Liberty's Edge

I have a couple of cleric builds that I could submit late tonight if a healer is required. I actually prefer playing a cleric.

Liberty's Edge

I have two characters that I could bring in on this, I haven't played any of these scenarios.

Degwyn, a Human Polearm Master Fighter

Thalion, an Elf Spire Defender Magus <-- still sorting out the crunch but will have it up soon.

btw, this is Chuffy from your WBG session

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the heads up and good luck with classes.

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn looks at the brambles and shakes his head.

"It'll probably take less time to walk around this mess than it would to cut through. Burning it might work well in daylight but I imagine we'll have a hard time controlling the blaze."

Liberty's Edge

Not quite catching the sarcasm, Degwyn stumbles over his response blushing heavily. "Good sir, I'll have you know I do not take such things lightly. What I am suggesting is not that we limit this man's conscious free will or freedom. I simply mean we could take measures to further the safety of our fellow Mr. Kalkamedes while he is in this state."

He looks around to the others in the group.

"For his safety, that's all. You understand, right? Forget my suggestion, it's clearly been misunderstood."

He continues muttering under his breath "Damn it, why do I open my mouth sometimes. That's not what I meant at all. Misrepresenting the good people of Andoran. Damn it. Just be quiet and stick to what you know, fool."

Liberty's Edge

"Long night indeed... Thank Desna for the clear skies, though." Degwyn says softly as he positions himself on Kalkamedes' right side.

"I suppose if Mr. Kalkamedes causes too much trouble running into things and bangin' him self up we could put him on a leash or something."

Liberty's Edge

Sounds good and no worries from me. Thanks for checking in!

Liberty's Edge

"I hope we can help find what's tugging at him. Do you have any maps, maybe, that you could lend us? I'm not familiar with this area at all." He purses his lips in thought before continuing "And what are we likely to find out there in the night? Are we at risk of rousing a hive of goblins or devils or anything? ... water hazards or thorny brambles, environmental challenges? ... No lich tower, I hope... heh..."

Liberty's Edge

Just saw this gameplay thread - will post something in a bit (running to a meeting)

Knowledge Local (untrained): 1d20 ⇒ 1

Liberty's Edge

Aquanda, this is the list you should look at: Pathfinder Society Scenarios

Pathfinder Society Scenarios are short burst adventures (4 hours when playing IRL) that have specific rules around character creation, approved equipment, level advancement, etc. It's sort of like Living Forgotten Realms if you're familiar with that.

Liberty's Edge

This character has only played one scenario: The Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment. That is the extent of my PFS experience.

Liberty's Edge

I don't have any specific scenarios in mind, I'm happy to join whatever scenario I can fit into.

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn clenches his teeth and swings his glaive in another tight arc aiming to cut down one of the Dakang worms.

target: 1d2 ⇒ 2
power attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 - 1 = 11
(+2 flank, -1 power attack)
damage: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11
(+2 power attack)

Someone magic up a big fish and let's be rid of these worms!

Liberty's Edge

Gris - GM Xzaral mentioned the 1d2 roll in one of his posts (Sunday, 07:03 PM - US Pacific)

GM Xzaral wrote:

...

Filios needs to make a will save or become frightened. On to Round 3. Oh and any attacks against it, please roll me a 1d2 as well.

Liberty's Edge

Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 2 - 1 = 23
(+2 flanking, -1 power attack)
Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16
(+2 power attack)
1d2: 1d2 ⇒ 1

TWO!!?? An end to this trickery, devil! Degwyn shouts and cuts at what he thinks is the original Dakang worm demon.

Liberty's Edge

Round 2

Will Save: 1d20 ⇒ 1

... DOH!

Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 1 - 1 = 7
Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 - 1 = 13

double doh!!

In a panic, Degwyn unsuccessfully swats again at the worm demon with his glaive.

Liberty's Edge

By the light of the Inheritor, evil is revealed!

Eyes wide, Degwyn slashes down on the bed with his glaive (power attack).

1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 1 = 11
1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn adds his glaive, short sword and dagger to the fountain for blessing.

Here's to ousting the snake without further physical confrontation he jokes.

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn nods in agreement.

Thank you for hearing our case, friends. If baptism in the holy font is the agreed action, I lend my support in any capacity that seems fitting.

