My thoughts on things like this... if you want them to have it, make it so! Find where there's a magic longsword laying around and make it a magic heavy mace. Find where there's an awesome magic greataxe on a weapon rack in the bad guy lair and turn it into an awesome magic maul with the same bonus equivalents. It's easy enough to switch something out.

If y'all don't mind me putting my name down for it, I'd like to throw in, though I won't be needing it for months yet as my group is in the thick of the Three Faces of Evil at the moment.

To the "Family Friendly" comment: I don't see how not. What's so bad, audience wise, about a guy put under a spell to fall in love with a pig?

To Hagen: The Elixir of Love specifically states the effect applies to the "first creature" the drinker sees. Not the first Humanoid, but the first creature. Believe me, I went and double-checked the rules when they told me what they intended.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My group's Half-Giant Psychic Warrior (named Brom) has a built-in rivalry going with Kullen (the albino Half-Orc barbarian). This, of course, precludes any talking resolution during the Whispering Cairn module. Brom and the others decided to bring Skutch's arm with them back to town in a bag labeled "For Kullen, Love Brom" and left it on his usual table at the Feral Dog. The already angry barbarian immediately hunts the party down and picks a fight. The PCs nearly get their butts beat, but they end up winning. In the process, Brom wrestles Kullen to the ground and intentionally deals non-lethal damage, to subdue him without killing him. They truss him up and carry him back to the inn, where Brom puts him in a "slutty dress", complete with garters, and does him up with really bad makeup while the rest of the party goes shopping. The others come back, potion in hand, and they drag the blindfolded and manacled Kullen out to a livestock pen, complete with pig. They drop him in the mud, force the Elixer of Love the party'd bought down his throat, face him towards the pig, take the blindfold off, and run. First stop: The Feral Dog... "Hey! Guys! You've gotta come see this!!"

Later on Brom's player asked me what gender the pig was, so I rolled for it. ... Pig was male.

Was a player in a now completed Shackled City campaign set in Eberron. The group didn't have a name at the time and my pompous House Lyrandar half-elf bard (who promptly got himself eaten), came up with one on the spot that fit -his- abilities and ties.

The Windwalkers

Thank you indeed. I was just browsing through under the same circumstances as Charles here. New campaign starting out, including a psychic warrior.

I've run week 1 already (they're about 3/4 through the Cairn itself) and my players had a very difficult time with the beetles as the group's future primary arcane caster is going for Mystic Theurge and currently has no blasty spells. One little hint I found as a way to keep them from dying against the Mad Slasher and the Acid Beetles is to have the beetles spend a turn or two devouring the dead Mad Slasher (they're vermin, they just want to eat). Most of my group engaged the slasher first, as it has a much higher movement and got to them quicker, and I had the beetles munch on dead slasher for two rounds instead of the PCs. The beetles -still- nearly killed their most sturdy member (took him to -8) before the group finally managed the old oil and tindertwig trick.
