Nayala hops out of the boat and begins moving towards the hidden cave opening areas.

"So, we head up there and look around, I guess? I don't see any other means of access, do you>"

"Yeah, I can sail. Kinda sort almost maybe navigate, too. As for climbing and stuff, I'm okay there too. Falls and jumping are really easy for me to handle, and I can see in the dark. If we think we're gonna be a while down there, maybe some food would be a good idea though. Other than that, I think we're ready, right everyone?"

"Well, I'm okay with riding high up if the waters not so choppy. Dunno how much I like the idea of swimming in my new chain shirt, though, might weigh me down a little. Do we need anything else? Light sources, weapons or ammunition, anything like that?"

Just gonna switch out my lamellar armor for a chain shirt, nothing major.

Then we go raid some pirates! Or smugglers, or whatever is down under Parrot Island.

"I mean, he's probably just drinking up the coin he just 'earned'. I don't rally wanna hang around a seedy tavern looking like this, unless you're looking for some more coin by rolling a drunk or two."

Nayala remains across the street and surreptitiously in the shadows, wondering is she could have filched the coins back as soon as they were handed over.

"Lets give him a minute, then meet the lads out by the manor."

"Yeah, Lila, having backup would be great. I'll try and keep Mr. Scumbag in sight, you keep me in sight. Sound good?"

Nayala let's him get a bit ahead, then tails at a discrete distance.

"Good idea, I can tail him pretty easy, I'd wager."

"Parrot Island is a regular old smugglers hideaway. It's been in use for years, if not decades. Damned if I know how to get there, though, we might as well pay the man and be done with it."

Nayala tosses him the requested additional coin, if noone else ponies up first.

Nayala looks at the team, well aware that haggling over this kind of situation is perfectly reasonable, but still frustrated that they need to do so after getting paid so well. She grits her teeth and tries not to screw up further negotiations.

"Double V, eh? Seems like you might have a really good idea of the person we're looking to meet, especially if you have nicknames for each other. So, my new found friend, what was your nickname?"

Nayala looks the man up and down, repressing her instant revulsion and keeping a professional smile on her face. Her hand does not stray far from her newly acquired sap, though.

"Jealous heir kills his family to squander the inheritance? Sounds plausible to me, dunno how well it tracks with the rest of this Vanthus' behavior. I know it's kinda dumb to tip our hand, but maybe this Scarlet Brotherhood place might help?"

"Well, we'll fit right in asking around then. Once we find something out, should we double check with you or just keep looking til we can find the lost lamb and bring him back? Is he a fighter, skilled or otherwise, or does he know any magic that might surprise us?"

Nayala gathers up her stuff and takes a long look at the indicated portrait.

"We're kinda flush with coin, so why don't we go hit up some gambling and drinking parlors, ask around and see what we can find?"

"Is Vanthus a man about town? Do you know of any people or groups he frequents? Dining clubs, drinking establishments, bath houses? The staff in those places see and hear a lot more than the guests like to believe, and with some kind words and coin to grease the wheels, we might be able to learn what he's been up to."

"Say, Lady V...you seem to be in need of trustworthy, competent retainers. You also seem to have both an empty manor house and a moored vessel in town. Would you like to make our business arrangement a bit more...continuous? We could provide our assorted skills and of course protection for your up and coming household, while you would be assured of our services much in the way your team of Kovas. Plus, we can save a bunch of coin on inn rooms."

Nayala gives a wide grin as she receives her coin and makes the pitch to Lavinia.

"Box within a box? Quite interesting. Let me take another look."

Nayala examines the iron coffer closely.

"Yeah, you can't be too careful, I guess. I'm very keen to see what's inside these chests though. "

"There might be some room-destroying or 'kill us all type dangers on those cheats. Let me take a look at least before we open them, okay?"

Nayala cautiously examines the chests and floors for traps.

"I mean, this place is full of secrets and hidden features, why wouldn't they be trapped? I imagine they weren't planning on using this a a daily withdrawal kind of place, right?"

"Okay, so six, one, four, two? Stand back, I'm gonna do the thing."

Nayala confidently turns the stone pillar/dial in the aforementioned combination.

"Yeah, sounds good, guys. Just gotta figure out how many eyes this basilisk thing has. Other than that, seems like a straight forward combination lock."