Looking at the ground for a moment Degwyn looks up to the lead aasimar If Dakang disagrees or refuses this test, what is the next appropriate action? What if he becomes hostile?

Oh yeah, what did happen to Gastidem?

Liberty's Edge

Please examine the truths we've found. We only wish to reconcile the differences between what Dakang is teaching and what we know of Koroda's teachings.

diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 5

Based on some of our rolls I think we'll have no trouble convincing them...

Liberty's Edge

These people are enslaved by Dakang's trickery and I cannot in good conscious agree to leaving without agreement that further action is required. I have no intention of making this tapestry my final resting place. If we leave here with Dakang still in power I hope you will all join me in suggesting a return visit with appropriate resources to free these people.

Degwyn begins pacing back and forth as he continues.

OR... Or we have as many temple followers visit the statuary and tomb as we can. Hope their vision clears. Approach the angels with cool heads he nods at Gristav and show them the truths we have collected.

He stops and lets the butt of his glaive fall heavily on the floor. If Dakang makes a move, we answer it in kind knowing full well we are acting in the best interest of the innocent people here. But, we cannot afford to have innocent blood boiled or spilled as it only makes us look like the bad guys.

Taking a deep breath and exhaling...

So, I guess I don't know how we proceed. I want to rest knowing Dakang's treachery has been revealed but this can get muddy fast if we're not careful.

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn follows along with the group, occasionally looking over his shoulder, around corners, etc. anticipating an ambush.

Just in case: perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Liberty's Edge

Indeed, Zhuang and the angels are probably our best start. We should avoid contact with Dakang until we have presented all of our truth to the worshipers. Hopefully we can convince them of his deceit before we confront Dakang.

Looking where the dretch fell and disappeared, shaking his head Such cowardice. We certainly need to be on our toes, Dakang knows we're on to him and it looks like things are going to escalate quickly. Good thing Kirrah was watching the door so we weren't taken completely off-guard.

Liberty's Edge

What the! This is bad! We need a plan!

Not sure what else to do, Degwyn swings again.

attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 5 - 1 = 22
damage (resisted): 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11

Liberty's Edge

I'm not sure flanking applies because I'm attacking with a reach weapon before he actually enters the door. If I'm wrong, I will smile and add +2 to the attack roll.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you, Fendahl! Now we have options should we suddenly need to evacuate this room.

Degwyn prepares to power attack as soon as the monster is within his reach.

att: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 5 - 1 = 15
dmg: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn steps forward intending to take advantage of both the doorway and his reach when the monster gets close.

I don't like dead ends. Fendahl, what will it take to get the door to the garden open?

Liberty's Edge

Dark days! It's the balor!

Liberty's Edge

Indeed, the folks in Almas will be very happy to see that artifact. Degwyn says nodding to Gristav.

Now we just need to figure out how this piece fits our puzzle. I hope it's the proof we've been looking for.

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn continues with the rubbings.

Xzaral:
How difficult is it to peek inside one of the unopened sarcophagi to look for scales? Also, as a player I see Gristav's Andoren logo by his name but as a player do I know we're of the same faction? This is my first PFS game so I'm not sure how much is supposed to be a secret.

I've been thinking about this and it's chewing at me too, Gris... Even if we don't find solid evidence of Dakang's deceit here in the crypt I can't leave while things in the temple are as they are now.
He pauses for a moment.
Dakang has to go. Hopefully we can find our proof and have the support of the temple inhabitants. If the proof we need eludes us, we need a plan. Hopefully everyone present is on board... He looks up at the group to gauge whether people are open to the idea of toppling the tyrant Dakang.

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn helps with the etchings paying special attention to the contents of the sarcophagi from which the skeletons rose.

If these risen dead are by the hand of Dakang there must be something here that proves his guilt. Perhaps something to do with these etchings or burial rites?

Checking for anything that might stand out like do the temple aasimar or Dakang dress in the same robes and trappings pictured on the sarcophagi. Any presence of face painting or a scarf over the mouth, etc.
perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Liberty's Edge

Another shot at the western-most skeleton:

attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 1 = 10
damage: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16

Distracted by the thought of a Balor (whatever that is) laughing somewhere, Degwyn's glaive finds no bones as it completes a tight heavy arc through the stale crypt air.

I'm going to have to practice rolling dice later...

Liberty's Edge

Agreed, Gris. I was going to suggest pulling back to funnel the baddies through the door if we don't deal significant damage soon.

