About Richter Kyras

Backstory:

On a rainy dark morning in Ustalav the pain started. Being on the road for nearly two weeks had put Raya and Richard in the middle of nowhere in the country. The contractions started out of nowhere and Raya fell to the earth. Richard tried to stay calm but panic started to set in. He had to get his lovely elven wife some help. Richard put a blanket on his wife and told her he would be right back. He wanted to check the land from the hill that was ahead of them. He ran as fast as his human legs would carry him and was able to make it up the muddy hill. In the distance he saw it, a dot of light in the darkness, it looked to be some sort of temple. Richard ran back to his wife and gathered her up with their few belongings and headed for the temple.

After what seemed like ages and much screaming on Raya’s part they made it to the temple. A young girl was already running out to meet them hearing the pain-filled screams even during the storm. She beckoned them in and ushered them to a bed in what seemed to be a vacant room. The young girl, Lyra, knew right away what was happening with Raya but not why her pain was so bad. She told Richard that she would right back with a priest and more help. Lyra brought back help and after many hours of labor, medicine, healing magic and even slight divine intervention baby Richter was born. Thankful for the help and wanting to pay the temple back Richard and Raya decided to stay and help with duties around the temple. They learned the Sarenrae was the goddess who had shown them the way and became devotees of the faith.

Many years went by and so did people. Just Richter, his mother, father, and Lyra who helped them so many years ago remained. Lyra was now the Priestess of the temple with both Richter’s parents being acolytes. Richter was training to be a cleric of Sarenrae and was progressing extremely fast. He also managed the library of the temple and when he was younger was the librarian of it. He would spend hours reading books, especially those of Sarenrae and Pharasma. This reading also included rare texts about the undead and how to fight them.

Throughout his years at the temple both Lyra and Richter grew very close and secretly loved each other. There love bloomed although their studies took up most of their time. Though they never confessed their love for each other both would do anything or the other.

Richter was now 31 winters old and times were getting harder, his father had aged much. But one beautiful sunny morning which was rare in Ustalav, Richter and his father set out to a town that was a day’s journey from the temple. This town was Ravngro. Richter and his father would visit there often and although Richter had to hide his elven heritage he always enjoyed talking to people and never blamed anyone for their prejudice. Richard had to return some books to a man named Professor Lorrimor. They never made it…

Not a half day from home the skies darkened and they were set upon by two undead skeletons. Not unheard of but strange at his time of day Richter was able to fend off both of the skeletons but not before Richard was mortally wounded. Richter watched as his father died before his eyes. Before the light faded from Richards eyes he told his son to tell Raya that he loved her. All fell silent for what seemed an eternity before Richter broke down. He carried his father’s body back to the temple. Richter could tell something was wrong when he approached the building. It was closer to dark and no lights were lit in the temple. Richter lay his father’s body down and cast his light spell letting it guide his way.

Upon reaching the temple doors he noticed a dark liquid smeared on the wall and his heart sank, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end. He flung the temple doors wide to a scene that could have only been out of a nightmare. The temple was destroyed some skeletons and zombies lay dead and what looked to be some bloodied remains of people. He ran to them thinking they were his mother and Lyra. The clothing was not theirs and as he looked on, he heard it. The sound of quiet sobs came from the dark corner near him. He slowly shown his light only to reveal his mother huddled in the corner with her hands over her face. He went to her and grabbed her shoulder at which point she screamed and started to fight him away until he spoke and was able to calm her down. After she calmed some Raya was able to tell Richter what had happened.

About an hour after Richard had left with Richter two people showed up at the temple horribly out of breathe and told Raya and Lyra to bar the doors. Not knowing what was happening Lyra tried to calm the travelers but as she did a horrible moaning sound came from outside. Just as one traveler was shutting the door a hoard of undead burst through the door and attacked. Lyra shoved Raya into a side room and slammed the door shut. All Raya heard was screaming and above all heard Raya’s voice calling out to Sarenrae to destroy the taint that had come into the temple. Raya stayed huddled in the room until the noise stopped and ventured out to find the two travelers dead but no sign of Lyra, just her holy symbol lying on the ground.

Just as Richter took the symbol from his mother a moaning sound turned him to find three zombies closing in on them from another room. On instinct Richter thrust out the holy symbol of Sarenrae and called out to her. A blinding light shown through the whole room and when it faded there were three smoking corpses lying on the ground where the zombies had been. He heard her, the voice of his goddess and knew from this point what he must do.

What Richter does not know is that Lyra is still alive. The hoard of mindless undead was being directed by a necromancer, one that did not want the temple of light in this region. The hoard was sent with instruction to kill all but the priestess and bring her back alive. Two intelligent undead where in the group and were the ones that captured her. If he knew she was alive he would search the world for her. She is still in Ustalav though right under his nose.

Appearance & Demeanor:
Richter Kyras is 32 years old, stands 5’-9“ and weighs 145lbs. He has blonde hair, gold flecked hazel eyes, and a fair complexion. His body is lithe and toned but rarely does he show much skin. His face when shown always is clean shaven, though this is from his elven heritage more than actually shaving. Richter is friendly, honest and kind when speaking to others and his demeanor is calm in all situations. He is loyal and trustworthy to a fault once someone has gained his friendship. Living in Ustalav all of his life has made him hide his elven half in most smaller towns, often getting mistaken for a changeling or the sort. He wears a white cloak that covers his head in turn hiding his ears. His clothing covers all but his face and neck. At times he will don a grey scarf below his eyes hiding everything from the nose down.

