Nicodemus is a twitchy ratfolk, constantly palming a pocket of red sand and sniffing it. It calms her. She wears a broody black cloak and shifts her eyes around far too much. She's very nervous.

Nicodemus grew up in the downtrodden sewers of the Varisian city of Riddleport. It was hard to come by the necessities of life, back then, and she was overly protective of any scraps she could scrounge up from mom and dad. Life was tough as a sewer rat, no doubt.

... And even tougher when an insane wizard decided he'd like to perform experiments on her kind. Such a wizard had ventured his way into Nicodemus' warrens, and in what was the Great Ratocide of 4713 AR, the wizard was brazen enough to attempt to take the sewer hold by himself.

It was Nicodemus who hid in the shadows, and her family overwhelmed the wizard. There were casualties, but the ratfolk were victorious. The wizard fell to his knees, his spellbook bouncing along the tunnel. Nicodemus grabbed and threw a tarp over the book, curiously.

The years that would follow had Nicodemus becoming obsessed with magic and necromancy, and she had learned to manipulate the energy around her to perform her own magical incantations. Hunger and thirst was no longer an issue, and she could spit acid as she wished. She was enthralled with the raw power granted by the spellbook, and hadn't been the same since.
