Do you have my character sheet or should I post it here?

Hey all, I am sorry but I need to bow out. Work has been steadily picking up the past few weeks and family life is getting crazy also. Thank you for the game though! I really enjoyed writing the Edderkopp history, stay sane!

Nils does a quick look towards the table as they pass, but follows Mayfield across the front room to the door

Nils, still shellshocked, will follow Mayfield either direction

[ooc]Not a problem, work has been insane this last week[\ooc]

Nils looks vacantly at the hand on his shoulder, but that brings him out of the flashback and he shudders himself back to the present, "No flashlight, I don't have any fire starters, did you see where the kitchen is in here?" Nils looks around his immediate surroundings to see where the kitchen would be

Regular is 40, so difficult would be 20

listen: 1d100 ⇒ 63

As soon as the recognition of what the sound is hits his mind, Nils drops to his knees and covers his head with his hands, "Down Mayfield, DOWN"

Awesome, I will add that to the character sheet, thank you!

Nils shakes his head, "I don't know, fire if they are similar to other arthropods? I have never seen the warding disks, if they even worked at all so I have no idea what symbolism they had aside from the creatures name...we have to get back to the tent. Maybe that madman will take us back to reality". He thinks for a minute then slaps his knee, "You know what, I might remember a bit of an old parchment that was found at a dig that might have an effect, however small"

Nils gasps, "Its the creature from outside! There are some legends that resemble the thing...but there is no saying, assuming this whole thing is real , what the devil it is and what it wants"

What is known: The edderkopp was an obscure minor being in Nordic mythology: Never written into the poetic Eddas or any of the other surviving well known documents of Nordic history, but hinted at in a few lucky finds of carvings made on clay disks that were placed on a post that were driven into the ground on the outskirts of settlements that bordered a thick forest or a nearby cave/ravine. As of the present day, only three of these carvings have been found, all at the same excavation site and they were nearly destroyed by the archeologists who found them due to their fragility. The symbol was of a central mass and either 6 or 8 lines coming out from it (assumed to be legs) that wound themselves into knots that, at first glance had little pattern and were therefore assumed to be purely decorative. However, upon further study by experts in the field, it was found that they resembled runes. Upon further study, the name 'Edderkopp' was decoded, mainly because it is the modern Norwegian name for 'spider'. Upon further investigation and translation, other runes were identified that shone further light on the historical purpose of the clay disks: The researchers concluded that, for whatever reason, this settlement had reason to fear some type of insect or arachnid that would stealthily attack from along the ground or the air, although it was not clear if they feared abduction, slaughter, or something worse. No other similar artifacts were found in any other settlement up to modern day and the clay disks are subject to much debate among Norse scholars.

Is this kind of what you were looking for? Or did you have more of a mythological view of the creature in mind?

So just to be clear Cirle, since I passed that anthropology test I am coming up with some lore based in Scandinavian or Celtic mythology to decide what made the track in the house? Or is it linking to the mess we found outside?

Additionally, that is a +3 to my Mythos, yes?

His regular anthropology is 61, so extreme is 12 I believe...come on dice!!

anthropology: 1d100 ⇒ 3

Nils goes over to where Edward is standing and takes a look at what he found

can I roll to know anything specific about the tracks? Namely how long they have been there, what direction, what made the prints, et cetera.

"That sounds like Doc out there, seems that that damn creature didn't get him after all. Don't know what he is saying, can you make it out?"

Spot hidden skill is also at 45%

spot hidden: 1d100 ⇒ 62

Nils moves as quietly as he can to the right through the living room and stops at the edge of the island wall to his left. He peaks around the corner

Nils starts moving further into the room, "I would rather know what it is we are facing than take our chances back out there" Nils says, trying to sound confident, "Back me up Mayfield, will ya?"

Nils puts a hand on Mayfield and a finger over his own mouth. Upon getting his attention he points towards the back of the house, "A sound from back there". Nerves back again for the moment, he looks around for something he can use as a cudgel in a pinch

Oh no worries at all!

listen: 1d100 ⇒ 38

Nils catches up to Edward, helps him through the doorway of the farmhouse, and slams the door behind them. Seeing the paint on the wall, Nils stares at it for a few seconds, then looks around the room for something to defend himself with

Nils' eyes go wide and tries to catch up with Mayfield, [b]"Mayfield! Damnit that thing flies!"[/]

Is it coming towards us or just flying up?

