About Pollock Fisher

DocHub Character Sheet
Born to the simple, hardworking fisherman Trout Fisher, and his stalwart wife Oyster Fisher, Pollock Fisher has had it up to here with fishing. Throughout his adolescence, while his father tried to instill in him the knowledge and the joy of fishing, Pollock kept dreaming about having adventures on dry land.
During his youth, Pollock collected books written by travelers and adventurers. His father would throw them overboard if he found them, but Pollock learned to hide them well, and gained extensive knowledge of the local area, as well as the fisherman's skills of reading the wind and waves.
As young Pollock grew into his majority, Trout Fisher worried that his family line of fisherman would be broken, so he stayed away from large cities, preferring to sell his catches at smaller port towns, rather than at the Docks at Absalom, where he would have gotten better prices. This led his family into infrequent privations as the money would run out quicker.
The Fishers learned to set anchor in smaller rivers and re-provision their boat from the local wildlife and edible plants, free for the gathering. Pollock imagined himself on the hunt for dangerous animals, learning survival the hard way as he hunted small game on the shorelines.
The final impetus was when his father reluctantly accepted a fare from a party of Pathfinders for transport to Absalom, during a particularly tough fishing season. Trout Fisher knew that his son would hang on every tale the passengers told, but he had no choice since the fish had disappeared that year, and the usurious money-lender who had financed his fishing boat was on his heels for a handful of years of back-pay.
During that trip, Pollock pestered those Pathfinders for hours on the subjects of the Pathfinder Society, the city of Absalom, and the thrill of adventuring. The Pathfinders were forewarned of this by Trout Fisher, and attempted to dissuade young Pollock by spinning tales of hunger, danger, and not even getting paid at the end, but Pollock would not be deterred. He vowed to sneak away from his father's fishing boat when they docked at Absalom, and join the Pathfinder Society.
