Styvanus' arm ached beneath the weight of his shield as he stared down the great white beast. He stole a backward glance over his shoulder at the trembling image of Gwynn. She was afraid, that much was clear, but here she was still fighting. Here they all were, still fighting.

His head snapped back around to focus on the owl-bear, and suddenly the shield felt nearly weightless again. He raised it high above his head with his left arm and snapped it down, honing in again on the beak where he had struck before. He braced against the impact as the metallic clang resounded against the clack of the creature's beak straining beneath the force. Styvanus immediately followed with an uppercut from his off hand right under the owl-bear's gaping maw. Styvanus couldn't help but wince and wonder if the swing had hurt his knuckles more than it's target. Hopping back and landing on his heels, The Captain readied his shield.

Sorry again for the silence, Anyone else notice here in the States we've been gripped by the Reign of Winter?

The cold sucks, haha.

But I'm ready to get back into the swing of things here, and I'm eager to get a post written when Styv is up again.

"Teladon" Styvanus mouthed wordlessly as he met eyes with the elf who had been nameless to him as of yet. A smile crept upon the man's wind-kissed face and he patted Rasso on his equal-parts furry and spiny back as he made his way to the portal." I think he's warming up to us, Keep him company, we're right behind you." He assured Rasso.

The Captain too took a step towards the portal before being halted by his fellow Knight-Captain. Gwynn's words were met with a a concerned look from Styvanus. "Gwynn.." He begins, his tone as soft as the snow flakes drifting in the air. Before he can formulate a response, he finds himself flanked by Marcellano, Fenyx, and Ordrud. Although he can see the merit in Gwynn wanting to tend to the villagers, he agrees overall with the trio's sentiment.

"Easy now killer," He begins at Marcellano." I'm not ready to give up command just yet...But we all have a role to play in this." He states, his words directed at all who would listen.

" We all have a job to do. Every one of us here have been through enough hell for an entire tour but we aren't done, not by a long shot. Every man, woman, and child has a responsibility to step up and help one another get through this damnable cold. That's from Almas to us to every soul on Golarion!" He snaps out the words, before his gaze turns soft and looks back to his fellow Andoran. " You are strong enough." He states assuredly."As are Dann and the survivors of Falcon's Hollow. Andoran was founded on the principles of Independence. We all must stand to our feet at times and when those at the lodge realize we won't be making an immediate round trip Dann will have the strength of will to lead the hike back to the ship." He states, readying himself for whatever was on the other side of the portal.

" And Fenyx is right, the entire world is working to stop this thing, and we're a big part of that. We must stand together, or we'll fall separately." He finishes, practically pleading with Gwynn. Swept up in the moment and the desperation of the environment, Captain Rozier pulled his fellow Captain into a tight embrace and firmly planted his lips upon hers. Despite the chill across their skin and the snow upon the land, there was a moment of blissful warmth in the kiss and Styvanus was happy to linger in that embrace for several all-too-brief moments.

Stepping back and regaining the posture of a Captain, he smiled knowingly."We can do this. We must do this." The words resounded with a divine calm.

A moment later, The Captain had taken the step through the portal and was gone from sight.

Alright hey guys got a post up in gameplay, The exact details of Styv's vision will likely come through in flashbacks as we progress through the story and he progresses as a paladin.

Rob, is the official ruling no Ranged trip with that shield?

I'll likely trade out the limitless range path ability for display of charisma I'm thinking.

Styv: The Great Diplomat!

Also, Talavuc, Ar'Zarrcal, Great to see the both of you!

Styvanus was indeed content to lay still for a moment. The cold of the compacted snow beneath his body hadn't went away, but the Captain found a new-found warmth from remnants of the surge of energy that came before.

"Just another moment's rest." he heard himself think, but the words were distant and small, as if the reflections of a fleeting memory. These were the same words he spoke to his father in the early hours of the dawn as a child, pleading for a momentary reprieve before the day full of soot and heat assisting his father at the smithy.

