Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

"I believe that it would be foolish to think we can take on the Lord of Dust as he is right now. To find and get to this angelic prisoner I think we must properly distract his attention away from his own domain. We should look at taking out key allies that he has, weaken his position, and then when he is truly alone, we strike. I think some blood calls out to be shed.

ulgulanoth:
The belt is obviously magical? I will put it on.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

ulgulanoth:
Did I find any neat treasures and trinkets before I teleported back to my home? Obviously I still carry the mace. Is it Huge sized?

Nephistal appears in the middle of the ruins. "Well that was a useless trip for the original purpose of gathering information but I did manage to find something that the Lord of Dust was searching for." He holds out a golden mace for the others to see. "I am not sure why it is so important but when he sends one such as the great worm Neidieleilen to fetch it there must be some value to it."

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Telepathy to Havikoryx:
"A useful offer and a good skill to have but the trip is not so far and the best part is the display of new power and wealth through the Carnival."

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

After the sniveling dretches have collected the most valuable of treasures and slaves Nephistal will guide them out of the fortress.
I assume that there are carts or wagons or something of the like that can be used to transport the goods and slaves.
He looks over the items gathered, looking for anything of powerful magic or extreme value and takes them from the dretches and gathered slaves.
"Head for my fortress on the other side of the Carnival. I will send one to guide you through to there. If any question you tell them you are the property of Nephistal and any problems they give you will be returned ten fold upon them. NOW MOVE MAGGOTS!!"

Telepathy to Havikoryx and Sene'Sis:
"Well it appears that this is a bit of a 'dead' end. Perhaps we should return to Hark'oka and see how the others have fared. I will join you there shortly."

ulgulanoth:
Unless there is opposition to the message above Nephistal teleports home and sends a few of his most trusted slaves/lesser demons to meet and guide the treasure train. He then joins the others at Hark'oka.
What sort of items did he grab? It is all about greed and power you know.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Knowledge(Planes) to know what or who that worm was: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (14) + 23 = 37
"Well that is one way to silence someone."

Nephistal calls out to the remaining dretches. "It appears that your former master has met an unfortunate end which means that you are without a master. You will now become mine, gather up all the wealth, slaves, and treasures that you can and prepare to go to your new home, unless any of you here wish to oppose my decision." He glares around at all the cowering dretches, looking for any sign of disagreement or insubordination.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (7) + 25 = 32

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Nephistal looks around at the carnage surrounding him. He points to one of the remaining Dretches. "Come over here now worm, where is your master or is some of this mess what is left of him?"
How many dretches are still alive?

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Telepathy to Worm:
"I will figure it out in due time puppet. Who is it that sent you to collect it and why do they need it so badly?"

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Sene'Sis:
The reach evolution is given for free on the bite for the serpentine form but you can't take it again to make the reach another 5ft.(10 total). The reach with your regular attacks would be 10' and the bite would be 15'. The evolution point you spent on it should be spent on something else.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Nephistal calls out to the worm as he strikes it, blood pouring out of the fresh wounds. "Are you ready to crawl back to the depths where you came from yet? Maybe a little more fight left in you? How badly do you really want it?"

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

There should be no AoO. I only took a 5ft step and then used Lunge to attack from 20ft away.
Did all the attacks hit?

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Nephistal sees the hit that Sene'Sis takes and cracks a slight grin. "Well no-one said this was going to be easy".
He shifts around the pillar and reaches out further than you might expect at the worm.
5ft to O-Q, 19-21.
Swift action: Activate Domain Power of Weapon Master gaining use of the Lunge feat. (+5ft reach, -2 AC)
Full attack: (Less 1 attack as he is holding the golden mace.)
1st Claw Power Attack: 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (13) + 36 = 49, Damage: 1d8 + 36 ⇒ (7) + 36 = 43
2nd Claw Power Attack: 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (17) + 36 = 53, Damage: 1d8 + 36 ⇒ (5) + 36 = 41
3rd Claw Power Attack: 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (7) + 36 = 43, Damage: 1d8 + 36 ⇒ (7) + 36 = 43
4th Claw Power Attack: 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (11) + 36 = 47, Damage: 1d8 + 36 ⇒ (1) + 36 = 37
5th Claw Power Attack: 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (13) + 36 = 49, Damage: 1d8 + 36 ⇒ (2) + 36 = 38

Vitals:

CMD: 55 (57 Grapple)

I will update the map whenever I can. Do you have access to Google docs ulgulanoth?

