![]() I have an idea for a rather brutal fighter who specializes in tripping, and then proceeding to beat the stuffing out of foes as they hit the ground. The issue is as a medium character my foot damage is underwhelming. The only way I can think to increase her stomp damage is a bladed boot, but it's disadvantages make me reluctant to try it. Anyone have any advice? ![]()
![]() I think you misunderstand me a bit. This crit table isn't just something I tossed in mid campaign to screw over my players. They all understand how it works and have been using it for dozens of sessions. She lost her leg because the maximum was rolled on several separate rolls. There was a natural 20 to begin the crit, and a confirm that beat her AC by more than ten. She got to roll for location and got leg. Now she got to roll a d12 for severity and rolled a 12, and then she proceeded to fail a fortitude save. I did not just chop off her leg to teach her a lesson. It's a game mechanic they've worked with for ages and used to their advantage on numerous occasions. I wanted to find a rule that would let the character recover in a way that was fair and entertaining. Not just "Screw it your dead." or "Meh, you're fine." I think I have an idea now. Thanks for the help. ![]()
![]() Rynjin wrote: My advice would be not houseruling in things you don't understand the long term consequences of, but that ship has sailed already. The issue is they are losing their respect for combat, running in like it's no threat. I want to teach them that combat is real bodily harm not just HP that one can wave their fingers and be fine. I understand her PC might end up completely banjaxed, but I'm not trying to help her get out of the consequences. I'm trying to break her in a fashion that seems fair. ![]()
![]() I think I'm going to forgo any ability score damage just to avoid things like losing a leg making you worse at picking locks or something silly. I suppose with lack of any rules about it and taking some inspiration from Imbicatus (Thanks mate) I'll just modify the recovering from negative HP a bit. Perhaps a couple of fort saves a day and -1 HP for a fail will do. I'm not sure about the lowered max HP... Perhaps some Con Damage that will take a month or two to go away? ![]()
![]() Recently a PC managed to lose a leg in a fight (Just above the knee) from a critical hit. I used the 2ed Player's option: Combat and tactics, Critical Hit Table for it and she had some rather unfortunate rolls. She was reduced to 0 HP and suffered severe bleeding. The tide of blood was stemmed and she was left in the negatives. My current issue is that I can find no rules anywhere in any edition or rule set for recovering after losing a limb. It seems everyone assumes as soon as they're back at 1 HP they are fine and dandy. I'm by no means an expert, but it seems to me that someone would not recover so easily from that kind of trauma. I'm wondering if any of you have seen any rules on that sort of thing. I also remember hearing from somewhere about reduced max HP until an amount of recovery time has passed, but that was years ago and I can't recall any details. Perhaps I'm being too strict, but I'd like to do this properly. Keep in mind I'm not asking for things like minuses to skills as a consequence of missing a leg. There are clear rules on that as are with prosthetics. I am simply looking for rules on recovering and surviving the trauma. Thanks in advance. |
