Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Hi All. Apologies for doing this, but it seems as though I'm going to have to drop out of this game. I just have too many other things vying for my time. Again, my apologies; happy gaming.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij and Ilum make their way up to where Torch and the dwarf are talking, and offer to help in the search for food as much as they can.

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
1d20 ⇒ 12

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

"Here, here!" seconds the gnome. "Chin up, and all that. After all, we took care of things last night, didn't we?"

Quij spends the next hour or so making his way around camp, talking and joking with its members, particularly those who seem to be in need of it.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Just to be clear, does that include Ilum as well? I'm still not 100% on the rules of healing eidolons.

Quij wakes and stretches with a yawn that seems impossibly large for his small stature. "Good morning, chaps. I trust no one was carted off by ghouls while I slept?"

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Thanks, Surkoff. It's funny you mentioned that, b/c I just remembered about the smite this afternoon. As you can tell, it's my first time playing a summoner, and I'm still learning the ropes. Much appreciated.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Pony Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Attack and damage rolls if the pony saves.

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
1d3 ⇒ 1
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
1d3 ⇒ 3

Pony crit confirmation: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
Crit Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1

Quij makes to reach for his crossbow, but thinks better of it, and decides to Enlarge Surkoff instead.

Cast Enlarge Person on Surkoff.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Ilum Fort Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

As long as he's able to:

Ilum recovers and retaliates on the monster with his claws, while Quij starts to whistle as he summons a pony to replace the eagle, who launches into its own attacks.

Ilum attack and damage:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Summon celestial pony to I23. Not as good offensively but should last long enough to flank for Torch.
[url=http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/animals/horse/pony/summoned-creature-pony-horse]Celestial eagle attack and damage:
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
1d3 ⇒ 1
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
1d3 ⇒ 3

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Deftly dodging the gruesome foe, Quij puts some space between himself and the monster and conjures a celestial eagle, which immediately lays into the monster. Meanwhile, Ilum sheathes his crossbow, steps forward, and attacks the other enemy as he closes in.

"A little help here, chaps, if you please!" yells the gnome, hoping to rouse his sleeping allies.

Quij: 5-foot step to I20, summon a celestial eagle in I21, eagle full-attacks.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
1d4 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
1d4 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
1d4 ⇒ 1

Ilum: sheath weapon (move action), 5-foot step to J22, attack monster at K23 with a claw attack (Attack +2 (+1 BAB, +1 Str), 1d3+1).
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Crit damage:1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Edit: The claw attacks should be +2, not +3. Also, the yell was more fluff than anything, since I'm presuming the perception roll takes precedence.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

As Ilum lets off a shot with his crossbow, Quij steps up to get within range of a Grease spell, then conjures a slippery substance in the area encompassing his nearest foe.

Ilum Attack and Damage on monster at G28:
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
1d6 ⇒ 3

Quij moves up to H23 and casts Grease on squares F28, G28, F27, G27.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Ilum Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Don't think it's THAT reliable a survivalist... ; )

"Me and Ilum would be glad to take first watch. We're not the beefiest of fellows, but Il's got a good eye for trouble."

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij Survival: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
Ilum Survival: 1d20 ⇒ 17

"Ilum seems to know the way..."

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Ilum raises his crossbow and fires at the southernmost pterosaur. Quij concentrates on the rain nearest the same beast, which forms into a celestial eagle and immediately begins assaulting the creature.

Ilum attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Ilum damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Summon celestial eagle to K18. Attack & damage rolls:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
1d4 ⇒ 3
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
1d4 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
1d4 ⇒ 3

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

What he said.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Despite the rain, Quij and Ilum continue their whistling duet, perfectly happy to continue onward.

*Bump*

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij and Ilum walk along with the rest of the group, whistling a duet as they keep an eye out for the berries.

Perception:
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27

Quij is up for scoping the ship out, too. He'll follow behind the meat shields, err...warriors, though.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Shrugging off the dissension, Quij follows Torch and Surkoff as they set off to the west.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

"Not to be contrarian, Mr.Dwarf, but I'm for having a look into the woods to the south - if danger is to come, it's likely to come from such concealment."

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij wrinkles his nose at the dwarf's negativity. "I'm with our stuttering friend here - I can see fairly well at night, but walking around in an unfamiliar and likely dangerous jungle in the dark is a good way to get most of us killed."