Nils' listen score is 40

listen: 1d100 ⇒ 32

Sorry, had this typed out a few days ago and got distracted

Nils freezes for a few seconds, torn between retrieving the favored gun to helping Doc and saving himself, but fear and the unbelief that the thing attacking them is real drives him to abandon both, following Mayfield out of the barn. He doesn't get to him before he falls and gets back up but shouts as Mayfield looks back, "Run man run! We will wake and it will all be fine! We will be fine! This can't be real"

Luck is currently 41

luck roll: 1d100 ⇒ 89

Nils, shaking from the sight of the creature drops to the ground to try and recover his weapon

dexterity check or some other skill?

yes the 100d100 was a mistake, I messed up on the dice syntax when typed 1d100, 1d100. Nils sanity is 61

sanity: 1d100 ⇒ 23

Nils hands are shaking and in the available light he looks ashen, eyes wide in terror "No-no-no-no...", but he manages to take a few steps backwards towards the door

Nils is pretty freaked out so he will probably let three shots fly, then get control of himself. Regular handgun skill is 40

handgun first shot bonus dice: 100d100 ⇒ (3, 6, 76, 8, 59, 61, 56, 84, 60, 23, 26, 80, 31, 58, 38, 82, 64, 40, 38, 64, 44, 96, 86, 19, 40, 9, 84, 21, 47, 20, 82, 96, 67, 52, 64, 91, 88, 35, 93, 28, 97, 71, 98, 48, 30, 10, 66, 84, 53, 32, 46, 57, 73, 56, 88, 94, 98, 6, 36, 45, 27, 64, 31, 20, 8, 19, 36, 26, 33, 85, 21, 4, 59, 53, 19, 77, 28, 68, 62, 2, 43, 43, 19, 27, 44, 82, 1, 87, 14, 43, 58, 48, 86, 56, 99, 9, 18, 79, 40, 18) = 4963
handgun second shot: 1d100 ⇒ 67
handgun third shot: 1d100 ⇒ 100

edit: taking the 3 and 6 as the bonus roll since I screwed up the code (if that works for cirle), one hit and two misses. Does the 100 on that third shot mean the gun jams or explodes or something?

That is all Nils needed to trigger the fear, he empties his clip at the creature emerging

how would this handgun test work? Multiple checks with increasing difficulty, a single check for all? Also, I apologize for the silence, on a family trip for the month so responses will be spotty.

Nils eyes widen in terror, "Oh s~@&!" looks around for a fire source, "Burn it, burn the whole place down. Better that than letting whatever that is out"

Nils has a mild fear of spiders...nothing debilitating but definitely a bit more than the average person

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Nils, starting to get more nervous after the corpse, draws his pistol. After seeing the form he is fascinated, and takes a few steps closer to it, peering at the thing. He asks Elagabalus, "What the hell is it?". His pistol is gripped in his hand which is hanging at his side

Nils shakes himself out of his morbid daze, "Lets go check that out Mayfield and company". He then takes off at a brisk walk to the barn

"You two doctors, do either of you have medical experience? Mine is relegated to history", Nils says hopefully, taking a step back from the corpse

Nils looks away from the scene, "A grizzled mess to be sure. You ever seen something like this?"

normal spot hidden score is 45, difficult is 22

spothidden: 1d100 ⇒ 70

Nils follows, hands in his pockets and looking sullen. He also peers at the dog sadly, "Damnit Mayfield, there is no way this whole thing is a circus trick, maybe he slipped us something and we are dreaming" noticing the damage done and how old the kill is he steps back, "careful you don't catch something from that corpse there." any tracks or other markings around indicating direction of the attacker?

Checking in, seeing how you both are doing. I have a bit more work to do this week but nothing crazy so I am good to jump back in anytime

Hey Cirle, I need to pause for this and next week. Next week is finals week so all my students are getting their final projects and stuff in this week and I am swamped. Feel free to carry on without me but I will be back around Memorial Day.

Nils is starting to look cold and thinks for a second then and nods in grim acceptance, "Shelter, yes shelter...wait..." whipping his head incredulously to Elagabalus, "...the future?? How far? How? Why did you do this to us?"

Nils is wearing the typical university professor suit, Wow, what? WHAT? Did on purpose? We clearly are not here...I mean where we were..." Nils holds his head in his hands as he stands shakily up, keeping his eyes closed, "what in the name of all that is holy did you do?"

not sure if I saw curse words prior to this, you ok with them cirle?

sanity: 1d100 ⇒ 93

Nils sanity is 65

Nils sways a bit and manages to sit on the ground, "W-what is happening?"

Wide eyed, Nils' head whips around, not having seen train tracks on the way in (and not realizing that most circuses travel by train). He backs up to the outside and hollers in, "What? What is happening again?"

Nils steps forward, grabs Elagabalus by the shoulders and shakes him, "Damnit man, snap out of it!" he then glances at the alligator again and steps back

Nils waits patiently, keeping as far from the alligator as he can without appearing rude

Whispering back, "Yes, with that mask I think so"

Confused for a second, then he gets it, "Tex? No...Well yes, is there a reason for the name? Just a fan of Roman rulers?"

Walks back over to stand by Mayfield, keeping an eye on Nero and mutters something about a mad emperor

Nils jumps a bit, "Geez, is that thing chained??"

I teach high school and this virtual learning environment thing is way more work than I thought. I love that I don't have to drive, teaching is still a lot of fun, but I severely underestimated the amount of prep and adjustments I needed to make for this. Grateful to be woking still though