Time and time again his father would reply the same. "Good men aren't born, they are made. And just like any thing else, they are made through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that aim, same as any other.." The words were louder than his first thought, and much to his surprise, he realized he had said his father's words aloud.

Styvanus laid in the snow and chuckled as Gwynn gave him an odd look at his declaration, and he rose swiftly to his feet to denounce any thinking that he was out of commission. His eyes dart around to take in the changes, the most notable of which are the Elf, and the creature that was his friend Rasso. " On the contrary," The Captain begins with a smile. " I've never felt better."

Indeed the Captain seemed to have a new-found radiance after being touched by the energy of the rider. He seemed to move almost with divine grace. "I spoke with Talmandor." He stated calmly, looking mostly towards Gwynn and Rasso. " When whatever just happened...happened, he made himself known to me." He could hardly contain the excitement in his voice, but he made every effort to maintain his composure." I'm not sure what it all means," He admitted reluctantly." But I know that he'll have an eye on our efforts."

"Is everyone alright?...What's our next step?" He changes the subject, attempting to get the team on the right track.

Very interesting Crusty, I like it, and I've been dying to get the returning property on that shield since the day I decided to go with the character concept!

I like it overall I think...I should be able to get up a post detailing his transformation tomorrow afternoon in the gameplay thread.

I'll try to get the alias updated tonight as far as crunch.

And yeah, who wants to carry the tent? :P I guess he could technically cast off the gauntlets as well since he has the unarmed strike damage.

Crusty, I'd be willing to see a mock up if you have the time to do so..

I believe that Rob did mention allowing close weapons to be used by the Brawler somewhere earlier in the thread.

I like the idea of the Paladin however, as Styvanus is morally righteous already. A vision from Talmandor seals the deal, and I would like him to head into the Steal Falcon PrC. The theme and flavor of it all is all too good to pass up.

And yeah, I'm stuck on marshall because Styv at his heart is a Captain. Or The Captain. and abilities like Advance are such a perfect fit. Display of Charisma would be interesting for those moments when he absolutely needs to make a deal/ intimidate an opponent, that sort of thing.

I appreciate the help guys, and It really is a draining job, I'm glad you guys can understand. :P

Still floating around here guys...

Just having a really hard time deciding where to go with Styv. Parts of me want to rebuild him as a paladin, or I even considered a oracle of Battle. That would also give us a little more healing ability with cure spells.

Idk, I really want him to take the Marshall path.

If on the off chance I go with oracle of battle, Heirophant or a dual path with Marshall and Heirophant would likely be the best.

I also considered dual path Champion/Marshall, Eventually heading towards the Steel Falcon PrC...

Kicking around this idea of Styvanus having a vision/blessing of Talmondor in his transformation into a mythic character.

Any thoughts, comments? I could use some direction folks, haha.

--On top of all of that I'm in a similar situation to Rob's as far as work goes for this month. I take calls for a living and call volumes are through the roof for this month, so I'll be doing some overtime here and there and generally being more sapped of energy than usual when I do get manage to get home.

As a head's up, I'm moving into a new apartment sometime this week, So my posting will likely be minimal for the remainder of the busy holiday week.

still debating direction. I'm leaning towards the Marshall path but perhaps dual path into Guardian or Champion.

As far as base classes, I had considered a Paladin of some sort..or maybe a freebooter ranger(before moving on elsewhere after 6th level)

Anyway, I'll poke in when possible.

Have a good holiday folks!

you actually only ever need to spend three points on Legendary Item - the first time you do so, you gain 1-3 points depending on your tier (If you take it at Tier 1, you gain two points when you ascend to tiers 2 and 3), and then a second time at tier 4-6. Since we're only going to Tier 5, you only ever need to take it twice.

As for me, I'm considering either Guardian, Champion, or Trickster. Likely one of the two latter. I'm considering going Trapper Ranger in place of one level of Fighter, so we can have some trapfinding ability - what do you guys think on that? I'd go Musket Master Gunslinger from then on, and be more offensive than I am now.

Mythic Rapid Shot will be taken, as well. 3 shots per round? Yes please! ;)

Sounds rad, I'd approve of the dip into trapper.

