    ==BACKGROUND: Slave and Master==:
    Myka's parents sold her to Declan Grahame when she was ten years old. As a man, Grahame was petty and bitter, a siege engineer and minor officer in the Chelaxian army with no hope of advancement, stuck at a backwater outpost in the Archduchy of Sirmium. As a master, he was utterly monstrous. Slaves in his possession frequently died within months of acquisition, beaten to death during his fits of drug-fueled rage or mangled during tests of new and experimental machinery.

    For some reason Myka never understood, Grahame marked her early on as one of his favorites--literally marking her, branding her left palm with the symbol of Asmodeus. On good days, she was allowed to read from her master's library of engineering texts and travel memoirs or visit the workshop and watch his subordinates crafting weapons and machinery, and Grahame trained her in logic and philosophy so he could engage in debate with her. On bad days, she was treated little better than an animal, subjected to every imaginable pain and humiliation to indulge Grahame's depraved whims.

    ==BACKGROUND: Discoveries==:
    The year she turned sixteen, two things happened that changed Myka's life. The first came when she began reading a new book in her master's library: a journal detailing a handful of years in the life of a wizard named Khonnir Baine, from Numeria. His descriptions of strange creatures, wondrous artifacts, and the mysterious Technic League and the barbaric Black Sovereign captured her imagination--but, more than that, they awakened something inside of her.

    She began to experience visions that seemed to be vivid snatches of Baine's own memories, drawn somehow from the pages of his journal. She experienced his excitement at every new discovery, and even realized she could read the snippets of the strange and alien language he occasionally made notes in. Whenever she carried the journal with her, she sensed new things about people and things, gained flashes of insight and understanding that she couldn't possibly know. She hid these new powers from Grahame, and reveled in the secret world she found unfolding around her.

    The second life-changing discovery occurred shortly after the manifestation of Myka's new powers. She noticed, with her new senses, that Grahame became subtly agitated when anyone passed by the fireplace in his bedchamber. When she finally got the chance to investigate further, she discovered a hidden compartment in the fireplace, filled with letters and ledgers detailing bribes given to and recieved by Grahame over the course of his career. Armed with this knowledge, she began to formulate a plan to secure her freedom.

    ==BACKGROUND: Freedom==:
    Myka spent every minute of her precious spare time preparing for her chance at freedom. She stole weapons and practiced with them, learned everything she could about her master's political enemies, and saved up money a stolen copper or three at a time. After nearly two more years of plotting, investigation, and saving money, Myka's plan was ready.

    She accosted Grahame at crossbow-point in his study and told him her terms: he would sign the documents granting her freedom, or she would reveal to his most bitter rivals where she had hidden the proof of his indiscretions. If any harm should befall her, the contingency spell she had paid for would send the message automatically. She would have her freedom, or he would be ruined. Grahame fumed, but he signed the papers, and Myka fled the outpost the same night. With no friends to speak of and no family she cared about, Myka set her sights on the place that had filled her dreams for nearly two years: the settlement of Torch, home of Khonnir Baine.

    ==DESCRIPTION==:
    Myka is a young woman, barely eighteen, small and slender, and her short hair, narrow face, and large eyes give her a definite pixie-like appearance. She wears a leather glove on her left hand, and grimaces with discomfort every time she uses it. She smiles easily, but there is a wariness in her gaze that never truly fades, and with a rapier on her hip and a crossbow slung over her shoulder she certainly looks ready to give back just as much trouble as she gets.
