21 posts. Alias of flykiller (RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32).

These Ryuko's players waited for two months before starting to look for a new DM... but I'd wager that finding a DM for a Paizo AP on Paizo's own boards is much easier than for a Cthulhu game...
Seymour squirms and covers his face, the suppressed trauma of witnessing childbirth coming to haunt him in a surreal and terrifying way.
Sanity: 1d100 ⇒ 31
Hey Isabelle, wanna take over as our new GM? :)
Nope, his last posts were on Aug 26th and 30th, and he also disappeared from a recruitment he was running. Having been in such situations myself, I guess RL interfered in a brutal way.
Seymour looks slightly embarrassed and flattered at the same time.
"Sorry, I tried to go slower than I do when I drive alone. Indeed, when I have a spare time, I compete against like-minded people in a racing club. The possibilities opened up by the age of technology we live in are amazing! Just fifty years ago, no one could imagine going over 50 miles an hour. What is truly baffling if you think about it from an evolutionary standpoint, is that the human perceptory systems allow us to react to challenges which we have never faced in our history as a species. There was never a need for us to be able to drive a car or pilot an airplane, yet we are able to do that. Perhaps one day, we will learn how to fly to the Moon."
Seymour nods appreciatively.
"Westerns?! Sounds like fun! I tried submitting a scenario once, but it got rejected. The producer said there were too many words said by the heroes."
I thought those who were told by the police to stay would not join, but looks like they're playing Chaotic :)
Seymour is mostly silent during the drive, concentrating on the road. When he finally steps out of the car, he does a couple of stretches to get his blood running properly, and the others can see that he looks quite tired as if he hasn't slept last night. He yawns deeply.
"Well, this is it. I must say, fairly impressive for a relatively backwater establishment, if a bit eerie. Anyway, let's find out something about our mysterious professor."
Seymour tries the front door, and assuming it's not locked, strides through the halls until he sees one of the staff, at which point he inquires about Prof. Cowles, or the Esoterics faculty in general.
After exchanging the day's impressions, Seymour sighs. "Well, since it looks like I won't be able to take you two to Arkham, do you have other plans for tomorrow?"
Roughly what time is it now? about 10 PM? Can Seymour expect that there is someone able to pick up the phone at Miskatonic University? How did the phone system work - were there phone booths, private phones, or do we have to go to a public place to make a phone call?
No problem at all Ryuko, and I hope you recover swiftly!
Seymour takes Belle and Roderick with him as they look for whichever police station is the closest to the hotel, then wait as the witnesses to the Mr. Jackson's murder are released from the interrogation.
Seymour copies the offered details into his notebook and thanks the woman.
Sorry - is it a phone number or an address?
"So, it looks the trail makes us to go to Arkham. Unless, of course, you prefer the West Australia", he chuckles.
I think we all deserve a good night's rest here. Tomorrow morning I plan to visit the publishing house, and then it's time for the trip to Arkham. If anyone wishes to accompany me, it'll be my pleasure. My car can fit five people.
"Lyrical bliss? Ha-ha, not exactly my expertise. You could say I weave enrapturing tales of adventure and derring-do", he replies with a polite smile. "The Mystery of the Golden Scarab, The Land of the Fallen Star? Ever heard of those?"
The backstory implies you are unlikely to have heard something good on the former or anything at all on the latter. I'll add it to my profile now.
Seymour attempts to find a senior faculty member and inquire about the current location of the Prof. Cowles. Also he will ask if there are any photographs or stenograms of that conference. Let me know if some check is needed for that
And since I got a high income roll, here's something Seymour would have as his car: Duesenberg Model A, having shelled out $6500 for it in 1922.
While we're at it, on the subject of racism. I don't live in USA, but I've read that racism was still a thing there in 1920s and not frowned upon, so I intend to occasionally make in-character racist remarks. Please note that they don't reflect my personal views and I'll abstain from them at the first indication that someone finds them inappropriate or offensive out-of-character.
"You are right Mr. Farshaw, we will have to find and visit this Atwright lady. But since we don't have her address we will probably have to turn to the Prospero House for her details."
GM - would it be reasonable to assume that as a writer, Seymour has some contacts in the publishing house?
To Roderick - It's Stodgell. Seymour Stodgell. A pity we meet under such horrific circumstances. I was going to see Mr. Elias for some materials regarding the Carlysle Expedition which I hoped to use in my next book.
After Jake is done with the clues, Seymour takes them over and copies them into his own notebook, also doing a rough sketch of the photograph.
"Silas N'Kwane... Sounds like an African name. The murderers also looked African. Perhaps this man at Emerson Imports can know something about them.
And the lecture on Polynesian cults is tonight only... I feel we must visit it and learn whatever it is Jackson intended to learn there."
Seymour starts sweating profusely as the adrenaline buildup leaves his body. He wipes his face with a kerchief before opening up his notebook and showing the others a hasty sketch of a car with a licence plate and two cartoonish black figures inside.
"If we're lucky we could have the police track this car for us. Anybody here has a cop friend? Me, I'm just a writer, not very well-versed in the investigations."
Time to catch up with the events...
SAN check: 1d100 ⇒ 22
Utterly shocked by the gruesome sight, Seymour fights back the nausea while the more skilled ones fight the attackers. As the killers begin to flee, an idea flashes across Seymour's mind: "The car!" He rushes downstairs in a wild attempt to get into his car parked in front of the hotel and run the killers over.
I'll follow the example of others who attempted to outrun the killers and make a dex x 5 check
1d100 ⇒ 40 vs 55
Looks like a success? Driving check then
1d100 ⇒ 81 vs 70
It quickly dawns on Seymour that it was a bad idea, as the men he's after are easily able to zigzag between crowds and into a narrow alley where his car cannot fit. Disheartened, he drives back into the hotel and braces himself before re-entering the room.
Checking for any notes or clues Elias or the attackers could have left, using Spot Hidden check
1d100 ⇒ 17 vs 65
I almost gave up on this game and here it is alive and kicking! Nice!
A screeching of tyres upon wet asphalt is heard, followed by muffled curses and a loud door clap. Moments later, a smartly dressed, slightly balding man enters the room, brushing water droplets off his striped suit.
"Oh please do excuse me, I must be late... I came to see Mr. Elias who should be staying in this hotel, is he around?"
As he waits for an answer, he absent-mindedly runs his palm over his moist hair, combing it over.
Hey there, I've made a profile for Seymour and am checking in. Looking forward to getting started!
I'd like to submit this Staff Magus for you consideration. He's currently statted up to level 13, as I conceived him for another game, but the idea of the build is there. He will be focusing on using magical staves for their true purpose - tripping the hell out of the opponents :)
Posting as a draft profile of flykiller's Staff Magus. Still have to choose spells, post appearance & background, and look for some useful minor gear I might have missed, but I feel the basic build is good. The AC is impressive, but the damage before buffs is fairly low.