"Perhaps if we head to the west, there looks to be something of a hill there..."

No worries on your English - it's loads better than my Swedish! :)

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Just to be clear, you mean the inlet at the very top, and not the larger one where the compass is located?

Also, here's a bigger map, in case anyone's like me and hates to squint: Map

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

As the afternoon heat begins to abate, Quij begins to get ansy. "So gentle men and women, what say that we have a look around the island, now that we're settled into camp? Even a few hours of looking would be preferable to waiting until morning, in my humble opinion."

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij saddles up to his fellow gnome Aberwhinge, and begins speaking quietly to him. "My good sir - now that we have a bit of time alone, I just wanted to let you know that I'd appreciate your help in keeping morale around this camp above the water line, so to speak. Every bit helps," he finishes with a wink.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

I figure Quij can entertain when we're here, and leave it to Aberwhinge when we're out.

At Ralf's wariness, Quij laughs and pats the eidolon fondly. The eidolon is basically a living shadow - a small, entirely black humanoid figure quite resembling an outline of Quij, which so far hasn't spoke except in whispered conference with the gnome. "Don't worry yourself over Ilum, old fellow - he's quite a friendly beast. His bite is worse than his bark, of course, given that he's not prone to speaking, but as long as you treat us right, you're doubtful to ever get metaphorically bit yourself. He tends to save such things for our enemies." At this last bit, the outsider mimes confrontation, with Quij encouraging him playfully.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

As the group begins to settle into its makeshift camp, Quij makes his way around, laughing and joking with as many individuals he can, as best he can. He's anxious to learn more of their surroundings, but for the time being, he decides to be patient (at least as patient as a gnome can be).

Quij would make a great entertainer. We could also set Ilum as guard, but I'm fine with someone else taking that position. I could actually go either way - fortifying or exploring - so if there's a predominant opinion, I'll roll with that.

What kind of rolls would work for raising morale?

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Sitting under the shade, Quij leans over to Torch and Surkoff. "Gentlemen, please - it's miserable enough in this island heat without all this bickering." He punctuates this statement with a lopsided smile.

I'm still here - Ralf had rolled a decent roll, and since there's already been complaints about my over-rolling, I decided to lay low.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij and Ilum make their way over to where the group is setting up camp and begin to pitch in...

Survival rolls (for Aid Another):
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
1d20 ⇒ 10

I wouldn't mind a potion of cure light wounds just in case, but am not too interested in any of the other loot, besides for the sheer lootness of it all.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

As the others worked to sort out as proper a burial as possible given the circumstances, Quij busied himself with having Ilum try to determine the nature of the potions the group found.

Not sure what the DC is - if I can just take 10 (Ilum's modifier is +12), I'll do that. Here are some rolls just in case. Kuddos on keeping everything moving, by the way - I've had games which would take 10 days to sort out the scene on the ship.

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij makes an unpleasant face at the dwarf's insinuation, which Ilum copies to the best of its ability. "I resent that, sir dwarf. I merely meant to point out that, as the smallest member of our boarding party, I was ill-equipped to provide the majority of the muscle in regards to transporting gear. I had no intentions of not contributing. Here....see? As he speaks this last sentence, Quij busies himself with gathering the maps, charts and captain's log found on the desk. "Paper," he grinned. "The perfect item to be carried by a fragile creature of the gods such as myself. I'm sure Ilum would be glad to carry some of that rope, too, if you need the assistance, kind sir."

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

As Torch begins to inspect the locked drawer, Ilum moves in close and helps him search for traps.

Just in case.

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij and Ilum wander about the ship, taking stock of things.

Qui Heal Checks:
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17, 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17, 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19

Ilum Heal Checks:
1d20 ⇒ 7, 1d20 ⇒ 14, 1d20 ⇒ 8

Perception Checks (for Qui's missing amulet):
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2, 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21

"Hmm...some good stuff in here. Any of you bigger fellows want to carry it?"

* * *
Quij grimaces in the act of inspecting the wounds they come upon. "Looks to me as though the cook's wounds were made by some sort of snake. And a large one, at that. Devers', however, were both animal and man-made: he took some damage from a rapier, but it was some sort of poisonous sting that done him in."

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

As Quij's eagle gets torn to shreds, reverting back to a pile of splinters, Qui raises his crossbow and fires at the bastard crustacean, with Ilum reloading and doing the same a split second later.