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Map Updated

Sene'Sis:
Being large sized with Increased Reach Bite would give you 15' reach not 20'. unless I am missing something.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Lets play with Google Docs. Easy enough. Not sure where the door is so I didn't mark it.
Sene'Sis: Tell mw which squares you are moving to or if everyone has access to google docs I could make it editable.

Worm Fight Map

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

ulgulanoth, any chance you can do an real map, that hurts my eyes just looking at it.

Telepathy to Worm:
"I believe it is finders keepers, and look what I just found. What would you even do with a little stick anyway?"

Telepathy to Sene'Sis and Havikoryx:
"The worm is after this golden mace, I am not sure what makes it so significant but if it is that important and powerful then I am thinking that hanging onto it might give us a bit power in our fight. Prepare yourself, this might get ugly in a hurry."

ulgulanoth:
Perception on Mace: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (9) + 25 = 34
Spellcraft on Mace: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (20) + 20 = 40
How do you want to run this? Map? Initiative?

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Nephistal slashes out with one of his claws, catching the unfortunate dretch. Seeing the mace fall to the ground he reaches out and picks it up.
Swift Action Divine Power
Attack Action: Claw Power Attack: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (16) + 37 = 53, Damage: 1d8 + 34 ⇒ (7) + 34 = 41
Move Action: Pick up the golden mace.
15' Reach is wonderful!

ulgulanoth:
How far is the dretch carrying the golden mace? How far from the worm? Would I be able to reach the mace fairly easily? My assumption is that there is a dimensional lock in the area (I would think this might be fairly standard for powerful homes) so teleporting to the dretch wouldn't work.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Nephistal looks around at the scene, impressed with all the blood, gore and demon bits all over the place.
What is the creature doing, has it noticed us enter the room?
Perception: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (20) + 25 = 45 <-of course I blow a nat 20 on a perception check. *sigh*

"Well I guess he isn't going to be as much of a useful source of information as I had hoped. I guess Dusty is getting rid of anyone or anything that might hold information about him."

If the creature makes any sort of aggressive move I will swift action activate Divine Power.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

ulgulanoth:
I have some concerns about the way the game is going at this point. The scenario is very cool and the group of characters that have gathered is interesting and diverse. I am finding the lack of pushing forward from the DM a little tiresome. It feels right now like it is almost a self-directed game with a little judging and occasional descriptions. I guess I was hoping for a little bit more direction from you in the game. I am just not sure how many times I have to say that I am continuing on down this hallway before you actually move the game forward. I am not looking to insult you in any way I am just a little frustrated with the lack of forward momentum in this game.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Nephistal shakes his head as if to clear it and then uses his claws to scratch the painting before continuing on. Being a little bit more wary of what other things that this fortress might hold.

ulgulanoth:
Nephistal will head towards one of the raised horizons. Distance?

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

ulgulanoth:
Nephistal screams out in frustration at falling victim to an obvious trap.
Spellcraft to determine what kind of magical trap: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28
He then picks a direction and starts running, keeping his eyes open for anything more unusual than this place already is.
Perception: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (4) + 25 = 29

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

ulgulanoth:
If that is an enchantment effect add +6 to will save and SR31.

Nephistal immediately tries to teleport back to the fortress. My assumption is that doesn't work.
"What madness is this? Where the hell am I?" Looking around for any landmark or difference in the landscape.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Nephistal strides with purpose down the hall, looking for any obvious pitfalls but admiring the art as they pass it. "It looks as though he has a fine eye for art. He probably has those paintings re-stained with fresh blood every week, it really brings it to life."

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Sene'Sis:
I know that it is awesome and all but I want to make sure that you are not misreading or abusing the burrow evolution you have taken.
Burrow (Ex)
An eidolon grows thick and gnarled claws, allowing it to move through the earth. The eidolon gains a burrow speed equal to 1/2 its base speed. It can use this speed to move through dirt, clay, sand, and earth. It does not leave a hole behind, nor is its passage marked on the surface.

