After the first round you have no way to get sneak attack so if you don't win initiative...

wraith i think you misunderstand what hes saying...

using invisibility, eithe a ring or a potion, or rouge tricks converted into ninja tricks, you can do that every round if you were able to. i played a character like that in pfs, but i used shocking grasp. i like it and it did quite a bit of damage.

bomanz i think you misunderstand what most of the people are talking about.

first off what is a "front liner"? what does that term mean, lets set defined peramiters as to what that means.

i think a front liner is a character that can be in melee with a NPC and hold its own, atleast semi well. its not about armor class or DPR, but more about how well they can mitigate damage and harm the enemy.

now assuming my definition of a "front liner" is the same as other posters, then i agree monks are the weakest melee character. for many reason that have been stated in past threads. id be willing to bet MA or dabbler would be willing to post links for those short commings.

are they tanks, no

are they DPR machines, no

are the CMB masters,no

what are they? well we know they are a melee class and have no real team support, so we cant even lump them in with bards or rogues.

what the heck are they?

well... i can make a grapple master, that sucks at everything else.
i can make a trip master, that sucks at everything else.
i can make an archer, that sucks at everything else
i can make a mounted character, that sucks at everything else...

i mean they either have no focus (a core monk) or they are TOO FOCUSED because of an archetype that removes key abilities for cool narrowminded abilities.

now this isnt to say you cant make a cool monk, just that it will suck compared to other classes like a bard or barbarian.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Bruce Lee was not exactly known for not being CUT LIKE A GOD.

High strength is the way to go for monks. Saves you having to invest in dex and Weapon Finesse.

22 strength is not just cut like a god, it's seven feet tall and built like a brick privy.

Bruce Lee ..., strength he was a 16, tops.

bruce lee was more of a 12 strength and he was a juicer, true story.

If they "fixed" the monk with a single magic item release, I would still consider that a problem. No class in the game should be entirely dependent on an item to "function", least of all the monk.

doesnt this seem like a contradiction? right now a monk needs to have a monk robe and AOMF to be "on par" with other classes... so why would adding one more make a difference?

cackle is a move action equivelent, so you can 2x cackle every round and stack rounds on someone for the rest of the fight. witches are the bane of GMs, so much extra work.

touch ac is non physical armor bonuses, dex deflection luck ect..

flat footed is all physical armor bonuses, armor, shields, natural armor ect..

cmd is for non damaging attacks like trip, overrun, grapple, bull rush ect...

cmd is your defense against them.

and no you do not have SR (spell resistance)

you should have 11 hp + favored bonus, if you chose the hit point.

you get one more trait
and dont get a composite bow at level 1, its not worth the extra cash. when you have the money for a master work MCLB (mighty composite long bow) +2 strength (600g).

sweet, now i can make my gm cry with a con stacked barbarian with wands of fast healing and cure serious wounds.

its a very grey area right now. and i have a sneaking feeling like paizo will jump on the forums soon telling us that it doesnt work the way we thought... like monks lol

yes, this is why it is an orc only archetype, and absolutly banned in PFS. its just about the greatest caster archetype created by paizo.

and add in raging vitality for +2 more con. also if you really wanted to get what ever you were trying to hex, cast moment of greatness before. for a +12 to con while raging instead of just +6.

i like the one that gives +1 to saves vrs devine magic, and either reactonary for +2 inititive or +2 caster level, magical lienage i think.

it looks good. you need to get a melee weapon, whether it be a dagger or a great sword, you will eventually need a melee weapon.

i havent had to swim once in PFS so i would change swim to climb. item creation doesnt exsist in PFS so drop craft and keep profession architect.

im also pretty sure rich parents is not allowed for traits, but i could be wrong about that.

Yeah, 3.5. Though it's entirely probable that we weren't the very best we could be, all of us were experienced players and we did coordinate our crafting. We just happened to hit something that was horrifically bad for us: flying, high SR, lots of AoE damage as I recall.

Most of us weren't experienced cleric players, which definitely impacted things.

I have to vote inexperience, too. High SR doesn't protect anyone from summoned monsters, and Summon Monster is the Swiss Army Chainsaw of cleric spells. With four 12th-level 3.5 clerics, you've got 12+4 5th and 8+4 6th level spells, and the 3.5 Summon Monster V can bring in, for example, a celestial griffon to chase your flying foe.

screw a griffon a summon monster v in pathfinder can summon a wind dijin or a low level angle.

In most games that I play in, the player gets two traits, they have to be different styles, so no 2 combat trait. In the adventure paths, u generally get 1 trait from the adventure path, and one trait from the APG or trait guide (they are the same thing).

Do you think that two traits are the equivalant to a feat? And if they are would that then mean that you loose a feat? Traits seem to powerful to just get them for free.

Thanks again

I am new to the pathfinder game, and I was wondering if stoy-building traits, not racial traits, take up a feat slot or if they are an additional feature added onto your character. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
