Why do the new Boots of Elvenkind grant a +5 bonus to Acrobatics?

Sure, Cloaks of Elvenkind already grant a bonus to Stealth and such bonuses don't stack.

I don't see this as a very justified reason.

The essence of the Boots has always been to help elves move more silently. The would be under Stealth, not Acrobatics.

A solution for the stacking thing could have been found. An exception or a Magic Item Set or some such. The bonuses could have been made different, competence for the Cloak and untyped or inherit for the Boots or some such.

It just seems out of character for Pathfinder to so blatantly disregard the essence of the item.

The Boots used to grant a +5 bonus to Move Silently checks in 3.5. Isn't that under Stealth now?

My DM is making an argument that since Silence, the spell, grants no bonus to Stealth checks, the rules of Pathfinder essentially ignore the effects of quietness on Stealth and as such, boots that make you more quiet (the old boots of Elvenkind) would do nothing for Stealth even in essence. The rules simple do not support silence and Stealth compatibility.

Anyone from the Pathfinder team here? Any comments?
