Backstory: Phaerlin, the only son of one of the minor noble houses of Guul Draz, is something of an enigma amongst the nobility (and a sense of shame amongst his family): he aspires to be a paladin. He holds himself to the highest standards of honor and chivalry, protecting both cattle and servants alike. Unbeknownst to everyone, in order to accomplish his goals, he made a pact with an angel name Kassian who provides him with power in exchange for protecting the people of his land. His master has recently instructed him that there is great evil moving throughout the world, and that he should take up the mantle of the questing knight in order to battle it. Convincing his family to let him leave was not that hard: sending him away meant that he would not be around to be an embarrassment to the family. So, gathering up his belongings, he set off into a harsh world.