Liberty's Edge

5' step west and power attack the western-most skeleton with glaive.

att: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 1 = 8
dmg: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9

grumble grumble unfriendly dice...

Liberty's Edge

Following Filios' lead, Degwyn runs into the crypt and hops up on one of the sarcophagi (presuming it's shut, of course) and prepares to engage one of the skeletons.

Liberty's Edge

*cries*

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn casts a worried glance at Keebler, now nervous about what may be behind the crypt door.

Dark Days... Well, standing here telling scary stories isn't getting us any closer to completing the mission and going home. If a balor comes flying out and eats us all, well, that's what we get for sticking our noses in this business. The only way to know for sure is to open that door.

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn readies himself near the doorway should trouble erupt from the crypt.

Liberty's Edge

Just to be sure it wasn't missed, we dismantled the kiss of Korada and destroyed the flayleaf plant, yeah?

Degwyn occasionally glances over his shoulder, worried that Dakang may try to impede their exploration now that he knows we have his number.

Indeed, the people here need to accept the truth and our best course of action is to provide solid evidence of Dakang's tampering. If we go cut him down without the support of the worshipers we could end up in a bad spot. May the Inheritor, Korada and any other divine spirit guide our actions that we find the necessary proof and bring it forward... Because I'd like to wipe the hidden smile off that guy's face.

Liberty's Edge

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 14

Liberty's Edge

agree with gristav and the reason degwyn checked gastidem to see if he's afraid, etc

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn looks to Gastidem to gauge his reaction to Dakang's summons.

To the aasimar: Please understand it is not our intention to bring violence here, we only wish to bring our findings to light. If our understanding is accurate, there is foul trickery in the works. Thank you for your patience, if we find more evidence we will bring it forward. Meanwhile, we will dismantle Gastidem's trap as he has already admitted publicly to what it is and Master Zhuang has viewed it prior to our tampering.

To the Pathfinder team: Let's stop in the garden to dismantle the turtle trap and destroy the flayleaf bush. Then, the statuary and crypt to find any other evidence that we can present to the temple inhabitants here. An outright attack on Dakang would incriminate us rather than convincing the innocent folks who are being fooled.

Liberty's Edge

oh, the diplomacy roll was for the aasimar not gristav

Very well, sir.

Liberty's Edge

With his hand still outstretched, Degwyn moves forward eyeing the aasimars in case they decide to escalate the situation.

Mr. Gristav, I think it's best we don't crowd our friends here. A few paces backward if you will, please. Glancing up to Dakang and back to the aasimars he continues I ask again, please let us present the information we've uncovered. Let's exhaust our words before we engage with weapons. We came here with peaceful intent and only wish to discuss some inconsistencies we've discovered. There should be no reason to fear discussion of the truth.

Probably a pointless roll but I'll throw it in just to roll dice
diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Liberty's Edge

Dark Days! I was hoping we'd do this differently...

Degwyn scans the room to see how people are reacting to the accusations.

Let's be calm and hear the evidence that needs to be provided. We've stumbled on some questionable things in the short time since our arrival. He says holding his hand out as if attempting to comfort the temple inhabitants. If there is truth to what we've discovered, I'm afraid you've been enslaved by deception. Please hear us out, we do not wish to engage in unnecessary violence...

Liberty's Edge

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

Degwyn politely declines any attempt to mark his face or otherwise be involved directly in the ceremony.

Liberty's Edge

I agree, this party is a great deal of fun.

Gristav, I'm really enjoying your dialog.

Thanks to Xzaral and everyone else.

Liberty's Edge

Degwyn gets the attention of the others (before Filios gets too far away) to have a whispered conversation with them.

(whisper)If Dakang doesn't know we suspect he's up to something he cannot encourage our dismissal from the temple or make our movements difficult. Perhaps we focus on completing our mission, gather more evidence if possible before bringing this truth to the people here? What do you think?

He peeks around the group and toward Gastidem then back to the whispered conversation. We should ensure the flayleaf plant is destroyed and the turtle trap is disabled. I think we should stay together in case things get sticky, if you want to stay for the ceremony I'm with you.

Liberty's Edge

Like Fendahl, Degwyn stands aside and lets the others speak for the group. He remains calm and quiet while doing his best to appear non-threatening as long as the discussion doesn't get too heated.
