Well, I feel pretty silly. I placed a substantial order back in September that was shipped on October 5th (Order #1811439.) One of the items was a Core Rulebook, which I shelved right away as a back-up because I already had a copy of this. I didn't check the book for missing pages because I've never had to do this in the past. A few weeks ago, I donated my old copy of the rulebook to some folks who were just getting into Pathfinder. Then, last night I pulled my new copy off the shelf only to discover that it is missing pages 9-24. It may be missing more, I dunno because I haven't checked every page. The book is still in mint condition. Is there anyway you guys can remedy this? I can provide photos if you wish, but mailing it back would cost almost as much as just going down to my FLGS and buying a new one ( I'm just north-east of you on Vancouver Island in Victoria, Canada.) Thanks in advance.
Can't wait until my case arrives. My four "heroes" figures need more figures to play with - they're kinda' lonely right now. :) The Chimera looks great. Who woulda' thought at this time last year, that we'd be looking at pics of Pathfinders Minis and discussing the second set? Time flies when you're having fun! Keep up the great work Paizo.
I finally got mine today. It's funny, I'm only a 3 hour drive from Paizo's headquarter's, just over the border, but the shipping (due to customs delays) is unbearable sometimes. Oh well, "c'est la vie!" Anyways, these look fantastic! Awesome job on these, all around. Great sculpts and paint jobs. There is no doubt that these are the finest pre-painted minis, period. As some have said the eyes are a little small, though it really isn't that much of an issue - nothing that a fine point Sharpie won't take care of! What sticks out more to me, is Ezren's right arm. Is it me, or does it look disproportionately smaller? I don't know, but it feels that way to me. Again, not really a big deal, but just an observation. As for the plastic "blobs", they don't bother me at all. I understand perfectly why they are there, and I don't feel that they get in the way at all. One thing that I am really loving is the bases these are on. Finally, somebody got it right! Bases that are solid, and aren't going to curl up and get warped. +20 right there! All in all, I am super happy with these and can't wait until the rest come out. Way to go Paizo!
Pawns = win. I would love to see pawns that cover all the Bestiaries, AP's, Modules, and Character Classes, done to scale and with appropriately sized bases. Releasing these would certainly not stop me from purchasing the miniatures line (I do have the Beginner Box Heroes coming already as well as a case of Pathfinder Battles and the Black Dragon.) For me, the pawns would simply serve duty until, naturally, they could be replaced with a miniature counterpart - once it was released. Also, the pawns are real nice for ease of transport. These would also be awesome as a standard pack-in included with future Ap's and Modules, or at least be available for purchase separately. Undoubtedly, you'd see a huge increase in flip-mat sales too.
I too, agree with all the sentiments expressed here already. Let me add to this list, one of the things that I value immensely from Paizo: Reliability and familiarity. When I pick up a new book from Paizo, I know EXACTLY what to expect in terms of quality, format, and layout. Their brand is consistent. There's no low quality "filler" products with them. Though I might know what to expect in this department, they still manage to surprise me with other things - and in good ways. I was so disappointed when DDM minis were canceled. While they were in regular production, I often wondered why somebody else couldn't do "minis" - but better. Well, who picks up the torch and carries us forward? You got it - Lisa Stevens and Co.! When Pathfinder Battles was announced, I was so overjoyed, not only for the new minis, but for Paizo, too. It spoke volumes to me. And that's only a single example of what I'm talking about... I'm not usually a "fan-boy" type, but I really dig the way they do the things they do. They have definitely earned my respect and trust. I wish them nothing but happiness, health, and prosperity for their future. Cheers to Paizo!
I pre-ordered the Beginner Box in September. I received an email on October 17th saying that this was now leaving the warehouse to be shipped to me. I have been waiting VERY patiently, but...it still has not arrived. I am so disappointed, as I have been missing out on all the fun and have been looking forward to this. How much longer is this gonna take? The wait has been unbearable.

Evil - thanks for not jumping down my throat. I'm definitely not wanting to provoke people. I pretty much agree with everything you've written so far. The way I see it, everybody was happy with Pathfinder the way it was before BB. Then, BB comes out and there are hollers for change. I don't feel that change is needed at all. I feel that finding ways to introduce new players to the game *was* needed, and that need has been met. This box set wasn't designed to "change" the game, but was designed to serve as an entry point. I am definitely in the camp of " keep things the way they are." The majority of players that I know (and play with) feel the same way.

