Yeah... I'd sort of assumed we were through here.

It's been fun hanging with you guys, hopefully, we'll run into each other again in other games. ^^

No hard feelings, DM. I've been there. (I retired from a game last week, in fact.)

Out of curiosity, how did you guys envision your characters' stories developing?

My thought was that Peacock would find himself torn between his human and fey sides, and, in the end, choose the fey over the humans, but not quite in the way his fey mother would have wanted. He'd embrace the power and freedom that his powers offered him, but resent the Thistlefeather court for its belittling of humans. In the end, he would probably go on to create a fey court of his own, one kinder and more friendly towards the common folk.

As I'm still strangled for time for a week and a half or so, I'd say give him that time. Then, we can see about it.

A heads up to all my groups: I'm entering some of the craziest three weeks of my studies. I'm only that much away from graduating, and I have a lot of work to do. My posting will likely be somewhat lackluster during that time, so please forgive me for this.

Feel free to bot me as needed.

Hey all, posting this to all my games because I don't have much time:

I'll be very busy today; I'm on the tail end of my software engineering studies, and today is the commitment ceremony for the Quebecois Engineers' Organization.

As you can guess, this will leave me little time for PbP.

"So..." Peacock wonders out loud, "Sir Kane, are you planning to take the stones with you?"

"I... uh..." Adrien stammers for a moment.

"Well... they're just hanging out in the water, aren't they? They haven't made any moves to attack us or anything, maybe they just live here." He observes, unsure of what to make of the situation.

At Kane's outburst, Adrien reflexively flies up and above the middle of the platform, looking about for any signs of danger.

"I don't see it! What's going on?"

"Alright... let's see what happens..."

Adrien focuses on the fey lights and submerges them, curious to see what they will reveal.

"I... can't. It's like a mirror," Adrien says, kneeling at the edge of the water. Wary of touching it, he draws an arrow from his quiver and dips the fletched end into the water, looking for any reaction.

It is a grinning Peacock, rather than the meek Adrien, who chooses to answer:

"If you ask me, that means you could probably get revenge on that someone and force them to undo it if you want to."

"That... sounds really, really useful, actually. I wonder if we'd be able to take them out of this place."

I'm around, just waiting on Kane and Jazzai's reactions.

"Up here," Adrien says, flittering up to the stone snake's eyes. "I think these are magical too."

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Try as he might, though, Adrien fails to get an innate understanding of the eyes' magical aura.

"Miss Jazzai, do you feel it too?" He asks, lighting his dancing lights anew.

Aaaah. I understand now. Thanks.

"Just what is this place?" Adrien ponders out loud. As Jazzai's exploration catches his attention, he addresses her:

"We're in the middle of a really large cave; there's water going out every way, as far as I can see."

"The lights might go out for a moment. I need to see if there's any magic around here."

He focuses on the magic in the air, looking to find any auras in the vicinity.

I'm really struggling to visualize the room... Any hope I could get some kind of map or diagram?

Hey, I'm dropping this message to all my groups:

I've a huge spike in schoolwork as this week begins, and I might be a little late on posting. Should be over before this week ends, but please forgive me for the delay. i'll try and get posts up ASAP.

Weren't we looking to reverse it first?

"I... think so." Adrien says, hesitantly.

I asked a question in my last post, and I was waiting for an answer to it before I posted. From trying to activate it, does Adrien think he can reverse it?

Adrien hovers for a moment, in faint silence.

"... Um... There's the path we were looking for. I guess."

From what Adrien has gathered, would it be possible to trigger the mechanism to close back up?

Am I really going to do this? Trigger an unknown magical mechanism in an underground pyramid?, Adrien asked himself.

Would you rather be back on the farm? Peacock replied.

The boy smiled to himself, and stepped up to the pedestal, beginning to probe about.

Taking 20 on Use Magic Device, for a total of 25 after a bunch of attempts. We'll get this thing working eventually, I hope.

She can probably keep doing it while Peacock takes an equally long time taking 20 on Use Magic Device to get that thing running, heh.

"I know it might be dangerous, but it really might be our answer, too. If it can help Sir Kane, then I'm willing to take that risk," he explains.

