I am also looking for these maps. It is a real shame that he deactivated his account.

3 YEARS LATER...

Heya! Been thinking of running Iron Gods in 5e recently (heavily rewritten to fit my campaign world), and came across this thread! Awesome conversion man, love your blog too!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Kalshane: Love how you converted the Campaign Traits and baddies for the later modules, you really captured their 'feel' without over doing it!

Steve: I'd love to see what you did with CotCT, did you post any conversion notes anywhere?

William: I am also wondering if you're still offering your conversions. I PMed you my email in case you are.

Here's some things i have for the first encounters, adding to Kryx's stuff.

Goblin
Same as Goblin (MMp. 166) and add the following action:

Thrown Refuse. Ranged Weapon Attack: +1 to hit, range 30 ft., one target. Hit: 1 (1d4-1) bludgeoning damage. If target is a creature it must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned until the end of its next turn.

Goblin Pyro
Same as Goblin (MM p.166) with following changes:

AC 13 (leather armor)

Actions
Multiattack. The goblin makes one Dogslicer attack and one Torch attack.
Dogslicer (Scimitar). Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6+2) slashing damage.
Torch. Melee Weapon Attack: +1 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 (1d4-1) bludgeoning damage plus 1 fire damage.
Shortbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, range 80/320 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6+2) piercing damage.

GOBLIN ANTICS

Hint: A dog starts barking at the hiding goblins before the encounter begins (Perception check to notice).

d10
1. Goblin with barrel over it running around blindly.

2. Goblin clumsily swinging around an oversized improvised torch, a flaming broom that's falling apart, leaving burning pieces of straw everywhere.

3. Goblin chasing cat, 2 rounds later is seen running off with it, then 2 more rounds later sets if aflame.

4. Goblin fleeing/hiding from a dog.

5. Goblin leaps off a roof in an attempt to land on a victim but misses and breaks his neck.

6. Goblin running from bakery with a (stolen) apple pie, or pillaging the banquet table.

7. Goblin throws a lit torch at a fleeing mother only to have it land on another goblin and light his armor on fire.

8. Hysterical goblin running around while on fire looking for water, before falling dead in the middle of the square.

9. Goblin running off with a crying baby, the mother is across the square screaming "My baby, please, someone save my baby!"

10. Goblin swings across square screaming like a high-pitched Tarzan. Probably runs into something/someone and/or lands horribly.

A bit late, but here's my list that i made some time ago:

The general understanding is that the PDF will become availbale for purchase on its own after the hardcopies have been delivered to the people who Kickstarted/preordered the hardcover book.

That should be soon! Like, before-the-end-of-the-month soon.

Cool! Can't wait!

Alzirus: I bow to your collection.

My wife probably would file for divorce if I ever let my collection approach yours in size!

Well, it helps to be able to keep it all in one bookshelf-laden room (though I'm really pushing capacity now!).

Why, right here!

My family would be pretty mad if i even get a physical collection! Much more a whole room! XD They really dislike my gaming "addiction" as it is.

It's a hard world we gamers live in, especially now that there is a new breed of humans called "millennials". Lol

Thanks Alzrius! Hope it comes in PDF form!

It's been a little while for me, but as I recall the background traits in Shackled City were feats, so you could format them like 5e feats and give one to every player for free.

However, Paizo later created traits which players got for free. Traits are basically the Pathfinder version of what 5e would call Backgrounds.

Backgrounds usually provide proficiency in a couple of skills or tools, and a bit of starting equipment. So you could just format them in the form of Backgrounds.

Wow! Backgrounds, eh? Had not thought of that.

But how would you model the Demonscarred trait, where your heritage tricks all magical effects (good and bad) to consider you to be evil? In 5e detect/dispel/protect from X does not detect alignment, but type (ie. aberration, celestial, elemental, fiend, etc.) Putting the PC in question at a HUGE disadvantage if they were to detect as fiend. There's a balance reason why all the PHB races are considered Humanoid, including Elves which most would normally consider Fey.

Also would you make the backgrounds more powerful to account for drawbacks, just drop the drawbacks, or turn them into roleplaying quirks?

By the way, thanks for answering DM_aka_Dudemeister! I had all but given up on anyone replying. XD

I seriously wish i had room for a physical collection. *SIGH* Would be so handy!

That sounds awesome Haladir! Where can i find this Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder?

That's kinda like asking "What order would you rate your children." And it's also a question I can't answer without saying which one is my least favorite, and there's no way for everyone who worked hard on that one to not feel insulted if I reveal that, so there's no way I can answer this question without causing drama. Sorry.

A very reasonable answer indeed James! You are correct about insulting the other team members.

So i have a group of video/computer RPG gamers that are only interested in killing, looting and an epic storyline with a variety of locations and monsters. They instantly lose interest the moment there is any roleplaying or "skill challenges".
So what are the top three APs with a reputation for being hack-'n'-slash?

P.S. Those in Dungeon are also up for consideration.

Many thanks!

Will we ever get Second Darkness: Anniversary Edition, if not, at least a Compiled Errata document? Even an unoffial document by one of the designers?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Have you seen the Baby Bestiaries by Metal Weave Games?

P.S. They are not mine nor am i trying to promote them in any way.

Well... once you mentioned the product having to be physical, i realized what a sad little collection i have, with everything going digital and all...
Let's see i have the D&D 4e Rules Compendium that was gifted to me by my dear old DM that introduced me to the awesome world of Tabletop RPGs (somehow knew i would love DMing), and the 5e Starter Set gifted to me also (by someone else). And...well, that's it, really. Pathetic, eh?
However, digital items is a whole nother story. >:D

So recently i decided i wanted to run the SCAP (Shackled City Adventure Path) using the 5th Edition rules.
No problem I thought, monsters are all there and those that aren't are easily converted, I have over 200 NPC stat blocks from various sources, and encounter building ain't too much different from the days of 3.5e.

Well, I have run into my first speed bump. You see, i want to add the Local Hero traits that are listed for the PCs, but have found that many add a +/- 1-2 bonus to certain abilities... I was stumped (kind of), because 5E works on the system of the proficiency bonus and Advantage/Disadvantage, not bonuses.
So I turn to my fellow GMs for help and to see what you think.

I have three options I am considering:
1. Change all bonuses to Advantage and all penalties to Disadvantage.
2. Bonuses/penalties of 2 become a bonus/penalty equal to half the character's proficiency bonus.
So they would start with +/-1 for a third of the campaign, +/-2 for another third, then go up to +/-3 for the last third. Thus balancing out to a +/-2 throughout the game.
3. Just leave them as is, and just change the obviously different stuff (ie. Skills, effects, etc.)

I am thinking a combination of the three will be best, but I would like some imput from others.

P.S. I may post my notes on conversion later if any one is interested.
