"I was raised by gnomes. You know that one book a gnome wrote that is outright banned in most countries? Yeah... I eventually gave up and read it. It was either that or increasingly worse pranks."

We're popular, huh?

Oneiro's Earth and Tryko'Sam's Earth are not necessarily the same place - could be the same planet but in different dimensions.

This is correct, and actually came up when Tryko'Sam first started up. My earth is pretty much the same as present day Earth.

Oneiro sat in the library again and ignored the glares he got from the librarian. He was only doing research. No magic at all! He just needed to know more about a few possible locations....

"Wel," Oneiro says as the reach the drop point. "I'll see you guys sooner or later. Thanks again."

"I couldn't agree more. Ice and snow may be fine for Tybalt, but I can't wait to wash off the grime of battle in a hot bath."

We're already walking, and Jeran wandered off.

"No crying. It'll make my paper soggy !" He laughs, smiling.

"Can you use playing cards for that or is it not enough paper?"

He asks, reminded of something he thought of earlier.

p

"Too processed for traditional paper magic. Best I can work with is wax paper. I'll show you tomorrow, 'Kay?"

"Thanks, but let's just hope it doesn't. Stuff like this is fun when it doesn't involve half of my abdomen being eaten. Anyways, see y'all back at school."

He stands with his oversized cane out once again. For once he actually uses it to lean on instead just hold.

"I sincerely hope you never get chewed on on one of these expeditions again. Thank you, everyone."

"We'll, Pyry, I guess we'll see you back at school. Good luck."

"If we go back to the drop point like Tybalt suggests, we should all get transported back."

"Ya. Fire beasties hurt. I don't have anything I could do about it on my own, but I didn't want to bother anyone about it."

He admits, somewhat ashamed of needing something from someone.

"Well, we've still got Skeets for healing, right? He can heal you as we walk."

"I think we're all gonna be alright, Tybalt." Oneiro answers, sitting down and resting. "you okay though? Looks like you got snagged."

Very little occurs as Tyrrin's group continues on their way, but Tybalt and David both notice that Oneiro is becoming nervous. He's breathing faster and he's looking around more often, almost like he's hearing things. When asked, he just mutters something about needing to leave and then runs ahead. When he triggers a trap and becomes pinned under rubble he looses all composure. It doesn't take long for Dave to find the curse placed on him and remove it.

Once calm and free, he explains his bout of claustrophobia can mean only one thing: the book is in the direction they're going. He repeats this when the groups meet up again, and they head back towards it, fighting off more remoras than ever. Finally, at the wing's exit, he suggests everyone uses whatever long-term magic abilities or mental powers they have before leaving the maze. It's good advice...

The cavern they enter is covered in the same material they encountered before, and the spheres embedded in it can only be eggs of the giant remorhaz in the center of the room, easily towering above any the group had seen. The large green gem embedded in it's chest marks it as the Guardian, and it screeches it's battle cry as it lunges forward to attack!

The battle is long and difficult. Even outnumbered the beast holds it's own, and it's only when Tyrrin realizes that it grows stronger anytime a spell or power is used nearby that the tide of battle turns, ending a while later with Dave dropping Jeran from high up and the lycan using the extra momentum to deliver a truly crushing blow. With the beast finished, destroying it's gem is easy.

Finding the book is somewhat harder. It takes hours, and the remorhaz that enter the chamber regularly aren't helping. It's Tybalt that finds the black box from Tyrrin's vision, and Oneiro that feels the power coming from it. This time the book was not, actually, a book, but a box covered with runes and symbols on the inside.

time to head back.

Well, I'm going to put it to a vote from those involved.

I have thought of a way to continue the expedition, including the guardian, but I'm not sure I can still make a good show of it.

Continue: yay or nay?

"Well, let's check the wing exits. Good luck, and stay safe, okay? I'm not getting expelled because someone up and kicked the proverbial bucket."

Catch me up on the expedition plan, Tybalt?

"If we decide to split up into two groups, we should at least explore this hallway further as a whole first. We have was to communicate while apart, so that's not an issue either."

David.De'Foul wrote:

"fair enough," dave nods "but first let me check, make sure your not simply under a compulsion to go back into the maze and waste time"

he manifests the detect compulsion power.

There are no compulsions on Tyrrin(that I know off).

"At the very least the Maze may be a safe place to rest and prepare for further exploration."

"That's good at least. With any real luck he'll be fine when we get back to him."

"This may sound cold... but he has survived here far longer than we've even known about the mountain. Given the way he fights, he's probably quite safe." Oneiro doesn't sound convinced though, and looks back at where they came from for a moment.

"Should we go in after her? We'll be able to track her inside the spell.. assuming we all go to the same one..."

They wait. And wait. The ten minutes are up and Tyrrin doesn't reappear in the hallway.

"I hope your string works, Tybalt..."

"We would have to leave Tybalt behind if he doesn't have that spell on him, and I don't want to leave anyone alone in this mountain."

After a minute the maze effect reappears.

"Well, unless we want to expend magic every half a minute, we might have to risk the maze.."

It seems to take forever, but eventually Dave melts through the rock and reveals a thin hallway leading down at a slight sloe before curving.

"I didn't ready that spell today. I might be able to emulate it though."

The scent of the remorhaz is thick, and only gets stronger the further on he checks.

"That could bring them all down on us at once."

With two more remorhaz all but confirming the way, the group makes there way to the closest spot on the map to the 'empty' area.

Ugh. Um, where did we leave off?

With Tybs no doubt still on the look out for traps(and possibly secret doors), Oneiro takes time to think of a possible plan.for them gemstone beast if and when they found it.

"If it came from that direction, chances are we'll meet more that and it's where we want to go."

Dave's power burrows deep into the remorhaz's mind, making it collaspe as sleep takes it compketely.

"Well done, Dave."

Was it a wall of ice again, Tybalt?

The collapsed tunnels do lead to other parts of the temples, yes. You can get to them from other areas, but the collapsed ways were quicker.

"Well, let's see if we can find anything else. I'm expecting to find more remorhaz soon too."

"Just one, but we still encountered the guardian, or guardians in that case, before we found it. For all we know we passed it up and will have to search this part of the temple again."

"Well.. we came in from the top.. right about here. Then we went down this hallway.. then this one.. I believe we're right here, which makes this big room right here the library."

Oh, there's something in that space. >.>

Could you explain a bit more on what you're doing, Tybalt?

"I've got a spell I was saving in case we got caved in and needed to get through the stone quick. We could use it to check the area a little."

The room is quite dusty.

"I'm not sure. There has to be a reason not to excavate all that space and use it, right?"

"It's supposed to be..."

The necklaces are worth one hundred gold together, with the magic bring that up to around two thousand*. Nothing happens to Dave.

*I'm not looking up the actual price of the shield other property.

"If remorhaz made this stuff, I doubt you could, Dave. Jeran, can you and Dave break through the door to the other room too?"

"Well, I might be able to cut through, but if that sets off the alarm, we could have a mountain of bugs coming for us."

"Did you figure out the magic though?"

"So what do you think it is?" Oneiro calls up after them.

"She teaches in the elementary school, I think."

"Hmm. I dunno. They're all we've seen here other than Pyry. By the way. Why didn't you bring him with you?"
