I certainly don't hold it against you Chyrone, but this has been the most ridiculous scenario I've ever played. I've noticed streakiness in other campaigns with the dice, and I'm not very confident in the dice bot anymore.

Happened to me twice. I've been carrying around a potion of CLW that I don't get to use because every time I'm hit in combat, which is the first attack on me, I go from full to down. Sometimes you have a crazy crappy day and the only solution is to write it off, go to bed, and have another better day after.

<shrug> we weren't going to manage it with our dice rolls whether it was a tier 1, 1.5, or 2 challenge. It would have taken you out on it's first attack against you like everyone else. Screw it. This was my character's first trip out. I'll just change a letter in the name and use it again.

I knew I'd fail this roll before I rolled it. This is seriously the weirdest dice thing I've ever seen. This is my 5th time playing this scenario if I remember correctly. I've played it at tier 2 with a 1st level character once before. It's more difficult yes, but not enough to make that much difference in the the face of universally hot DM dice and cold party dice. As far as decisions and consequences go, I think the dice have trivialized any decisions we've made. In game decisions only matter if you can act on them successfully or you choose very badly. We can't do the things we decide to do. The tier decision only matters if the party doesn't have the strength to succeed, more or less on average for some reason. That's not the case here. I don't think we would have succeeded at tier 1. Honestly I stopped caring what happens some time back because it wasn't worth the investment.

So I'm not sure what Janira's situation is, dead dead or still savable. If she's still savable Nevisial still has a potion of CLW. She could withdraw from the minotaur and give her the potion. That would mean one less person in the fight for a couple of rounds and that we wouldn't have the potion for ourselves. What do you all think?

Longer OOC coming up so spoilered.

OOC:
Sorry for this but I'm not sure how to get what I have in mind across IC. So at 10' deep and all medium sized, we should be able to aid the climb check of each individual from above with the rope, and below with support as they make the check. Knotting the rope for handholds adds +2 to climb checks I believe. That should be enough to make it very low risk. Nevisial has +7 acrobatics so she should have an easy time just making the jump last. Then she can take the rope and we start the process in reverse on the other side. Is that ligit Chyrone? Everyone okay with doing it that way?

"Bring me up first." says Nevisial as she ties the rope around her waist.

I'm not sure we have anyone who can.

While she's giving the cloak a look, she tells the others

"I have a plan that should get us across without many problems. We have rope, so everyone should be able to make a supported climb. Going largest to smallest, we will lower everyone into the pit. I'll stay last and just jump across. On the other side we'll climb out with the rope going smallest to largest. We should always have enough strength with everyone helping on the rope if we go in that order."

I have detect magic but it's an SLA at 1/day. I'd rather save the casting until it can serve multiple uses. We can take the cloak along and deal with it when a better use for the spell comes along.

Perfect Niche Product

4/5

I was agonizing over a recently dead character's reincarnation and this pdf came to my attention by way of my spouse (who was also GM for the game in question). It fit the bill perfectly, and here's why.

Fluff: Well, the fluff went out the window for my newly reincarnated character. And I'm sad about that, as it's very good fluff. I especially like the fluff for the Piper, that being the race I reincarnated my former Human Cavalier to. She's now a Cavalier/Bard.

Crunch: This is where the product goes from 5 stars to 4 for me, and possibly for a silly reason. When poring over the text, I was hoping to find age/height/weight tables like those found in the Core Rules. Having a description that reads out the race as being built similarly to an existing race, but smaller, didn't quite fit that need.

Art: I agree with the previous reviewer on the matter of 3D rendered art. The first bits of art in the book are great, but it slowly goes downhill. Now, that said, this is the sort of pdf that could do with very minimal art and still be good. Thus, it's STILL 4 stars.

Proofing: Only one typo that caught my eye. That, sadly, was on the first page. Hale instead of hail. But easily overlooked.

Overall: 4 stars. If you're looking for something off the beaten path, this is the place to look.

Nick and Richard paint the town red

5/5

Yes, it's gory. Yes, it's horrific. Yes, it's shocking. That's rather the point. If you've not played something by Nick Logue before, tread carefully. Same goes for Richard Pett. These two together? Recipe for horror beyond imagination. I loved it.

Excellent, as usual

5/5

A well written book, with superlative art and content. The cover alone is, in my humble estimation, worth the price of admission. And what's inside just seals the deal.

I highly recommend this for all GM's - from seasoned veterans to novices. I truly believe any GM can benefit greatly from this wonderful tome.

Awesome!