Drives/Goals/Aspirations:

Richter despises the undead. His goal is to exterminate them all from the planet. To him they are an unnatural phenomena and nature must be rebalanced.

Even though Richter will always pay his respects to Pharasma and will even carry a small holy symbol of hers, his true goddess is Sarenrae. His goddess drives him to bring light to the dark places starting in Ustalav.

Besides his mission to irradicate all undead he also wishes to spread the word of Sarenrae to others hoping to convert others as he travels.

His aspiration is to become a Paladin of Sarenrae. He diligently works towards that goal.

IC Post:

Richter sat at the table in the local tavern drinking his glowing green ale still not used to drinking this strange concoction. The men at the table with him, Mr. Gibbs as Richter refers to him, and the others were all laughing and joking again. "They sure can drink a lot…"

Richter looked to the man next to him and finished his story. ”Yeah… after we buried my father next to the temple I packed what little belongings my mother and I had and we moved to the safety of Ravengro. Relatively speaking…” The man seemed interested enough in the story so he continued. ”It has been three months now and the temple remains dark… I intend to sanctify it again one day but for now it is yet another abandoned building out in the country side of Ustalav.”

The man watched Richter closely and sat quietly for a moment before speaking. "Richter I do not know how you still keep a smile on your face after everything that has happened. We may not be much of Sarenrae worshipers around here but fighting against that kind of evil is always welcomed in Ravengro." The man seemed a little too much into his cup but Richter took the sentiment for what it was all the same.

Just as Richter was about to say more he noticed a group of four walk into the tavern and then saw Mr. Gibbs call one of them over. "What could this be about… I have not seen these people here before. Maybe they came for poor Kendra…"

Benefit: You get a +3 bonus on all checks involving the chosen skill. If you have 10 or more ranks in that skill, this bonus increases to +6.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new skill.

Turn Undead Calling upon higher powers, you cause undead to flee from the might of your unleashed divine energy.
Prerequisites: Channel positive energy class feature.
Benefit: You can, as a standard action, use one of your uses of channel positive energy to cause all undead within 30 feet of you to flee, as if panicked. Undead receive a Will save to negate the effect. The DC for this Will save is equal to 10 + 1/2 your cleric level + your Charisma modifier. Undead that fail their save flee for 1 minute. Intelligent undead receive a new saving throw each round to end the effect. If you use channel energy in this way, it has no other effect (it does not heal or harm nearby creatures).

Traits:
Undead Slayer (N): Instructed at a young age in the tenets of your faith, you view the undead as abominations that must be destroyed, so their souls can journey beyond to be judged. You gain a +1 trait bonus on weapon damage against undead.

Sacred Conduit: Your birth was particularly painful and difficult for your mother, who needed potent divine magic to ensure that you survived (your mother may or may not have). In any event, that magic infused you from an early age, and you now channel divine energy with greater ease than most. Whenever you channel energy, you gain a +1 trait bonus to the save DC of your channeled energy.

Special Qualities:
Aura (Ex): A cleric of a chaotic, evil, good, or lawful deity has a particularly powerful aura corresponding to the deity's alignment (see the detect evil spell for details).

Channel Energy (Su): Regardless of alignment, any cleric can release a wave of energy by channeling the power of her faith through her holy (or unholy) symbol. This energy can be used to cause or heal damage, depending on the type of energy channeled and the creatures targeted.
A good cleric (or one who worships a good deity) channels positive energy and can choose to deal damage to undead creatures or to heal living creatures. Channeling energy causes a burst that affects all creatures of one type (either undead or living) in a 30-foot radius centered on the cleric. The amount of damage dealt or healed is equal to 1d6 points of damage plus 1d6 points of damage for every two cleric levels beyond 1st (2d6 at 3rd, 3d6 at 5th, and so on). Creatures that take damage from channeled energy receive a Will save to halve the damage. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + 1/2 the cleric's level + the cleric's Charisma modifier. Creatures healed by channeled energy cannot exceed their maximum hit point total—all excess healing is lost. A cleric may channel energy a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier. This is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. A cleric can choose whether or not to include herself in this effect. A cleric must be able to present her holy symbol to use this ability.

Spontaneous Casting: A good cleric (or a neutral cleric of a good deity) can channel stored spell energy into healing spells that she did not prepare ahead of time. The cleric can “lose” any prepared spell that is not an orison or domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with “cure” in its name).

Domains & Abilities:
Fire Domain & Sun Domain

*Fire Domain Granted Powers: You can call forth fire, command creatures of the inferno, and your flesh does not burn.

Fire Bolt (Sp): As a standard action, you can unleash a scorching bolt of divine fire from your outstretched hand. You can target any single foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack with this bolt of fire. If you hit the foe, the fire bolt deals 1d6 points of fire damage + 1 point for every two cleric levels you possess. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

*Sun Domain Granted Powers: You see truth in the pure and burning light of the sun, and can call upon its blessing or wrath to work great deeds.

Sun's Blessing (Su): Whenever you channel positive energy to harm undead creatures, add your cleric level to the damage dealt. Undead do not add their channel resistance to their saves when you channel positive energy.