I'm thinking if I stick with fighter then I'll go the route of Guardian mythic path.

I'm considering a rebuild of Styv to take him in the direction of the Marshall also.

My knowledge of all things Mythic is minimal however so any advice on the subject is welcome.

Hmm, I might consider a rebuild of Styv, But I'm not certain how I might go about it.

It might be fun to approach his build from a more tactical/support/leadership angle.

Then again maybe I'll just keep going with Fighter and make due, Though even with a +3 to my shield damage for close combat, Styv's throwing shield has a hard time keeping pace in melee damage with Ordrud and Rasso.

Hmmm

Styvanus grins as the plan comes together, but quickly regains a stoic expression. He was ever wary of assumptions, and he would be a fool to believe Teb was done already. Stepping forward behind the stunned and screaming troll, Styvanus laid the shield into the small of the monster's back and delivered kick to the back of it's knobby knees.

He felt Teb's tendons strain under his bootheel."Timber." He thought to himself.

Styv's shield reverberated with the force of the maneuver as he sought to bring the troll to it's knees in it's weakened condition.

The troll didn't surprise the Captain. He had expected it to be around every turn since they first learned of the creature's existence. Styvanus' eyes were drawn to the crimson flecks on the pure white snow near their dwarven companion. This would be a defensive battle, and so with a roll of his shoulder he slid the shield down his arm and donned his eagle-emblazoned escutcheon.

He moved forward to form a line around Teb. Styv held his shield up high and banged his gauntlet against it, making a makeshift gong."You picked the wrong fight troll!" The captain practically spat the words out."You'll be nothing but ashes once we're done with you."

Styvanus readies the cold iron spear of Andis' and leads with it's tip out the door of the yurt before he was. "We're not getting anything accomplished in this mess. We press forward to the portal. Keep your eyes peeled, the snow's thick out there."

He turns to the Chelish marine." Kain, I need you on bodyguard duty for Fenyx. Keep him safe, don't let him get lost. Can you handle that?" He inquires, commanding, but without any undertone of condescending in the Captain's steady voice. " It might be a good idea to secure a bit of that rope around each of your waists with a bit of slack as a lifeline."

He waves his hand in front of Fenyx to get the wizard's attention. "Stay.Close." He mouths the words slowly, Pointing to Kain and then holding up an interlaced pointer and middle finger to reinforce the sentiment. Once Fenyx has shown some sign of understanding, He pats the dark man on the shoulder and prepares for the cold just outside of the shelter.

"Let's move team."

  • Our troll is out there somewhere, since we're in his yurt, right?

  • From a slightly meta-gameish stand point; It would be nice to level before facing off against that troll. Maybe if we seek out and finish off the fey we could attain that goal.

  • Anyone else feeling like we're getting sucked through that portal, ultimately?

it's been a little quiet lately( Styv had a quiet period himself, being unconscious and all of that). Everyone still okay out there? It's been a minute since Ar'Z has posted, unless I'm just overlooking things.

Styvanus readies himself behind his shield and moves forward, the eagle-emblazoned steel slicing through the wintery winds. The scarf over the lower part of his face and neck was stark white with snow. " Gwynn, stay close." He commands, but the care in his voice means it comes out sounding little like an actual command. Gwynn's preferred method of blazing barrels would be entirely useless here, and she hadn't been the idea of strength in their travels. He would keep a close eye on his fellow fair haired Andoran.

"Towards the portal, FORWARD!!!" He commands with authority, his voice doing all that it can to project against the howling air. It was clear this was the last leg of their journey to the portal. The snow obscured vision and at least closer to the central light there would be a visual point of reference. Now was their last stand, they must not fail.

Styvanus stops beside Ordrud and follows his lead in pulling a vial from his pack. He shivers and nearly drops the container, but hoped that none noticed. The teams proximity to the wintery portal would push all of them to the their limits, and the Captain had no intention of allowing himself to succumb to the cold. His team needed him.

He popped open the vial and soaked the thick potion, instantly feeling a measure of comfort amidst the shrieking cold.

