Liberty's Edge

Thank you, every one.

Liberty's Edge

(This is a news letter that was posted in the town square of my pc's capital city regarding the rather humorous events that happened when the pcs decided to hold a winter solstice festival honoring both Desna and Erastil. I equated this to trying to cram a wandering band of hippies into the same space as the Amish.)

Insanity overtook the town last night at the Winter Solstice Festival. The good folk of Erastil gathered along the river bank yesterday for a traditional feast in honor of Old Dead-Eye when the feast was joined by a traveling Varisian caravan. The Varisians brought fourth a gift that was not well received by the men and women of Erastil. They unloaded chests, that the townsfolk mistook for food, only to unleash a plague of butterflies. While this display was indeed dazzling to the eye, many found that their food was a little less appetizing when covered with colorful insects; however the noble Cheif Sootscale and his kobold folk only seemed enticed by the additives to their feast. Moments of solemn prayer were interrupted by loud music, dancing, and the burning of questionable enchanted herbs. Things only escalated when our great Dwarven general, Nizbin, was seen running and screaming naked through town. Nizbin was subdued and taken home, where he could still be heard screaming, by Sir Akiros. The royal council gathered at this residence to discuss further plans regarding the festival. King Lucious assures to the people that there will be no unrest next year as the festivals will be held on separate ends of the river bank.

I'm on the second book so far and the pcs had just made it through their first year of ruling. They sent their diplomat and master spy to neighboring Mivon to set up a network of trade. The king of Mivon (who's name I don't have on me at the time) was a little surprised to find out about his new neighbors despite his vast information network. After having the pcs fill out several forms about their kingdom(inquiring about population, resources, and borders) the former sword lord decided that the new kingdom may be a useful tool against Pitax and decided to trade his kingdom's eels for surplus silver as well as share some sensitive information on Pitax's activity to the west. (No major spoilers were given about Fort Drelev in the third book but they were warned early on that Pitax is an aggressive kingdom that Mivon has fought against in the past.)

With politics aside, will this trade have any effect on the kingdom's economy? I understand each resource adds +1 to a kingdom's economy so that's what I've been doing for the time being.

(Edit) I couldn't find if this topic had been brought up already so I'm sorry if I'm reintroducing something that had already been resolved.

A random creepy event I had happen in a village that the pc's settled at the candlemere tower caught them off guard. A bewildering adamantine statue appeared in the town square one winter night on a full moon. Nobody saw who or what put it there but there were no footprints in the surrounding snow. The statue depicted a tall thin humanoid adorned(or perhaps mummified) with strange beads that would cast an unsettling teal glow(similar to Christmas lights.)For three days, it lingered with the eyes of its oval shaped skull fixed on the door of the crazy cat lady in town. Villagers who touched it would turn around and walk home remembering nothing of their previous action and often repeating the cycle again and again. After the third night, it vanished without a trace. The lady's cats were never seen again. However, on the nights of the winter's full moons, all sources of light emit a faint teal glow. This glow is accompanied by the sounds of lost hungry cats.

I thought it would be fun to hear what other gm's did with Candlemere Tower to creep their pcs out.

Sorry if this was already asked, but I have a question about settling the sootscale caverns hex in area Y of book 31. The pc's made an alliance with chief sootscale while exploring so the kobolds are still living there. When the pc's claim the hex, should they annex the kobolds like a town? Or are kobolds too proud to submit themselves to the rule of "big folk?" Furthermore, would this create any additional unrest due to racial tensions if the sootscale kobolds try to assimilate into a primarily human population?

Thanks guys. Yeah, I would have had Kressle talk to the staglord directly but he would have most likely been in a drunken stupor. She talked to Akiros who probably wouldnt have told any one and will volunteer for guard duty as much as he can to let the pc's in with no question.