"Now, this is something I would expect to see in a hidden vault. I wonder if this is the room that parchment was talking about. Can I see that note again? Just in case."

Nayala cautiously steps in and looks over the pillar and floor, trying to determine if something harmful will occur.

Nayala heads to the new opening, cautiously examining it for traps or hidden features.

"I mean, if the snake can go first, great. But I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it if it cant."

"Oh, uh, yeah, I guess I am feeling better. That metal snake had longer teeth than I thought. Thanks, Lila, healing magic is quite nice to have at hand in a group."

Nayala looks around for more hidden threats, or doors, chests, locks, or the like.

"So, what's next?"

@Apemantus, constructs no longer have blanket immunity from crits. Might be worthwhile to roll that confirm roll.

Dodging back from the metal serpents strike, Nayala unleashes her own slash, bringing her curved blade around in an attempt to decapitate it.

Feeling the sting of the metal snakes fangs, Nayala curses and hisses in pain.

"Gah! Metal snakes? Whats next from these rich families?"

She slashes out with a kukri, looking for someone to flank with her.

Nayala moves into the room and begins to look for hidden plates, catches, or the like.

"This whole thing is your family vault? Wow. I mean, its kinda empty, but there's a lot of room in here, you could have a whole residence inside."

Nayala is eager to get in and start searching, but defers to Lavinia for the time being.

"Traps and locks? Thats my specialty! Let's go find some treasure!"

Nayala leads the party in, cautious and looking for pressure plates, switches, or similar triggers.

"I can't wait to see what's inside. Very exciting!"

"On our best behavior, your Ladyship, I promise!"

Nayala throws Lavinia a wink and heads on in with the rest of the crew.

Nayala steps onto the boat as well, casually checking her blades and crossbow are at hand. The weapons stay sheathed and slung but her fingers brush the grips and straps almost subconsciously.

"Lets go figure out what this key unlocks, shall we?"

"Nope. This side of town is too rich for the likes of me."

Nayala hops off the running boards and glides to the pavement.

"So, we gonna get jumped as soon as we step foot inside, or do we expect a more insidious greeting?"

"Best we can figure, the ring we grabbed last night is a key, and the puzzle note is a clue to some kind of riddle lock or combination or something. And inside the vault, riches and information, enough to make our Lady patron back in the good grace of polite society. "

"Gotta be some noble name or something. Only those families with money got names that long. So, where's this vault, boss?"

"Well, Kova the carriage driver, what sort of treasures should we expect to find in the vault? Hordes of coin? Gems and art? Magical artifacts and spells?"

"Sounds good to me. Our boss is inside with the others. We've got a signet ring key and some cryptic code poem, so I bet there's a code lock or combination or something to get through. I'm Nayala, by the way."

Nayala waves at the newcomers and gestures towards the carriage doors.

Nayala climbs onto the running board of the coach, crossbow dangling from a scrap across her shoulder.

"I'll ride out here, if it's okay by you. I love the feel of wind in my hair, and this way I can keep an eye out for any dangers coming our way."

"OH, great! If you know them its even easier than us hunting them down and signing them up. Let's go get paid, eh?"

Nagaland follows the half line alongside Lila.

"We didn't have any losses on our end. I didn't think we even took a scratch on the boat, to be honest. Maybe he decided to go elsewhere for employment? Or he got hammered and forgot what we were doing? No matter, I bet we can replace him easily enough."

"Excellent, excellent. Did you get a chance to look at this parchment? As my best guess, it's a coded cypher for a lock of some sort. Directions and markings suggest a turn dial, and that means a lock or gate or something. Perhaps something that would require further assistance from a skilled and capable team of adventurers?"

"I mean, people might have seen some street walkers get invited on board, then nothing. We went over the side like phantoms and I'm very confident noone was anywhere close enough to hear us."

Nayala settles down at the table and takes some breakfast foods, smiling as she eats.

"You're right, very good with honey."

She leans back and slides the ring and parchment across the table.

"We got your signet, plus this riddle parchment thing. Oh yeah, and those pirates had all kinds of exotic animals in their hold. One of them got loose and caused all kinds of damage, we made it out in the chaos."

"This place is super big and super empty for just one lady and her twin-servant halfling people. I wonder if shes got plans to pad out the family line. That's what nobles do, right? Marry around and have kids and keep the name producing?"
