Going back a few minutes...

"And also, this," a circular gold pendant on a simple leather thong, "has saved the lives of many - though none in my house possess the talent to use it."

Naelah seems visibly bothered, as she looks at the pendant, at the fact that everyone seems to expect her to take it. She lifts it up, but does not put it on. It is beautiful in form and in function and that appeals to her, but something else weighs on her soul. Still holding the pendant, she closes her eyes and listens as the others talk...

"While the Sheriff is gone we would like to hire you to help defend the town until he returns. You would be like soldiers of the guard, but you would not have daily duties. If we are attacked you would be in town and available to help defend. We can pay you a retainer."

Naelah hears this and sadly knows what she must do. Her eyes open slowly. She looks at the faces of her new-found friends: Slidell, her boon companion of the last several days, is a whirl of unrelenting wind, he stops only to collect himself and pick up more speed. She smiles as she thinks of their...conversations. Vesh, so unaware and obvious on one hand, and yet brave and unrelenting on the other. She does not know what to make of him, or of his obvious affection for Veren...and herself. Ehlissa is a summer breeze--strong and radiant. A dangerous mix of beauty and strength that Naelah has rarely encountered in foreign women. Corran, silent like a night-breeze. Though she hardly knows him, she feels a deep connection with him and with his relationship to nature. Malcolm, he is the most enigmatic to her, like the turbulent sea itself. Bright and handsome, yet dangerous in a very unsettling way. He is the dark alley to her bright meadow, and yet his devotion to his crew and to this group tell a different story about him.

She looks to the Shoanti, the one they call Sheriff, and says in their language, "Thash ash theth sho kath." She hands the pendant to him.

Turning to the group, she says, "I see clearly, and I see that this is not my path. The wind cannot be bound by the walls of this town, and neither can I. I am sorry."

She looks to Slidell and takes his hands in hers. "You have been a good friend to me, showing me the ways of this town and it's people." In a lower voice she tells him, "The wind that rages within you...you must master it, or it will topple you."

She turns to see Vesh scratching Veren behind his ears. She says to him, putting a hand on his shoulder, "O ath tha verath ala tha shasha." She smiles, "this passion you feel inside is not for me. You have a higher road to travel, and your devotion belongs to another."

Hugging Ehlissa tightly, and giving Corran a kiss on each cheek, she then turns to Malcolm and says, "Your days on the sea may return in time, but these people are your safe harbor for now. Treat them as such, and do not look to return to your past too quickly." With that she sqeezes Malcolm's hand.

"Do not look so sad, my friends. I am like the wind. Today I blow from the east and tomorrow from the west. We may see each other again." And, calling Veren to her side, she strides out the door, not looking back.

Shoanti Translation:

Spoiler:

This is not my path.
You and the wolf are the same.

Naelah sits heavily on the hay bale as the goblins go down, one after another. She can hear her keka's voice in her head, Foolish girl! You were born of the wind. It flows from your heart, not between your ears! Veren pads up to her, his snout bloodied, but otherwise unhurt.

She watches the flames rising from the cart and knows, with a few more seconds, she could have called forth water and that there would be no burning cart. But, the goblins had made a mess of her plans, and her side and back as well. From the swirling haze and smoke, she sees a man running towards her. Keka?

No, not keka. The man they call Nathal, the Khasht of Desna. He has kind eyes. The man bends and examines her wounds. In common she tells him, "Hurry, Nathal, I do not think this storm has blown over yet," as she scratches Veren's head.

Shoanti:

Spoiler:

Keka = Poppi
Nathal = Father
Khasht = Priest

---------------------
Naelah is currently at 2/9 hp; Veren is at 8/9 hp.

Naelah falls back to D-11, and collapses onto the hay bale in obvious pain from her wound.

Veren, smelling blood, has other ideas. He lunges at the goblin at B-16 and bites deep (Attack = 15; Damage = 4). Veren, his teeth sunken into the goblin's leg, pulls the creature down with a shake of his head (Veren's trip +1 = 16 vs. Goblin's Dex +2 = 13).

Sorry for the delay. I just put the kids down, and I'm brewing Stout today.

Veren lunges at the open goblin, but misses. Attack (bite +3)= 5; Damage = 7

Love that Invisible Castle!

I know Corran has to take his R1 action and Slidell his R2, but I don't know when I'll be able to post later, so...

Veren lunges at the goblin in front of him (at C13).
Attack and Damage = 7 and 7 respectively. I'm not bothering with the f#$%!ng link.

Naelah spins and trys to hold off the Goblin attacking her.
Naelah goes into Full Defense to get a +4 dodge bonus to AC and waits for the cavalry to show up.

Insert long string of vulgarities here: ________________!

Naelah's down to 2 hit points, and her plan will no longer work. I didn't count on the wagon exploding the very first round!!! These things are dead! Hopefully, before I get PsiFox's character killed.

As Naelah finishes healing the young warrior woman named Ehlissa, she hears a commotion on the far side of the square. Seeing goblins pour around the wooden conveyance that she's just learned is called a wagon, she catches Slidell moving furiously with his crossbow as Vesh is shouting to him to shoot the torch-bearer.

In a flash, Naelah knows what she must do. Uncharacteristically, she yells to Veren in a firm voice, "Veren, Nerev sha! Shta khesha, sho nhath!" Even the wind blows swiftly--and with fury--at times!

As Slidell fires his crossbow, Naelah darts out to the north, and clearing the hay bales, turns west to stop at the hitch of the wagon (at D14), croutching and waiting for goblins, Veren covering her back (at C14).

In Shoanti:

Spoiler:

"Veren, follow me! Stay close, my friend!"

Question for JSL: I am sometimes confused by move actions in a round. Naelah moves 7 squares a round, Veren 10. If Naelah and Veren hustle (moving twice her speed for the round), is it possible for them to cut an arc north and then west around the hay bales to end up at the tongue of the wagon? With Naelah ending up at D14 and Veren at C14?

HERE is what I was thinking. I didn't bother plotting Veren's move.

If the answer is yes, then that is what I'd like for the two of them to do. The rest of you have got to do what you can to try to keep the goblins away from the wagon as long as possible until...

For the rest of the party (not so much for JSL, but I don't really care if he reads it):

Spoiler:

...Naelah can cast Create Water right above the torch bearer. She's got to get within 25 feet.

Just until PsiFox can start posting again. ~santinj@
Initiative = 18

Slidell and Goblins first but then Naelah moves east two squares (to N11) in order to cast Cure Light Wounds on Ehlissa for 9 points as specified by JSL. Veren moves up into N9 beside and behind Slidell.