5/5

Having just gotten this for my Beloved Spouse (Kobold chorus: "We love you!") for her birthday, I can not say enough good things about this book. It really is the omnibus of all the collected books, and is an essential for all Traveller fans and anyone wanting a good solid Science Fiction game.

Solid

Having just recently gone questing through PFRPG compatible living construct options, I found this. And in so doing, found an incredible resource that meets my needs perfectly and surpasses many of my hopes. Well written fluff, great mechanics and solid design all around.

Another Win!

5/5

Ok, ok, I know that much of this has been retread a million zillion times. Ok, ok, I know it's a collection of related monsters. But this is Paizo's treatment. And they have never disappointed me with their 'revisited' collections, and this is no exception. Beautiful art, incredible writing and solid mechanics. Bravo!

Dwarves!!!

5/5

These aren't your progenitor's Dwarves, these are Golarion Dwarves! While fairly traditional in places the Dwarves of Golarion outlined in this fine book are a lively and well-written bunch. Several different subcultures are provided, along with an incredibly rich backstory for the world since before the Quest for Sky. The content is superlative as always. A new weapon, some feats and a lot of social and cultural information. Highly recommended!

Incredible!

5/5

While I'm not sure how I'm going to swing this into my PFRPG games, I will heartily endorse this product. Monte Cook delivers a thoughtful, well conceived set of alternative rules on a great many things. Spell levels from 1 to 20 alone would be worth the price of admission. Fighter domains easily worth the cover price. Bravo on another fine book, Monte!

Good, but not great

3/5

I will be the first to say that I am a total fangirl of this adventure path. It has such perfect flavor for one of my favorite countries, Cheliax. Where it falls short, in my estimation, is that not all parties will want to be unquestioningly fanatical devotees of good and light. This section of the AP doesn't provide very much room for the morally gray in my opinion. Nonetheless, it's well written and enjoyable and is a good lead-in to the rest of the AP. A solid three-stars.

Excellent!

4/5

This latest installment of the Council of Thieves adventure path comes packed full of awesome. While it is following in the shadow of The Sixfold Trial, it shines on its own merits easily. The Hellknight PrC is well written, the adventuring through Delvehaven is superlatively well written, and downright creepy. And, well, it's just incredibly tightly designed. Major props to Mr Kortes and all the other contributors. Thanks for the great work!

INCREDIBLE!

5/5

Well worth the wait, the Pathfinder Bestiary is an incredible tome which scratches all of my deep-seated creature based needs. The illustrations are superlative. The proofreading rocks! (What can I say, I'm a pedant) And best of all, it's 100% PFRPG compatible.

With this, most of my favorite creatures are brought into this Brave New World of gaming. From the humble, yet deadly Goblin to the championing Solar every creature contained herein is given its due.

Bravo Paizo!

Best. Tool. Ever.

Hate tracking turns? Hate missing someone's initiative? Hate it when your sticky note with hitpoints gets wet?

Then you will LOVE this product. I used this once, missing half the magnets, and have finally bought one. Sliced bread has nothing on this widget.

Bravo Paizo!

The heroes of Bastards of Erebus take the stage in The Sixfold Trial. This installment of the Council of Thieves AP really surpasses almost every other adventure or module I've ever experienced. To date, the only thing that approaches is my brief stint in Castle Amber.

This adventure has everything, and while it might be light on combat it is heavy on content. Great characters by the diabolical Richard Pett, incredible worldbuilding, impressive artwork by some of the best and brightest Paizo can retain and stunning playwright work by the infernal Nick Logue.

Fluff and Stuff

5/5

I am totally behind Paizo's effort to apply what is, essentially, a fresh coat of paint to some classic monsters.

While there are no new RULES per se in this and other Chronicles 'monster' books, the content is superb and is greatly appreciated.

The joys of reading about noble Golds, viscious and sadistic Blacks and gregarious Coppers has put many smiles on both my face and that of my wife.

I'm champing at the bit to find out how much more incredible my encounters with dragonkind will be with this book in hand, and am already adapting a bit of its contents to my own characters of draconic descent.

Three cheers for Paizo for such wonderful fluff!

Wonderful Content

5/5

I am incredibly impressed with the handling of this book's content. Paizo has truly outdone themselves! I can recall my first (last and ONLY...thank the Gods) encounter with a Roper. It was nothing like what it could have been had we had this book at the time! Each monster has received enough background to render them unique and flesh them out beyond the stat block. Instead of a "You see a *blah*, roll initiative" I now look forward to having my group encounter a cabal of Nick Logue's Ropers, thus sealing their fates.

Bravo Paizo! More please?