You can not use it to burrow through stone, rocky ground or worked floors/walls.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Nephistal teleports to the main entrance, avoiding the plates that Sene'Sis has pointed out. "Lets get this started then, ready for some fun?"
Careful not to step on any of the plates Nephistal goes through the entrance into the fortress.
Perception: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (2) + 25 = 27
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Nephistal teleports one last time and then stops most of the way up a steep slope. Once the others appear he speaks to them telepathically. "Just over the rise is an old fortress that Kirshmantix uses as his dwelling. He will undoubtedly have a dimensional lock over most of his fortress except for his escape routes so we must go in the hard way and move quickly. I know I can handle myself and I assume that you have some understanding on how to cause some damage Sene'sis but you might want to stay out of the way Havikoryx until we get well inside and your skills in persuasion might be utilized. Now does anyone have a stealthy way to take a look at what waits for us before we charge over the ridge?"

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

"I am not sure that Kirshmantix will be unlikely to be happy about seeing me regardless Havikoryx. Your method may work on some but I doubt that he will be willing to help without a large amount of bribery and I don't know about you but I am running a bit light at this moment in the monetary situation. He knows violence and understands it, so do I, something we have in common."
Nephistal begins a series of short 'hops' so that the other two can follow where he is going.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

"I want to go have a chat with the Nalfeshnee about this master of theirs that desires the Lord of Dust removed. Find out who or what got us into this mess in the first place. I know one who may have this information, I have dealt with him in the pits before and know that he is well connected. There is a minor issue though because there may be some bad blood between us after a certain issue in the pits that ended up costing him 4 of his very best fighters including the champion at the time. Kirshmantix will not be happy to see me so getting in to see him may involve some display of force against some of his 'protection'. I will be going regardless but having some with me will only aid in the intimidation of him and his posse."

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Nephistal appears in the middle of the crumbling ruins, their very existence a reminder of the treachery of the lesser beings. Soon after he arrives, Dimmuborgir, Sicsivicus and Sene'Sis appear. Nephistal postures up to appear even larger than his already towering stature. "Welcome brothers, hopefully we will enjoy a little bit more privacy here, away from the minions at the carnival. It appears that intentions are known to the Lord of Dust so the question is do we grovel at his feet and beg forgiveness or we remove him from the position that we all covet?"

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

"I assume you are all familiar with the ruins at Hark'oka. Let us meet there where we may gather and discuss our current predicament."

Unless anyone has any objections, I will teleport there (a made up location just not here) and await the others.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

"It appears that we have been outed to the Dusty Lord, I suggest we get out and in a hurry."

Knowledge(Planes) to know where his lair would have been. 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (1) + 23 = 24 <-Looks like I am stumped

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (1) + 25 = 26
Knowledge(Planes) to know who this demon is: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (12) + 23 = 35

"A Nalfeshnee with delusions of grandeur, what a surprise." Nepshistal says, his voice thick with sarcasm.
"What is unusual is that he has the guts to even think about standing against the Lord of Dust."
Nephistal looks around at the others gathered. "You wish me to work with you and these others to topple the Lord of Dust? I don't really play well with others, but if the offer is good enough I may be able to tolerate you all for a short while."

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Have you gone into hiding Ulgulanoth?

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

How many Babaus and Nalfeshnees are there?

Telepathy to others: "I have an itch that needs some scratching. Does anyone care to join? Now where did those cowardly snakes run off to?

Nephistal stretches and flexes, flashing razor-sharp claws at the approaching babaus while advancing 20ft towards them.

Ulgulanoth:
Ready action to use activate War Domain power of Combat Reflexes Feat if Babaus close or charge.
Note: I would have had Magic Vestment cast upon my armor and shield before coming to the square. Just thought I would make sure you knew since I never specified before and it does last for 15 hours.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Perception: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (8) + 25 = 33

For mass perception checks I might suggest that you roll for everyone and then tell us what we see or don't see. Just to speed things up.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

"I share the same belief with most of Obuctus, that the Lord of Dust has overstayed his welcome." Nephistal gazes around at the others gathered here. "It would seem that whatever it was that called us here has chosen those with 'special' gifts. Should you assist me I am more than willing to reward each of you favorable positions when I take over the control of Obuctus."

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Ooze:
Telepathy "Who or what are you to make these claims and to demand a test of worth? Surely everyone here would like the Lord of Dust to be gone but there are reasons that he has ruled Oboctus for ten millennia. Few have been able to defeat him and those that do see him rise up again and again to reclaim his place. Why are these others here, surely you have not tried to trick each of us into thinking Oboctus can be ours? On second thought, that is almost guaranteed, what solution can't be overcome by throwing greater numbers at it."

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Not very familiar with telepathy, am I able to determine who or what is speaking to me?

What kind of creatures are around me, how many, how close? How far are the others from me? Obstacles in my way?

