About Patel of Cheliax
Patel was born to a family serving an old house in Westcrown and brought up on his grandmother's tales of the good old Empire of Cheliax, oral histories that could not be purged by the Order of the Rack's book-burnings. This patriotism rubbed off on him, and he decided that the only way to guarantee the safety of innocents was through strong rulership. Nonetheless, understanding the corruption of the current regime and his own lack of social graces, he chose to serve his country as a Pathfinder and to set a good example in the Chronicles. He managed to make his passage on a House Jeggare merchant vessel to Korvosa, starting his roundabout route to Absalom.
Like Chelish humans, Patel has pale skin and black hair. He wears his house livery openly, as both his Society and his cause require freedom of information. Although he has hope for the future, Patel's moral quandaries make him more somber than the typical halfling. His experience with his lord's hunting trips and the journey from Varisia to the Isle of Kortos helped show his worth and get him through Confirmation.
Although Patel respects foreigners' good intentions, he thinks that Andoran's piracy against other nations is not a proper way to go about it while demons and undead are knocking at the door. Nor does he condone the cruelty of Chelaxian diabolists nor worshipers of Asmodeus, but all he knows how to do to help is to work within the system by setting a good example. House Thrune would no doubt disapprove of his surreptitious emigration, but it remains to be seen whether his efforts serving his faction in the Pathfinder Society will mend his relationship with his homeland.
