Great work Benchak, here is some feedback.
On a side note, you might want to add a different sheet for spells giving more room for the new special abilities for the spellcasting classes. ![]()
This is just to have let my voice be heard in the debate. I have skimmed through the thread and must say that I feel that condensing skills is a nice move in general. But I would agree that some of the changes feels wrong just from a logical and mechanical point. So here is my suggestions: 1. Search should not be a part of the perception cluster. To me its about knowing what to look for not just looking. One could maybe mingle it with appraise instead. Or a high perception skill could grant a synergy bonus to search, actually I think I like that one the best. 2. Combine ride and handle animal. Seems that the reasons have been discussed to no end already, so I don't feel like its necessary to go into detail here. All the other changes is completely fine by me. ![]()
In my playtest group we have a player who is really keen on keeping it simple, as a result he always play a fighter or barbarian. He hates having to manage to much information when all he wants to do is smash someone's head inn and have a drink afterwards. And he had no problems with the rage point system. In fact we transformed our 5th level characters from standard core to paizos alpha and he still coped well. In fact he loved them. It made it simpler for him to rage because now he wasn't afraid to spend a rage in the wrong battle. So I really don't buy the "complicates our simple barbarian" argument. ![]()
"ledgabriel"But the Magic Weapon thing didnt help, you could still enchant your improvised weapon, it would be weird, but possible.[/QUOTE wrote:

Evanta wrote: Hmmm no one's a fan of clerics? I'm a fan of clerics. But I must agree to the points presented here. But I would also like to expand on it to all the spellcasters. I agree that extra powers are cool, I think that its wonderful that they are now able to contribute slightly to combat even when all their spells are cast. I feel that the amount of text that one has to keep track of is getting out of hand. ![]()
well just to have said what I feel should be said. I really like the feel of the old fashioned paladin. His ability to cast spells based on his faith, the option of wacking the evil opponent over the head with his mighty weapon, the fact that he is a chavalier who rides around on a enchanted animal (horse) of purity and righteousness etc etc. But I can clearly see that the paladin is lacking. What I feel should be done is the following: As posted before, tie his spellcasting to his charisma, it helps his skill balance. Maybe do it as the bard, give him a number known and then make it spontaneous. Make some paladin only spells, that really helps him and his companions in melee. Give him some divine bonus feats or something simmilar tied to his turn UD. And make it just as many as cleric, maybe not as soon, but at least decent. Let the number of smites scale with charisma. ![]()
Salama wrote: Another common request is magic item slots, which I think is even more useless. But I try to design my sheets for other people, not just me, so I think I'll try to fit those in too. Well a quick sugestion for that is to make the protective gear and magic items fill the same part of the sheet, it takes up each others spaces mostly so it should save some space so to speak. But that is just my two cents. Looking forward to next sheet anyway, really hope Paizo makes something similar for the end product. ![]()
Yeah I figured there was a reason for leaving them out. And if you need a reason for the things to be there, it helps with the bookkeeping. At least it does for my players. But I really buy you point about repeating info, its just that on a personal level me and my players feel that its nice with a few slots were we can actually see what is what on our characters. Yeah the class specific sheets aren't really multiclass friendly. But then again in my head they are for those of us who don't want to do that. And still great work. ![]()
I for one would be very sad if the bard lost his bardic music, bardic knowledge or his I can do a bit of all ability. That is the three things I really love about the class. BUT, I don't think that it has to use the same mechanics as it does now. I agree that the bard is too widespread for his own good. But I also feel that he looses too much of his feel and charm if you remove those three ideas about him. ![]()
Salama, I love your character sheet. But during playtesting we encountered one slight problem. There is no place to put your armour and protective items information. So if you could fix that we would be even more impressed. And once again thanks for the great work. And on a sidenote: I really hope that Pathfinder follows one good tradition from WotC and release class specific character sheets for all the core classes. Not that WotC really did that for the core classes, but at least they did for all the other ones. ![]()
I too feel that there should be put up a standardised code of honor for the paladin. I usually proclaim that the paladin should follow the 10 commandments, just put in the word innocent here and there and you should be good to go. But that is a house rule, and I would really like to see a core code of honour. |
