Background:
Rosaleen is very proud to be Llaelese but that meant that her early life had been marred by war and loss. Maybe what she had lost made her hold tighter to her heritage. Whatever the reason, she surrounded herself with reminders of Llael and sought out traditional food wherever she was.
She was mainly raised by her grandparents, Katerine and Retho. This was because her father, Garrik, was slaughtered by invading Khadorans when she was eight. He had been on his way home from work and was killed in the street. Her mother, Dara, was a combat alchemist with the Golden Crucible and had often been away for work which left Rosaleen to grow up in her grandparents’ home.
Her mother Dara died in the Battle of Henge Hold but rather than push Rosaleen away from alchemy, it drew her towards it because she felt her mother's presence when she practiced alchemy. Dara had instilled in Rosaleen a love of mixing different chemicals together to create a completely different substance. Retho had taught Rosaleen all about botany and the secrets of nature that could then be unleashed in alchemical reactions. However, Rosaleen blamed the Golden Crucible for her mother’s death and wanted no part of their organization so she continued to search out formulae and new techniques on her own.
This is how she met her mentor, Malek di la Trivassi. During her search she came across Malek who was a dashing young alchemist with a wild streak. For the next five years, he taught her that alchemy could be used for profit (with some minor bending of rules) and that it could be used to expand her wealth as well as her mind. He also taught her the importance of cover identities and taught her how to forge papers. He was definitely better at forgery but she thought she was better at alchemy. She became enamored with Malek and soon found herself thinking that she would do anything for him and that they would spend the rest of their lives together. Then one day he was gone and she was alone again.
Heart-broken, she fell back into what was familiar and comfortable…alchemy. She began searching again for interesting formulae which is how she wound up on the train to Corvis. Knowing that drunk people were fairly chatty, she had been hanging out in a tavern and recognized a member of the Golden Crucible who was bragging about something new he had discovered. She followed him onto the train and was now biding her time until she could search his belongings.
Appearance:
Rosaleen has fair skin and a lithe form. She has a somewhat short stature, standing at 5”4. She has shoulder length auburn hair but the left side is shaved close to her scalp. She has light brown eyes and a smattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose. She dresses in Alchemist’s leathers to protect herself during her many experiments and she also has the other necessary PPE which is always close at hand. One of her favourite possessions is her gas mask, the other is a book of Llaelese poetry but her most prized possession is her formula book where she keeps meticulous notes of her alchemical experiments.
Personality:
Rosaleen is a proud Llaelese but she has also learned how to be a chameleon out of necessity during the last five years. She appears very chaotic in her approach to alchemy but there is always a method to her madness.