One night, I had the fairy dragon tie the ranger's bell to the dwarf warrior's codpiece. The dwarf found this amusing and to this day refuses to remove it preferring to antagonize foes with a pelvic thrust, much to the other pc's disgust.

When our bard figured out that the tricks were played by the fey, he dug a hole and lined it with powdered cold iron. Seeing as how the fairy dragon isn't exactly of the fey subtype, he was able to move right past this and pull the old "dip the fingers in cold water as the haughty biggins sleep."
Unfortuanately, our bard happened to be a cold blooded Vishkanya. This accidentally put the snake man into a hibernation due to hypothermia. Perlivash was so upset about his miscalculation. When he appears, he will come with a bottle of fey wine. (this will cause non fey to hallucinate and warp into strange forms such as growing extra arms, leaves, or butterfly wings.)

Tig left a similar item, called scrug, in the ranger's inventory. Scrug is a homebrewed drug that I have in my campaigns to mess with the party. It is a faintly glowing twig. If one stares at it for too long, it has roughly the same effects I listed for fey wine. But if you guys want, I can make a write up for the mystical scrug for other game masters looking to give their players a bewildering and fun session.

Alright. I have two questions. One regarding Kressle in this chapter and the other regarding a possible dilemma as far as producing an heir later on.

So I know that Kressle is supposed to flee for the stag lords fortress at 5 hp and thus isn't expected to escape. In my game, however, she ended up escaping after:
1. Chasing the bard off into the woods until he managed to hide.
2.Coming back to camp to find all her men dead.
3. Delivering a nasty critical hit on the party's inquisitor(nearly killing him)and
4. Stealing a horse to make her escape.
My question is: What am I supposed to do with her after she gets to the staglord's fort. I inevitably had her gather some more men and ambush the pcs at the river crossing where the inquisitor got his revenge with a greatsword through her skull. But my dilemma here is: How does her escape affect the option of infiltration at the staglord's fort? For now, I had her describe three of the four pc's to Akiros. But if any one has some insight as to how this plays out before they reach this area.

Also, I have a question regarding the possible union of a Kitsune(fox folk) and a vishkanya(snake person). Could they produce offspring? If so, would it be some mutant foxy snake? And would this produce any unrest?

Wilhelm Davidson: CG Andoran Cavalier with a slightly skewed perception on valor and chivalry. He used to be an Andoran farm boy who was to be sent to study magic in Absolom. However, when he flunked out in his first year, he chose not to return home. Wilhelm was inspired by tales he had read of the knights of Medev and became squired to a cavalier who had seen the perils of the world wound. Their travels led them to Sandpoint where his teacher chose to settle down and live with his old love interest: Koya. Wilhelm was not content with staying in Sandpoint and had worked up a reputation as kind of a trouble-maker and notorious drunk. In the start of the adventure, he had worked up an immeasurable tab at the golden dragon inn. Ammeiko, whom Wilhelm had befriended, sent him along with the party to work off his tab.

Hateau: Wilhelm's stubborn Bullheadedness is matched only by one other in the party: The psychotic pansexual tengu playboy who competes for glory and women. The Tengu Alchemist is named Hateau. He is a wealthy polygamist whom had had his accounts frozen when his wives found out about eachother. Hateau wanted to escape Sandpoint and did so by joining a caravan bound for far away lands.

Ambaila: An Elven Witch and long time friend of Koya's mother. He has lived in Sandpoint for some time. He kind of sees himself as a fatherly figure for the unruly younglings: Wilhelm and Hateau and puts in fatherly advice when the two get into an argument about who gets to kick down the door.

Senako: An elven sorceress and Ambaila's wife. She is also a longtime friend of Koya's family. She assists Ambaila with their undertaking to make men of the younger dull witted companions.

Tarlynn: A Samsaran Monk. He has lived many lives as a killer but seeks redemption in sandpoint. He teaches martial arts to a handful of children in the city. However, his time has come to once again to take up his staff and transverse the land on a path of enlightenment.
