Paragraph about why a local noble would hire:

Oridak is a man of the land, dry and wet. He has been hired to track missing people that have been pulled off into the wild by man or beast. Between him and his companion Marzgi, they always find their target… dead or alive.

He finds himself at the Barrelhouse between jobs. It is close to the west gate leading into the woods, and has access to the canal for Marzgi to lay hidden from eyes and hunt. Those in this area know that where Ordak is, Marzgi isn’t too far behind.
