends his time either visiting taverns and paying homage at a small temple of Ragathiel. Occasionally he also visits temples of Iomadae, given their stronger presence in the area and the like-minded nature crusaders of Iomadae share with him, he fits in well among their ranks.
Planned Progression/Role:
I plan on serving on the front lines, bringing the beats to the opponents with Tanner's fists of fury. Tanner will also be able to serve as a Secondary Divine Caster with both Druid and Warpriest casting able to augment him (though many spells will likely focus on Buffs, I plan to include Utility, BF Control, and a few blasts for fun). Mythic is probably going to be Champion Dual Pathed with Hierophant. Focus will be on the Champion side but I could see Tanner nabbing a few of the Hierophant abilities here and there. I'm thinking he will probably go Druid 19 with a 1 level dip into Demonslayer Ranger, grabbing the Shapeshifting Hunter feat to get full Favored Enemy progression, and Warpriest 20. Feats and progression will be on the Martial side of things, high strength, with Wisdom+Con boosts when necessary. Depending on party makeup though I could focus a little bit more on the Divine Casting side if needed (though that would be only if necessary). Long term plan:
The Ranger dip will give me Knowledge Planes which I plan on focusing on, both for flavor and mechanical reasons. Flavor for the Ranger dip is the focus on learning about Demons, their weaknesses, and such (ie: Knowledge+Favored Enemy). Right now it doesn't make sense to me for the Ranger dip yet just because I want it to represent him having some experience with Evil Outsiders first. Skills wise I will try and focus on party weaknesses. Will likely be able to help with: Sense Motive, Perception, Knowledge Planes (eventually), Intimidate and from there it will kind of depend on party needs and how I see the character progressing. It might seem kind of weird to go with two 3/4 BAB classes in a Gestalt game but I'm fairly confident that between the Goliath Druid features and the Warpriest features he will be quite formidable in melee (ranged will be another story... I guess I can throw rocks and shurikens at things...). But with eventually getting Giant Form+Flurry w/ Monk unarmed damage, Warpriest buffs, Some Rage, Favored Enemy, and Champion path, I think Tanner could serve in that capacity well while still bringing a lot of spell-casting utility to the party. Oh and the Rage domain represents his inert anger at the demons for the loss of his parents (if that wasn't obvious). Also because Raging Giant... I mean, come on.
About Me:
I'm just some dude who loves Pathfinder and RPG's in general. I love a game/medium that tells a compelling story. In real life I'm a big environmentalist, like to do research, read, and drink. I also happen to have a passion for dinosaurs and chess. I'm a pretty consistent poster, I'm good about getting in 1 post a day, more if needed for things like combat and when the game is moving along. The concept for this character was originally from Attack on Titan. The idea of a guy who lost a lot in his life to this horrible beasts (Demons) and then learns to eventually transform into a powerful beast himself (Giants, Trolls, Dinosaurs) to combat them while using his fists. Tanner is not meant to be a direct rip-off of Eren, but to say he didn't take a lot of inspiration from Eren would be lying. As far as my interest in this game goes, basically Wrath is the one AP I've been really, really wanting to play. I really like Paizo's AP's in general, but Wrath is pretty much the one that takes the cake (in terms of interest level) for me. Anyways, I hope you will strongly consider my application. I would absolutely love to get to go on this journey with you. As it is, I know you have a lot of applications with many strong candidates, so I wish you much luck in putting together a fun and interesting party for the campaign regardless if you select me or not. Cheers!
