Sebti watches Rasim make his careful way down the rope with no expression. She tosses a quick glance toward Byron and his mother, then looks back at the shaft. Byron makes a successful Sense Motive check Even through her blank expression, Byron can see an internal conversation roil through her head. She is obviously conflicted. Her hand drifts to a knife at her side, and he can see her gaze riveted on the rope tied securely to the piton marring the plain stone - the rope that serves as the only known escape from the tomb below. The hand stops and falls back to her side as the tension in her face finally fades. She turns and looks at Byron. "I must still observe." She moves to the rope and carefully lowers herself down into the lower chamber.
Byron Swiftwater wrote: "Marvelous architecture." Byron glances back to Sebti "Hmmm, I apologize for the disturbance and slight marring of the stone. Though I fear more may be necessary. If it does come to that, are we permitted to do so on the condition that we will repair damage done? I'm working on a spell for just this thing." Sebti struggles to find the right words for a moment, then visibly settles, "We are overlooking such 'minor' defacements." She stumbles a bit, then recovers. "On request from the Ruby Prince. We understand for his illustrious intent to be followed a few necessary exceptions to our concerns will have to be made. Damage should be avoided if possible, but small things related to entering chambers and uncovering the 'spoils' are to be allowed." Byron Swiftwater wrote: While he has her attention "We all have our own beliefs and our own paths to follow, even the unbelievers who walk their path alone. I myself didn't care for Pharasma's teachings, but I do respect them. In fact the midwife for my birth was a follower of Pharasma and described my birth as 'The most beautiful thing she had ever seen'" Byron feels a pang of pain and shutters a bit. "I understand. One of Pharasma's mysteries is why she sometimes bestows both her gifts on a family at the same time. Byron Swiftwater wrote: "I think some people misjudge Pharasma, they see the undertakers and executioners but fail to see the midwives. I am a guest in your home, I will try to act with the respect that entails but we are also guests, by invitation or by fate and we should be treated as such as well. By this I mean that a certain leniency needs to be granted, on both sides." Byron gives a heartfelt smile. "So in the spirit of friendship, is there any advice you could give us? Do you know about this Anubis?" "I am not looking for conflict, and thank you for your respect. I wish it were more universal. As for Anubis, he sits in similar judgment as Pharasma, and oversees the passage of the worthy dead to their place of final rest as well. His veneration has been all but supplanted in this modern time, but when this tomb was built, Anubis and Pharasma shared their duties more equally."
"I have no intention of helping you at all." she looks on the dwarf with disdain. "Nor should you expect me to, if you plan on insulting me and my faith with every other statement. You show no concern, no understanding that this is difficult for me. As for the corrections, so long as you hold to what you agreed to, it won't be a concern. I assume that is your plan?"
Sebti responds to Graxzos with a frozen expression and two words, "As expected" She then responds to Byron's queries, "The route is yours to choose, but you are permitted access only to your assigned tomb. In fact, the teams have been assigned specific locales to prevent just what you describe. Any who add the living to their list of plunder targets will not be allowed in the Grand Mauseleum again. My name is Sebti, Sebti of the Crocodile." A flash of green shimmer washes over her swarthy complexion when she speaks her name. |
