If you're already comfortable with 3.5 rules, then the Core Rulebook should be all you need. The Beginner's Box is an excellent tool to get new folks into the hobby, but is not really needed for the transition from 3.x

Hello Sniggevert. Thank you for your feedback. I know what I need to order now.

When you subscribe, you're basically telling Paizo that you want to put all future item in that product line (the RPG in this case) on preorder (and you can cancel it at any time). A subscription doesn't cover any items that were released prior to signing up for the subscription.

In your case, you'd need to buy the CRB and any other books that have already been released that you are interested separately.

(Since you're new here, it's worth mentioning that Paizo also publishes all their rules to the Pathfinder Reference Document on their website for free. Others are also allowed to post rule compilations.)

Welcome to Pathfinder!

Thank you very much for the feedback, Skeld. I had a feeling this was the case, but just wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing before plunking down my dollars.

I have one more question that I hope you (or anyone, for that matter) can answer. Considering that, while I am new to Pathfinder, I am not new to RPGs in general and D&D 3.x rules in specific, is there any value in me purchasing the Beginner's Box as well as the Core Rulebook? Does it make sense to do the early-character leveling (levels one thru five) in the "basic rule set" of the Beginner's Box (akin to the original D&D) before transitioning them to the "full rule set" of the Core Rulebook (akin to the original AD&D) the way the Beginner's Box unboxing video describes, or would it be better/smarter to start with the Core Rulebook?

I am new to Pathfinder (but familiar with DnD 2/3/3.5) and I am trying to wrap my head around this "ongoing subscription" offering. Since I am just getting started with Pathfinder, I think I would need to get the Core Rulebook and probably a few other books to have a good starting library. When I click on the Core Rulebook, down near the bottom of the description is a note that it is part of the Pathfinder RPG Subscription.

In reading up on the Subscription, however, it appears that it is only focused on new/upcoming product releases. I do not see anywhere in the Subscription description (try saying that 10 times fast) where it indicates that I will be (or can opt for) receiving the Core Rulebook or Beastiary or any of the other basic (or advanced) books that have already been released.

On top of that, one of the Subscription reviews mentions that part of the Subscription may wind up being small items that I may not want and there does not seem to be a way to opt out of these undesired products.

Am I missing something or not understanding what the Subscription is for? How do I receive my basic/advanced rulebooks and strategy guides via the Subscription -- or is that not what the subscription is for? Any clarification would be appreciated.