"The... magic thing, whatever it is, is on a platform. However I look at it, I'm pretty sure it's meant to be the central point."

That, and I really really wanna see what it does.

"We could go take a look, but does anyone else have a light? I don't exactly want to leave you guys in the dark..."

As he ponders that question for a second, Adrien suddenly has an idea.

"Wait! Maybe this place is only meant to hold that magical thing. That would explain why there's just this room."

"... I could try to activate it. I don't know that I have a good shot at succeeding, but with how my magic's been getting stronger, it seems worth a shot." Adrien observes.

Adrien refreshes his light before again focusing on the magic. He indicates the area that the magic covers, wishing that he understood them better.

"It's this area here, the platform in the center of the chamber."

Yeah... that's the disadvantage compared to Light.

"Oops, my bad." Adrien comments as the lights wink out, returning his focus to maintaining his lights and making a mental note of where the aura was.

"It's around the platform in the middle of the room, right..." Adrien does a quick fly-around of the platform, to indicate the general area the aura covers. "... here."

Oh dear! Sorry. I'd been distracted and I forgot I was the one being waited on.

"I... can't tell what kind of magic this is. I'm sorry, I'm still really new to it all."

Adrien gasps as, to his eyes, the floor glows with a strange aura.

"I... think there's some magic on the floor here. I don't know if I'll be able to tell what it is, but I'll take a look."

He focuses deeper, hoping that these strange fey instincts he has been gifted with would tell him more.

"Whoa! This room is huge! I think it just keeps on widening underground. I see some mosaics and... whoa! Snakes! Snakes!" Adrien recoils in panic, until he takes a second look. "... nevermind. Sculptures." He gives a nervous laugh. "They're pretty big, too. I see some alcoves down there, but I can't see what's in them, it's too dark. There's a big platform in the middle with a bunch of braziers, too."

Detect Magic at the areas Peacock can see without going in too deeply.

"On it!" Adrien nods, venturing forth with marked confidence. He approaches the entrance as quietly as he can, and peers inside.

Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"Miss Jazzai! Hang in there!"

Peacock maintains the assault, unleashing a second volley of eldritch arrows.

Magic Missile: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8

Fly Check to hover: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23

In the blink of an eye, as the insect appears, Peacock draws the string of his bow despite not having knocked an arrow; to the observing eye, the position of his fingers seem to imply holding two arrows in place.

He lets go of the string, and two bursts of light manifest on the insect.

Magic Missile: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8

He also calls out some of the insect's more distinctive traits for Jazzai.

My apologies for being slow to post. I'm neck deep in finals. Expect a post by tonight, when I'll be on vacation.

"Careful, everyone," Peacock hesitantly says, fluttering about as the party climbs down. It's clear he's not feeling entirely confident about the process of bringing the non-fliers down to the ziggurat.

Sorry that I've been a bit less active as of late. I'm in my finals period. I should be back to full activity starting on the 20th.

"Mhm," Adrien nods, before swallowing a mouthful of breakfast which he might or might not have 'improved' with some prestidigitation magic while no one was looking. "It was huge! Like, a whole temple underground!"

Uh oh. Here's hoping we don't run into anything too nasty. Point taken about Detect Magic. I was just getting that out of the way.

I assume Adrien and Sir Kane got their weapons before going down, just in case?

"Whoa!" Adrien exclaims, flittering about and taking in the sight of the ziggurat. "What is all this?"

So that I can avoid saying it every time: assume that Adrien routinely detects around for magic when not under pressure.

"Should we fly down?" Adrien wonders, looking to Kane for answers.

I'm not sure our characters have much to be thankful for, though. :P

Happy Thanksgiving to you guys down in the states. ^^

"I'll go down with you. I'm curious about how it looks, and I might be able to see if there's magic down there."

Adrien guides the four wisps down, placing them on each side of the platform Kane is standing on, illuminating the area with gentle light.

"Sir Kane?" Peacock calls out, his Dancing Lights still hovering around him. "Do you need a light?"

"I don't think I could even left that harpoon, let alone throw it..." Adrien mumbles to himself.

Curious, he peeks about the cave, looking for traces of magic.