Clarification: SOME people want it - not everybody. I get that some people like the presentational style of the Beginner's Box. I think it admirably achieves it's goal in teaching people how to play the game. However, I prefer the look of the regular books the way they are. I think they are far more elegant and have a more "mature" feel (to me.) I don't like stylistic changes in an edition. However, I would welcome it in a future edition, provided that it doesn't make me feel like I'm being spoon-fed. The goals and presentation of the BB make sense. That's not to say that I don't believe in clarity - but rather, that there is a balance between clarity and style. Personally, I think that the style used in the BB reminds me a lot of reading a strategy guide for a video game.

It's been said before, but I'll repeat it: just drop the rules you don't want from the full system to keep the BB feel. Voila! Is that really so hard? I don't understand why people can't just accept the fact that this product was made as an entry point. Nothing more, nothing less. Seems rather straight-forward to me.

That's funny - my dad told me "If I ever catch you playing that game, I'll kick your arse up to your shoulders!" He of course, was under the impression that D&D was a "devil-worshiping" game. This was back around 1979. LOL. I started playing the game right away.

Doh! I meant to include that specifically along with the miniatures comment, but forgot that detail somewhere in the translation between brain, fingers, and keyboard. That is good news (potential of new edition being a long ways away.) I suspected as much. Thanks for setting my mind at ease Vic.

I too, can appreciate the layout of the statblock in this set. That said, I personally would NOT like to see this format used in the next bestiary, or in any other "regular" book for that matter. The regular books are gorgeous, and I may be wrong, but I think many players like the way they are as is. This box is designed to bring new players into the game, and make it easier to understand the basics of the system. It is only a small leap from there into the regular books. Personally, I don't think a change is needed or warranted in the layout outside of the beginner box. What's with the people chattering about a "2nd Edition" Pathfinder? Seriously, that kind of talk leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I will continue to purchase PF releases (including Beginner Box) minis, and pretty much anything else that comes out for the system. But after playing for 30 years, I tend to strongly dislike the financial cost of starting into a new edition. Paizo is simply excellent at what they do, and I'm willing to bet that they are resourceful enough to be able to figure out how to bring in new players to the game, and keep the rest of us already engaged, well, .. engaged! I would say that the decision to do a full line of minis is evidence of that. Regardless of my speculation, I don't even want to entertain the idea of a new edition ( for a few more years at the VERY least!) so let's please forget the words "2nd Edition" ok? Please? I like the design philosophy in the Beginner Box, and I think that they have really hit the nail on the head, in terms of what it is designed for. Keep up the great work!
OK. I've been sitting quietly for a few years now reading these threads and never joining in. At last, I am finally compelled... Lisa, Vic, and the rest of the people at Paizo: I think that this is a wonderful step forward, and I share your enthusiasm and excitement regarding this upcoming release. When I first saw the mini's for the Beginners Box, I was immediately impressed with the quality of both the sculpts and the paint job and thought to myself "Wouldn't it be great if they did a full line of miniatures?" Well, my wish has been answered. You should be proud of yourselves. I'm willing to bet that these are going to be the best looking mini's EVER produced for a fantasy RPG game. I think the price point is also appropriate for these, and I think that the booster price is great. Sometimes, I find that I might be in my gaming shop of choice just yucking it up with the owner, and there isn't anything new to buy (I have EVERY Pathfinder release that you guys have put out!)but I still wanna throw the guy who owns it a little dough for humoring me. It used to be that I'd buy another set of dice to fit that purpose, but now I have a $4.00 booster to fill that role instead. And don't get me wrong, I'll definitely be purchasing these by the case too. My only hope for this line is that sculpts will be made for ALL creatures in the Beastiarys. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to create an adventure and having no mini to represent a particular monster on the table. Sure - there are ways around this, but who really wants to use a token or some other thing that doesn't fit in with your miniatures collection? After spending a lot of money on mini's, it just an eyesore to have to resort to that. I also believe that this was a factor in the downfall of the DDM line. Also, a "mini's game rules" to go along with the figures is not necessary and will steer away from the main focus in producing these in the first place - although that's not to say that an excellent "battle game" couldn't be created as a supplement book for future production. If you were to create such a system, it shouldn't revolve on the rarity of cool pieces, but rather, it should be about effective combat unit building and strategy. In other words, it should NOT be about driving up the price of plastic for no good reason except to gain a power in a skirmish game. Personally, I wouldn't bother with it at all. It has been amazing to watch how Paizo has grown into the being that it is now, from it's early roots. I think that this decision was an exceptionally big one for the company, and that it speaks volumes about how much you guys actually do care about your customers and the growth of the line. Don't let anyone pee on your courage - you guys are doing a great job, and I take my hat off to you guys for delivering one of the best RPG's this old gamer has ever had the pleasure to play. Congratulations. Now, I must look into getting rid of these hundreds of DDM minis...it sure is going to be a heck of a lot of work typing up the list for them all. |