Quij Attack: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (12) - 4 = 8
Quij Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Ilum Attack: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15
Ilum Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

I included both the -2 for terrain and the -4 for shooting into melee, FYI.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Initiative - to simplify things I'm fine with just rolling for Qui and having him and the Eidolon acting at the same time.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Spying the sea scorpion, Quij mutters arcanicly and snaps his figures, transmuting a stray board into a Celestial Eagle. As the eagle swoops in, Qui draws his crossbow as Ilum takes a shot at the scorpion with its own.

Qui casts summon monster and draws his crossbow; the eagle will full attack if it can; if not, just use the first roll. Ilum fires its crossbow.

Ilum Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Ilum Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Eagle Attack/Damage (not sure if the -2 counts for the eagle, so factor it in if necessary):
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
1d4 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
1d4 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
1d4 ⇒ 2

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Qui and Ilum follow behind Torch, being careful to let the half-elf lead, and making sure to navigate carefully once they board the ship.

Perception rolls:

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij performs a little dance, ending it with a bow. "For those of you who haven't yet had the pleasure, my name is Quijiomientarae, though you're welcome to shorten it to your liking. I too would be interested in taking a look at the ship - I have some, uhm, personal affects, that I would prefer to search for if able to."

At Hrakar's concern at overloading the ship, Quij pats the dwarf's belly: "Well thought out - I imagine that's a common problem for one such as yourself. Me and Ilum put together, however, likely equals half of most of you, which perhaps makes us good candidates for performing an inspection. Plus, Ilum is currently quite gifted at spotting things. Leaning in to no one in particular, he adds, "I made him that way. Returning to his normal posture and speaking voice, the gnome presses on - "Right, anyway, we're up for having a look - any of you free beings are of course welcome to join us." With that, the irrepressible gnome heads off toward the ship, with Ilum following close behind, crossbow drawn.

Perception rolls for Qui and Ilum when they first get to the ship, both for anything interesting and to make sure they take a safe course.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij slaps Torch cheerfully on the back, with his eidolon mimicking the gesture. "You'll be fine! I've healed you...it might just take a few moments for the poison to run itself out of your system."

Looking around to the others, he crosses his arms and purses his lips doubtfully. "Well, I'm all for getting out there, but gods know if I have any ideas on how to do so. Any suggestions, folks?"

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

"Well, folks, beyond the obvious questions - such as how we got here - I believe the other ambiguity of note is just what do we do with ourselves now? Does anyone have any idea where we are?"

"I suppose searching for civilization may be our next step, although who knows what's out there."

Quij had also noticed by this point that the amulet he was transporting seems to be missing. Although he refrains from drawing attention to that fact, he makes a mental note of its disappearance, and of the possibility that it was left on the now-sinking ship.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

"Glad to see you're feeling better, good man - no need to thank me."

With that, Quij begins to further assess the party's situation. "Hmm...well this is quite a pickle we've found ourselves in...just how the h*ll did we get here?"

Without waiting for an answer, Quij takes a seat and begins working with the sand around him. With uncanny rapidity, he is able to build a mound roughly the size and shape as himself. Circling the mound, clearly pleased with his handy work, he stops in front of it, tilting his head and squinting his eyes, and snaps his fingers. In an instant, the mound transforms from a relatively featureless accumulation of sand to humanoid creature almost identical to Quij in shape and size. Atop both their foreheads, a distinct mark blows with arcanic power. "Folks, this is Ilum - I'm hoping he might be of some help to us." With that, the gnome and the entity begin to discuss the situation between them.

I'm going to make rolls for both myself and Ilum.

Heal:
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17
1d20 ⇒ 17

Survival:
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
1d20 ⇒ 9

Know (Geo) - the first roll will be Ilum's, I'll have it function as an Aid Another check to Quij's.
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

"Well, unfortunately, we haven't been able to come up with much. We do seem to agree that we were poisoned on the ship, and that's why none of us can remember how we ended up here."

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Good to know the progression we're on - medium should keep it gritty for a while. ; )

Brushing sand off himself, Quij jogged over to the pile of equipment to retrieve his gear. Having done so, he made his way over to Torch. "You're looking pretty rough, mate - you're going to need a proper healer. Not sure if there are any of those about, though (although Beer Breath has the power o' Torag or somesuch on his side), so maybe I'll take a look..."