Just in case: Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Just a little confused Ulgulanoth. So this ooze is communicating with each of us, but how are we to understand the meaning of the message. My assumption is that having these other demons in the Carnival of Pigs is not that unusual so they wouldn't necessarily stand out to me. I am not sure if you are meaning us to have a royal rumble right off the start or we are supposed to figure something else out. I am all for smashing stuff but I fail to see how that gets me closer to taking out the Lord of Dust and if anything might draw some of his unwanted attention my way.

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Ulgulanoth:
With a thought, Nesphistal appears within the familiar streets of the Carnival near the fighting pits. "Controls the Nalfashnee? I figured the only thing that controlled them was their greed."

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Ulgulanoth:
Nephistal growls at being disturbed by such a small and worthless creature. "You speak treason little worm, not that I would disagree with your message though. Who are the masters that you speak of, surely the Nalfashnee have not banded together, they can barely stand each other and can't see past their own greed. Is there one more powerful that deems himself worthy to judge the Lord of Dust as unfit, and if such a claim is made, why has he not pursued the throne himself?"
Inner Dialogue. -> Perhaps this is some trap set Jursept and his cronies who would see me made a fool and would use the power of the Lord of Dust to finally get me out of the pits. No, that can't be it, he is simply not that smart. Is this offer for real? I must take advantage of the opportunity.
"Tell your masters that I will visit the Carnival this day. This better not be a waste of my time or I will make sure that you spend the rest of eternity buried to your neck in the waste of the humans."

Outsider (Demon) Outsider 15, Barbarian 2 (Brutal Pugilist), Fighter 3 (Savage Warrior)

Dimmuborgir, Best! Entrance! Ever!

It appears that I will have to up my chaos and evil a bit to keep up.

"Vasha, why do you treat your currency so well? Have you have gone soft and weak? You wouldn't be treating them as citizens would you? Well I thank you for this insight and I will enjoy pulling them apart limb by limb as you watch.

Ulgulanoth:

Created by the evil magics of a Nalfashnee named Talshfal, Nephistal was made for fighting in the pits at the Carnival of Pigs. Never having been defeated in the 1200 years of fighting Nephistal eventually became bored of being a gladiator himself but Talshfal refused to release him. Nephistal found the only way to free himself was to rid Oboctus of Talshfal which he did during a following a pit fight, tricking him into coming into the pit and then dismantling him in a fantastic display of violence and bloodshed. Using the rules of possession, Nephistal took over Talshfal's gladiatorial business and was quite successful for a century or so before going though an extended patch of bad luck and misfortune. Nephistal now has only a handful of decent fighting slaves at his small complex outside of the Carnival, constantly fighting against some of the other pit masters that want to force him out of the arena business altogether.
The complex itself is built into rock, what would have originally been some caves but over the centuries has been worked out by countless slaves.

Vasha Clease wrote:
Nephistal, I'm guessing you have the Epic Level Handbook too. That was the only book I've found that says that followers are supposed to be only commoners, experts, and warriors. And I had made the same assumption for 3.5 but according to the Pathfinder rules its says cohorts can be any race and class and followers are similiar to cohorts, just lower levels. This is my wish list, and I'm waiting for Ulgulanoth's decisions on cohorts. But my thought process, I picked the lower level followers from the APG Npcs for an example cult. And I wanted the young babau repurposed (and reskinned) to resemble my eidolons (which are small) as my "heralds". But I am open to suggestions, especially depending on what Ulgulanoth decides on cohorts.

I am not against using monsters as cohorts or followers, I just want to make sure that they are properly regulated without the leadership feat being abused as some of this falls into a grey area.

According to the SRD the Babau is ECL (Effective Character Level) 11, which is 5 levels above the highest follower allowed (assuming non NPC levels are being used). Even applying a young template (which Ulgulanoth has already banned) would make it ECL 10. The Barghest might be a level below the Babau at ECL 10 (6 HD + a boatload of specials).
The same applies to the Nereids as cohorts. If we assume that the Nereid is equivalent to an Erinyes (even though it is actually +2CR to the Devil) the ECL is 16 before applying the Demon-possessed template (which for the Balor adds +7 ECL and the Succubus adds +4). The Cauchemar I would estimate to be at least ECL 18-19 (especially with the plane shifting), the Night Hag might fall in the reasonable 16-17 range.
I know the final judgement rests with Ulgulanoth so I will of course defer to whatever conclusion he comes to.
