Background:

Siliel Alori grew up in the shadow of her father, a wizard and divination specialist who never amassed great power but spent his
life in the pursuit of pure knowledge, becoming a expert of minor acclaim in the study of the planes, without ever visiting them. Siliel sought to both impress and differentiate herself from her father by studying the practical mysteries of alchemy. Sadly her cold and emotionless father values only the pursuit of pure knowledge and was merely annoyed to see his only child choose to get her fingers gruby with chemicals rather than pursue pure theory.

Frustrated Siliel sought deeper knowledge in mysterious Ustalav, hoping to probe some lost pocket of primordial eldritch knowledge. For months she lurked around Ustalav's universities and libraries, stuying unfamiliar formulae and piecing together fragmentary passages.

In Lepidstadt she met Professor Lorrimor, and in spite of her prickly disposition he was impressed with here native intelligence and single minded pursuit of knowledge. Eventually Lorrimor was impressed enough to write a letter of recommendation for the young alchemist, earning her unfettered access to the many halls of learning in Ustalav that held him in high regard.

Over time Siliel began to glean hints of lost lore regarding the fundamental underpinnings of certain alchemical processes. From Lepdstadt to Caliphas to Karcau she scoured every source of information available to her but never found any specific formulae or other hard information. Eventually she began to suspect that important information had been interred in a noble family's crypt in Lepdstadt. Unable to secure permission to investigate she broke in.

Inside she found only unquiet dead and fled for her life, only to find the local constable waiting for her as she emerged. Siliel was placed in a cell but the constable's respect for the University and the letter from Lorrimor in her pocket averted any summary punishment. Eventually Lorrimor arrived and persuaded the authorities to release Siliel into his custody.

Siliel accompanied Lorrimor as an assistant for a while as he journeyed south. Along the way he spoke of the sense of desolation and abandonment the people of Ustalav felt when they were left to rebuild their nation after the fall of the Whispering Tyrant. They felt that the people of Avistan had gotten the crusade they wanted, and then left without concern for those that lived there.

Siliel realized he was drawing a parallel to her. She had come to Ustalav to plunder its treasures and give nothing in return. Near Kyonin's borders he released her with the clear understanding, she was in his debt for his aid to her, and one day he would call on her to aid his beleaguered homeland.

Appearance:

Like most elves Siliel is tall and slender. Unlike most she is often unkempt. She has short green hair, often poorly groomed, and green eyes. Her skin tone is pale for an elf of the forest. She usually wears drab sturdy clothes which, along with her fingers are often stained with ink and the residue of experiments.

Personality:

Siliel is socially awkward and given to suppressing her emotions, she does not evince the outward lightheartedness typical of many elves. She can seem cool and prickly, but that impression is the result of her discomfort with social interaction. She is given to blunt, unvarnished assessments. However she is good, and inclined to help those who are threatened, her time with Lorrimor has marked her in ways she does not yet fully understand. She feels an empathy for the abandoned people of Ustalav that compels here to worry about their future. None of this has blunted her thirst for knowledge however, nor made her less likely to risk life and limb in its pursuit.
