About Nemana SurantiNemana Suranti
The now-orphaned child grew up in the care of the surviving members of the caravan, but parted ways with them at the age of 17, citing that she didn't like being reminded of her mother. She was in Brevoy at that time, and a nobleman's servant remembered the Suranti family scarf from when he was a young man. He approached Nemana, asking who she was. The man's inquiry was turned upon itself and Nemana discovered that a woman with the same scarf, her mother, had made a bit of an impression on the young men of a noble's estate. Putting two and two togehter and figuring out who the noble in question was and what his relation to Nemana was didn't exactly take much effort. She attempted to confront him, asking him to claim her, but she was shot down harshly. The stuck up noble didn't want anything to do with his bastard daughter, and the public denunceation made it hard for Nemana to remain in the city, the gossip between nobles' servants spreading the news faster than messengers ever could. It was a stroke of luck that she met Lyall when she did. Lyall was a servant of Erastil, one who only entered the city to sell furs and purchase what supplies he couldn't make himself. He heard a group of servants harassing Nemana and took it upon himself to intervene, calmly informing the harsh men that their behavior was unacceptable and that they truly did not wish to take things further. Nemana was terrified at the man, and he was on her side. She didn't want to think about how scared those men were, but the second they exited the inn it was like a switch had been flipped. Where before there had stood a terrifying wild man, now there was a kindly older gentleman making sure that the young Varisian woman was alright and wondering why she was here if people were so mean to her. Nemana didn't know why she trusted this man so much, but she asked him to take her and teach her how to hunt. The middle-aged hunter regarded her; she had potential, but little in the way of actual training. He could fix that. He helped her gather the supplies she'd need for living in the wilderness, and he taught her what she needed to know. The pair disappeared into the Stolen Lands, where Nemana learned what Lyall's attachment to the place was. It was a small village of all kinds of humanoids, many of whom wouldn't have been able to fend for themselves this far from civilization. The town had no name, but it was all centered around a shrine to Erastil. The young woman learned the way of the bow and learned to hunt, and earned the favor of Erastil over the next few years, and her faith was tested when a tribe of goblins attacked her home once again. This time, though, Nemana wasn't a helpless child, and between her and Lyall, they put the infestation down mercilessly. Shortly after that, an awakened wolf wandered into the village, separated from his druid companion and mortally wounded. The two paladins attempted to tend to the animal when it became obvious that it was more than it appeared, aware of the circles of druids that roamed the Stolen Lands, but they failed. The wolf's spirit left its body as the dark druid whose wolf this had been found his way into their settlement. Seeing Nemana crouched over his deceased companion, he reacted instinctively and levelled a curse on her, binding the wolf's spirit to her own. The intent had been to kill her with the aid of the lupine ghost, and move on to kill the small Erastilian community in retribution, but the wolf's spirit remembered the woman who'd shown it kindness and refused to attack her. Bereft of his wolf for good this time, the evil druid attacked in earnest, and Nemana was forced to kill him and finalize the curse, tying the wolf's spirit to her own. Months passed, and Nemana learned to hunt and fight with Wolf at her side; the creature had known no name save Wolf, for his former master had only awakened animals so that he could better command them. The paladin and her eidolon learned on one of their trips to Brevoy of the charters for the exploration of the Stolen Lands, and resolved to investigate. After telling Lyall where they were going, she set out with Wolf at her side, determined to ensure the continued wellbeing of the little wild community that was her home by ensuring that none who would wish them harm came to power over the area.