Styvanus nods and pulls his scarf up tight across his chin and nose. The team had came to an eerie silence. This was what they had came for, and now the moment was at hand. It seemed to stun the group into a momentary stupor and even the Captain found himself caught up in the same fascination with the whirling white powder beyond them. A visible cloud of the Andoran's breath billows upward from where it permeates through the scarf. A moment later comes Styv's muffled but clear order."Onward."

So consensus seems to be we descend on the portal right?

This game keeps me on the edge of my seat, and it's a pleasure to be apart of. Thanks all!

As to Styv's orders, I'm thinking we'll descend into the valley to get a closer look at the portal. Admittedly I'm still not sure what we are going to do to actually stop the portal, but I guess we'll figure it out. I mean, when all you have is a shield...

Any opinions to what our course of action should be guys?

I'll get a post up after work (roughly 1 am EST)or around noon tomorrow.

Styvanus turns his head as the dwarf goes about his gruesome work. Even though he couldn't see Ar'Zarrcal's face, the tension hung in the air like a thick blanket of fog. He turned to see Fenyx accept the inky heart, and the flick of the necromancer's eyes towards Styvanus brought a chill to the back of his neck. He perked his head to one side at the stream of indecipherable language but did his best to dismiss his worrying.

He took Fenyx's words in common as confirmation enough."Alright. We Move."

It is with some sense of remorse that Styv responds."Aye, put it out of it's misery." He ponders the latter question for a moment."I'll have to deter that judgement to the rest of the team Ar'Z. To be honest, I know nothing about these ruins. Does it warrant a more thorough investigation?"

Styvanus watched the treeline with bated breath, his ears jumping slightly at each breaking branch and steady footfall. A sense of relief washes over him as he sees Gwynn emerge into the clearing. He meets her half way and looks past her for a few moments as though he expected some other threat to have followed the Eagle-Knight and the mink.

"It's okay." He says reassuringly, hearing the anxiety in Talavuc's admission of defeat.

He had half-expected to lose their guide from the onset, whether it was because of the fey's frailty or his predisposition to retreat, as such, he had taken time while they marched to take mental notes of their path thus far, and a perceptive eye noticed the signs of the eye of the storm ahead of them.

He turned and raised his arm straight in front of him, his pointer finger fully extended."This Way." He instructed, hefting his pack and moving forward, expecting his team to fall in line.

Styvanus lets out a sigh of relief as he sees his team gathering. The mastiff had fell and none of his companions had, it was a success. He nods to Talavuc."Ordrud and our Elven friend could use some tending to...I believe the rest of us made it out unscathed." He directs the winter druid and turns to see his Andoran allies returning. He gives Rasso a warm smile" Rasso we could hear those big teeth of yours chattering from a mile away, I'm just thankful you got 'em under control." He gives his merman friend a playful jab to make sure he knows that the comment was lighthearted.

He steps in closer to Gwynn and places a hand on her shoulder."Chin up Captain, you've no reason to hang your head." He locks eyes with her reassuringly before turning his attention to the rest of the group.

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to perform one's duty in the face of that fear. Our enemy will attack us from every angle, including our minds. Be aware of this, know that you will be sure to face even more fearsome foes, but you will not stand alone." He declares, hefting the spear in the air as a hurrah.

Two things still trouble him. He sees the rune-scarred dwarf go to work on the mastiff with his healer's tools, and he doesn't see Shor's guiding light amidst the high tree branches.
" Ar'z...What are you doing?...And has anyone seen our fey guide?"

Styvanus waits for an attack that never comes, at least not yet, and not in the fog where he had expected. The Captain didn't have time to think amidst the action, but if he had, his thoughts would be criticism for the lack of teamwork, and littered with expletives.

Seconds later the gleaming tip of the cold iron spear emerges from the fog, followed closely by Styv's scowling face. He sees the condition that the masked elf's arm is in and moves in his direction. He hardly trusted his aim with the spear, it wasn't his weapon of choice, so instead he focused on a series of jabs where the mastiff might be, hoping to keep the beast occupied.