With that, Quij begins inspecting the wound with something of a lack of gentleness. Meanwhile, the eagles he conjured are pecking away at the water, trying in vain for another crack at their retreated foe.

Aid Another Heal roll:

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

That's not gonna help. : )

I agree that a clarification as to whether the dice reduction of the bomb damage could be transferred to sneak attack damage would be helpful. I've had similar thoughts about the Master Chymist - since its levels stack with the alchemist's for determining bomb damage, would the same be true for the Vivisectionist's sneak attack? I would say yes, but it would be nice to have an official word on that.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Oops! Forgot that. Well, if BT'll let me change, let's just say I cast Guidance on one of the eagles. If not, no biggie.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Seeing that the dwarf has awakened, Quij calls out jovially, "Welcome to the party, lager-head!", making his way towards the remaining action in a manner halfway between a shuffle and a dance. Getting within range, he squints, cocks his head, and snaps his fingers. "Be damned, you ugly excuse for a crustacean!" Meanwhile, his east-end celestial eagle seeks to flay open the remaining foe as the west-end one swoops across the beach to contribute to the fray.

Move within range, cast Daze on the OE (DC 14).

Eagle 1
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
1d4 ⇒ 1
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
1d4 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
1d4 ⇒ 4

Eagle 2

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
1d4 ⇒ 2

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

As he watches his summoned eagles tangle with the scorpion-things on the beach, Quijio can't help but notice that one of the ship's passengers who is still passed is drooling excessively...

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Seeing the other remaining scorpion-creature beset the old sailor he had been talking to earlier, Quijio repeats the summoning process (this time transfiguring a piece of drift would that lay conveniently at hand), summoning another celestial eagle, this time to aid the old man.

Summon the second eagle at P13 if possible (can't remember how to measure diagonals). I'll roll a full attack for that eagle if it can be summoned adjacent to the OE, just use the first roll if it has to move into position first.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
1d4 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
1d4 ⇒ 3
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
1d4 ⇒ 3

Attack and damage rolls for the eagle near torch.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
1d4 ⇒ 3
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
1d4 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
1d4 ⇒ 2

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Quij rolls over, emerging from the fog of a dream that had something to do a terrible tasting stew that he nevertheless kept eating.

"What the he**!"

Snapping to life, he assesses the situation. Seeing a fellow shipmate in distress, he closes one eye and begins to picture an eagle. Having formed the image in his mind, he reaches down for a handful of sand, and throws it in Torch's general direction. Instead of dispersing, the sand coalesces, and *snap* - forms itself into the shape of an eagle.

Summon Monster I SLA - Celestial Eagle. Lasts for one minute. Summon it as close to torch as I can get (H14 or so).

Do you control the eagle or do I?

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Chewing merrily through his stew, Qui nods his head. "Yup, tastes funny, but variety is the spice of life!"

1d20+1=20

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Seeing the dwarve's annoyance, Quijio leans in to whisper: "I think the good chap is deaf, friend Hrakar. Or dumb. Or otherwise lacking in the entirety of the normal operative capabilities. In any event, I wouldn't take his lack of an answer personally, if I were you." Leaning back with a wink, he adds in a normal voice, "I myself am a traveler. I keep these travels funded by doing whatever sort of work I can come by. It's a combination of travels and work that have led me to be on this boat on this evening, talking to you fine fellows." At this last bit, the gnome claps both the dwarf and the man on their backs in a gesture that is as exuberant as it is friendly.

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

"By all means, beer-breath! Do join us," says the gnome good-naturedly as a dances a slight jig unconsciously in excitement. "I don't believe we've met," continues the gnome as he proffers his hand, I'm Quijiomientarae, which is a tongueful for most non-gnomes - feel free to abbreviate that and call me 'Qui'."

Male Gnome Master Summoner 1

Qui had come up above deck about an hour ago to enjoy the night sky, which, when coupled with the water's reflecting below, made for quite a show. Plus, it gave him an excuse to slip away from that windbag Aberwhinge before he got roped into the telling of yet another epic tale about such-and-such a mysterious ruin, or whatever the gnome would go on about. And I'm a gnome myself...I can't imagine what the humans and elves must feel like.

As he walked the deck, he passed the old man at the wheel who was attempting a tune. As he walked by, Qui whistled a much more in-tune accompaniment, winking at the old man as he did so.
